Desolation Point is a region were quiet familiar with. So kicking off a run here is always welcome! The Long Dark Gods must have felt bad after our last attempt, because the RNG we have today is insane. I hope you enjoy the experience, because this is by far my favorite attempt to date!

You left the lighthouse WITHOUT YOUR SHOES ON! LOL

Biggest thing I've learned after my many Interloper deaths so far. NEVER. EVER. EVER. Try to sleep outside if you do not have a fire going, and even then only 2 hours at most, and MAKE SURE THE FIRE IS NEGATING THE COLD COMPLETELY! I almost died in my latest run by not paying attention to that. It is NEVER warm enough outside at night without decent clothing, even in a warm cave, without fire going!

I really thought the light house would be warm enough… I do think my clothes were wet and so hyperthermia risk was sapping my condition. But this is how the game teaches. You die and you learn from it. I am much less stingy with my fire starting in my latest run 😂😂😂.

1:27:49 I don't understand what happened either unless you had on some frozen clothing and got frostbite after falling asleep. That instantly knocks off 10% and you were at 5% when you went to sleep.

I really think my clothes were wet and they sap condition until they're dry. With how low my condition was, it was RIP before they dried out. In hindsight I should have warmed up by the fire before sleeping. Shame, because it was a great start!
@Pest789
@Pest789 3 месяца назад
Either way, it wouldn't have killed you unless you were already almost dead. The key to survival in interloper is to warm up and avoid unnecessary condition loss. If that left gauge goes red, start figuring out where and how you can warm up right away. Don't ignore it.

@@Pest789 100%. I lost sight of how much condition I had lost initially. After that it was trying to course correct. We’re still learning the mechanics. 😂. I do agree though I need to prioritize my warmth far more than I have been.

You were freezing when you went to sleep. The one arrow uptick went to one arrow downtick when you put out the torch. you were too cold and died. The heartbeat sound started before you actually started to sleep. So yeah, 100% died from temp. Cold will kill you fast in 'loper :) great start!

@renee2292 thanks! I heard the heartbeat too! But I thought maybe we could reverse my demise. 😂 it was such a great start to a run, taken away too soon. I appreciate you watching!!

You mentioned below about learning via death and that is so true. On interloper I would last five days then ten. Eventually60 days was my ceiling. Now there's no limit. The key was learning and here is my opinion to master it. Map knowledge, coal, and moving from a to b. Early game , that is first hundred days, stock up two bases. collect sticks, coal, Kill a bear, Deer, moose etc. harvest them and then leave zone. Repeat at other base. repeat. Eventually you will have abundance of food, sticks, coal and then you're set. Now explore zones carefree, return to bases to restock etc. Now concerning players even dark is the greatest long dark player by miles. His current misery run is over 700 days. Watch his videos, its a masterclass.

Thanks for watching! The channel is Even dark? I will definitely check them out. I’ve been watching ZaK and Survivor Mike and learning by trial and error lol. I absolutely agree. My latest run I’ve been doing a lot of what you said. Moving constantly early, gathering what I can and we’re about to forge. I definitely took some time to learn the maps better too. I Love this game! Hope you enjoy the video and thank you again for checking out my Channel and taking the time to chat with me!

Why did you run outside light house without putting on your shoes? Also ran around inside freezing but instead of warming up wasted time checking for loot. Ive never seen your channel, was this your 1st playthrough?

What a ride that was. There's a forge in the region, so you won't find a hammer. Sometimes you can find one in Broken Railroad, but it's rare. You should have stayed in the Riken and kept the forge fire going where the air in the bed area was a nice 80 degrees. Even if it burnt through lots of coal, curing hypothermia ASAP should always become your top goal. In the beginning you're subjected to the worst of the cold fluctuations. The bed gave 9 degrees bonus heat but I've been in that same bed and the air temp was 20. Lack of good warm clothing, clothing may have been wet, no fire to sustain a warm air temp all contributed to hypothermia getting you while you were sleeping. Rough way to go. Interloper is fucking brutal!!!! At least you know next time, stay with the fire and keep it going when you're hypothrmic. Learning is usually involved with death in this difficulty mode. Whether and the cold are the ever present constant threats with loper. Wolves, bears and moose are secondary. The cold will get you faster. Great movements around the regions areas though. I thought how you choose to move about and go through things was pretty efficient and well thought out. Even though you double checked things, the probably still something you've missed. I know, because I'm still finding things in regions and areas that I've been through 4 or 5 times. The devs are really good at being sneaky and hiding things really well. Great attempt!!! With how well this one went, if you keep thinking and learning the loper weather you'll be hitting 100 days in no time at all!!! Cheers!!! You got this!

Right! I went to sleep thinking I had stared death in the face, only to find out I blinked. The game is so brutal! It was a ton of fun though. I agree the Riken after that last fire would have been a better move. I thought the lighthouse kept its heat better than it actually does, so at the time it felt like the right move. I 100% think my clothes were wet and that’s what ultimately did me in. The death was pretty immediate and I feel like I would have restored some condition before dying had it just been a temp drop in the lighthouse itself. I agree I think I was fairly efficient with my choices, but ultimately I need to keep my condition up. Which is a challenge for sure! Thanks for watching!!

