Agreed! His voice is an intervention in itself. I'd love to hear him read any of the Murray Stein volumes on Jung. This said, the combined voices/perspectives of Lisa, Deb and Joseph makes for PERFECT listening! 🙏

Oh, wow. Joe just illustrated that perfectly- "Remorse is a self-regulating process and we can have some confidence in that part of ourselves that punishes the ego by feeling badly about what's been done, so we may not necessarily need to societally punish someone because the correction is going inside their own hearts."

This is my first viewing of your revised Jungian Life. You have breathed new life into your collective endeavor: I'm happy for you and all of us. Congratulations As I listened to this young woman's dream, I thought to myself that this dream seems to be from the collective unconscious, not a dream from her daily life, as are most dreams. Therefore, I tend to agree that the infant is an expression of the animus/anima challenge that we all face on our path to individuation. I found this entire episode profoundly revealing in many ways. It's amazing that we seem to always find feelings not yet examined as new thinking strikes some ignored, or protected, chord within us.

Guilt is neutral ground. Remorse is that first tilt into something ameliorating ;how can I change, do better, learn, recompense. Being ashamed/shamed is tilting towards a potential damaging path; whether hiding, denying, or some sort of self flagellation- or projection which can harm others. It’s very difficult to find constructive ground in shame. Remorse is a lovely workable human experience.

I'm wholeheartedly welcoming this new format of the podcast. It's been moving to see Lisa, Deb and Joseph. It added another dimension to my experience. I notice the slight changes in branding and I appreciate the content being as engaging as always. The topic was difficult to get my way through - as guilt and shame are often shadow materials - but there are many good points I can go back to in the conversation. Thank you.

I've had a similar vision as the dreamer and to the person who sent that dream in, if you get to read this comment, for me the vision had to do with the Goddess Sophia and wisdom. The divine child is the wisdom of the body. For me this meant to start listening to my body, my feelings, sensations, emotions. The divine child representing wisdom is the union of the intelligences of the mind and the body.

When Lisa told the story of accidentally getting the wall dirty and how that brought up guilt for her what came up for me was "I made mom unhappy!" Is "making mom unhappy" another way we come to realize the archetype of the spoiling of something pristine? And I'm wondering what happens when the parent, instead of saying, "Oh, that will come right off. No need to worry." says something like, "Now look what you did!" Can that cause the guilt to remain and recur such that a child can learn to fear "making mom unhappy" for a long time? Maybe even forever if the realization of this process is not made? Excellent discussion, as always. Thanks to all of you for these videos!

Rather than guilt and remorse being related, I would posit that shame and remorse are related and more or less the same thing-that remorse is how one measures the intensity of shame or that the two are, at the very least, siblings. It's like shame is the cut, and remorse is the blood that comes from it. I say this because one can be guilty and feel nothing from it, but the feeling of guilt is simply knowing that you did something that goes against your values or moral system. The feeling of guilt brings with it a need for punishment or atonement, for the scales to be balanced, whereas shame does not. Shame is more the sense that you being judged by some sort of ideal and are falling short of living up to it.

It's not that people don't want there to be regulations or rules, it's that they want those making them to be held to account and given the same justice as everyone else when they break them. When governments are living on the sea of corruption, they pick and choose which boats may float or where they may travel to, all while allowing free passage to their own or to any that increase their boyancy. How do you like that metaphor?

I can' t believe that I am the only one commenting here, seeing videos about for example the us government secretly possessing alien spacecrafts receiving thousands of comments. About your appearance, you all look more loveable than I got from your voices, even Debrah. I am now motivated to watch the video on the pc, with the benefit that I listen more attentively, and when I lose track, it is easy to go back. About the statement of Jung that life itself is guilt, I couldn't help thinking about porn actresses. (lol) In a perfect universe people would be responsible for their own mishap, but we can see that reality is never so straightforward. There is just the simple fact that there is not only an inner world, but also an outer world. I suppose that there are jungian adherents who think like this, but i think we should be careful, as it easily can lead to gaslighting, keeping masses of people subjugated like in the indian caste system, being insensisitive to the fate of the poor parts of the world (or society) by example through climate change, giving free reign to people with asocial disorder etc. Possibly you didn't mean it like this, however, I think it is useful to first consider our own role in the unpleasant event, because indeed everyone tends to point the finger outwards. It was again interesting, learnsome and a pleasure to listen to you.

Hi. I am so glad that I received the notification for this. I'm about to set things up so that I can listen to this while I do some creative work. The painting or drawing that was part of the thumbnail was so striking to me, that I wanted to comment on it before I listened. Where is the painting from? Was it done by one of the three of you? I have to do a reading on it. It's so much fun! At least for me, the painting or drawing that was used for the thumbnail for this video was so evocative. Or maybe I mean that it resonated for me. I "read" the painting, which reminds me of medieval paintings by the way, as the Victim, the Perpetrator, and the Not So Innocent Bystanders. I see this aggressive act as particularly vicious. It was done with with a sickle, which harkens to the images of Death with the Scythe (?). That image of Death has come up in depictions over time, so there is something Timeless and Universal about this act of aggression. The intention of the Perpetrator was perhaps to mortally wound the Victim. The Perpetrator used The Hook because it will make a horrible wound, that even if it is not deadly, will be supremely painful; have a tendency to become infected because it is deep; and it will, even in the best of circumstances, take a long time to heal and scar badly. The Bystanders are types of people, but I'm not sure if they're archetypes. One of them, the female looking one, or feminine one with the head tilted, is the Make Nice Person, who pretends they don't see, or that what they see is not happening. That person doesn't want to rock the boat. That person wants to keep everyone feeling comfortable by not acknowledging what's in front of their face. The Make Nice person takes responsibility for what is not theirs, everyone else's feelings and reactions. The Make Nice person refuses to take responsibility for what is theirs. They are unable or unwilling to admit they have a complicated set of mixed feelings. They feel anger towards the victim, and themselves. They are afraid of becoming victimized, but they also see the victim as enviable for different reasons. They are unable or unwilling to risk losing social standing lest the Perpetrator, who is perceived as the most powerful, turn their attention towards them. These emotions are happening simultaneously, and it's just too hard to parse them out. The person in the back, who looks very childlike, is afraid of being victimized, so they're hiding. I also see them as possibly afraid of being the perpetrator as well so they're hiding from themselves too. The Lookie Lou to the right of the childlike person hiding is avidly curious. He(?) won't/can't hurt the Victim directly, but he's fine with harming by proxy, and might even be a little turned on by the aggression. The person in front is the most...honest (?) in his reaction. He has literally turned away from the Victim, and is showing him his back. The red around the shoulders to me could represent aggression, or anger of his own. It's interesting that it sits shawl- like around his shoulders. So this is something that he carries. He hides, or reveals it at will. His facial expression says that he likes what is happening to the victim. Emotionally he looks.. the words that come to mind are "I'm glad he's being hurt. He deserved it." I don't get any particularly sexual anything from his facial expression, but it could be there too. Of course this says as much, if not more about me than it does about the painting. Still this was totally fun, and a great way to start the day! Luv your new look. I've enjoyed listening, so I will probably still be doing more of that than watching. Still, I'm glad things are going well for your channel. This is really important content.

Thanks for the video. One suggestion for future videos. The way you all three speak, is devoid of any emotions. It is like describing slowly smoothly even if what is described is a fatal accident. If one fathoms amount of suffering individual goes through because of guilt and mostly because of belief system based on religion doctrines, then one cannot speak this coolly. My sincere request is infuse some feeling and emotion into the heavyweight topics being discussed. If possible.

shame is used a corrective behavior and isn't that what life is about correcting our behavior and improving our persons as we get older is corrective so they speak. However guilt being the way you find your way to God or in God is necessary for you to have your awakening. Once you've been saved and know that you're a child of God then there's no use for guilt. Believe Joyce Meyers by saying , "it's useless doubts God and as well as in other people." like you can be concerned about somebody but don't worry about them. You can shame somebody to correct their behavior when they're younger so people don't get hurt unnecessarily and what not but guilty people into things is way too common and abused and so many ways that are thrown out altogether the concept of being the action when laid upon me

I know this is old, but then again, so am I. (63). If anyone would ever hear ĥow I've çome to these things as a ĺifelong pursuit that has included Jung (started this area with Freud Jung had too many new vocabulary, Adler just passed me off, and I was back yo Jung). You can imagine where that has lead. My documted history can easily be traced to 1969. The Damm was leaking before that right? Anyhow, Ive carried on, grown, evolved - whatever. I've been the "pt." , kid, or other wise has been one who especially the psychiatric community has been. I dunno. Thing is... I'm so freaking out there, with zero people to relate, connect? Even how I have come to this juncture at last check had one " living " vicariously