@@InfaMoose1107 It's day one of interloper, if you don't tank condition loss from cold or hunger you're not playing interloper 😂😂😂. Wet clothes with hypothermia definitely got you. I've rewatched the last few minutes a few times to see what could have been done differently but really all I can think of is staying near a big fire for the 24 hours needed to recover some condition and reset the hypothermia. Yeah, it sucks, and you'll burn through the calories you have, but it's ultimately better than freezing. The game is so damn brutal. I love it. I love the fact that not anyone can just pick up the game and be instantly good at it. You can't just decide to play the hardest difficulty without extraneous punishment. It really does come down to experimenting and dying and lots of play time to really get the game down. I've got over 1500 hours in the game and there's still so many situations where I pause the game and think about what I need to do next to prevent death. I think you'd have died in the Riken without a fire as well. The beds are right above the furnace and unless you were warming up in there without the fire, you'd still have passed in your sleep. But with that fire going in the forge the sleeping areas are heated. I don't know if the lighthouse is that way. I'm always making my base at the forge. I love the long format this video had. Even if it took me a few watch sessions to get through the whole video. Unless you get a really crap spawn, your next run is going to be epic!!!!!
@InfaMoose1107
@InfaMoose1107 3 месяца назад
@fatmarlin4674 I agree I probably would have died in the Riken. I know in real time I did not even want attempt to sleep there. But that’s part of the fun. Sometimes we roll the dice and we get snake eyes. I absolutely have learned that I need to be less stingy with my fire starting. The next run is underway and I am definitely utilizing fire and teas a lot more. Thank you for the feedback on the longer videos. You’ve been a long time viewer and I appreciate you sticking through all the experimentation! I’m inclined to agree with you the longer format is better at least for games like the long dark. I just need to hone in my skills for talking for 2 hour straight 😂

@@InfaMoose1107 I'm pretty stingy with my matches lol. I've got about 100 on me and dozens left at each of my bases. I do the same things with bows and arrows. I leave full condition bows and 10 arrows at least in every region base, I've had the time to get set up like though. I also walk around with 2 bows with a half hour of crafting left on each just in case, they have zero weight when being crafted. But either way, sometimes I'll wait days in a base until I can light a fire to warm tea and grab torches with the mag lens because I'm stingy. I'm also paranoid in game and act like I'm being stalked by a wolf with a sound glitch, even though I've never had a wolf be silent before. I've also noticed recently that blizzards will turn to heavy snow and then go back to blizzard. Like the games trying to trick me into going out only to freeze me. Hypothermia in game is such a quick killer. It takes your condition so fast and even zaps your tiredness in game. But really the only way to understand the deadly nature of it in game is to experience it in game. Teas and coffee are great for preventing it, but sometimes you just gotta find a cave and start up a fire to fully heat yourself back up. I tear through my birch bark just causes it's renewable. Even though I'm fully geared, battling hypothermia is no joke in game. I really enjoyed it. I get invested in what's happening and just want to find out where you end up. Even though it took 4 different watch sessions to make it through the whole video cause life got in the way, I knew that I could just come back when I had a few moments. Before I realized you had hypothermia I figured the video was going to end with you getting out of the region. Experiment all you want dude. You keep things interesting. The game is open, if you don't give yourself the quest no one will. It's entirely up to you and your own imagination to keep the game fun for yourself. Use it to lose it was great. Weight management is important in the game and you really stretched it. Forced yourself to decide what you really needed and what you didn't when you found something. Took the critical thinking aspect to a completely different level. How ever the next run is going, I hope the game doesn't kill you quickly. But it happens to everyone. I've been lost in a blizzard several times, couldn't find shelter and froze next to a blown out fire against some rocks, on Voyager. Death happens to the best and worst of us. Survival is the exception. The game wants you dead.

All of the above is what makes The Long Dark a unique game in the survival genre. The cold is the biggest threat, however its not the only threat. I wrote this game off so long ago, because I didn't get it. But once it clicks its immensely addicting. I always try to find ways to keep it interesting, the whole point is to entertain and have some fun. I would love to do another use it to lose it run and as much as I'm still figuring out Loper, I'm already looking forward to one day attempting Nogoa. Sounds like they announced the next update dropping next week. I'm hoping we can add the Mountain lion to our current runs and looking forward to what odd things I can do with the misery mode & the respawn features.

Hello, I'm new here, but I like your way of playing, I'm only like 25 mins in and I'm enjoying the video. I love that it's 1h 30 mins, best for when I'm studying to put up in the background. For tips for interloper I would recommend checking out Zaknafein's RU-vid channel, he does guides and so on and he is very good and he helped me a lot for someone who plays interloper difficulty just without the wildlife, like a previous commentor said the weather kills you before the wildlife does, but I still don't like the wolf's stalking me But anyways, as I said, really enjoying your content! Thank you for the effort you put into it, and keep it up, TLD is a rough game but it's amazing in so many ways. (sorry my english sounds bad, not my first language)

Your English is great! I'm glad that you are enjoying my video, I have toyed around a lot with the length of content and agree the 1h 30 feels right. Its long enough to actually accomplish something, especially in The Long Dark where it progress can be slow but its also not, too long. I do watch Zak on occasion, he is very informative. but even still, the game is a challenge!! You have to play how you like, its the beauty of playing a sandbox game, you can turn the animals off or on, change the loot. The game is yours to make what you want of it! I really appreciate your feed back, and I'm glad you are enjoying my content. I hope to continue to see you around!

@@InfaMoose1107 yeah the longer usually the better😂, and yess that is why I love this game so much, it's unique and you can customize it exactly how you want it, and if you play with mods whether they are huge mods that change gameplay or just minor tweaks it adds flavor. It's just an amazing game. You will definitely see my around your long dark content!!

1:27:50 - Death is obvious: Feel like: - 37ºF Bed warmth bonus: 9ºF You can sleep with negative temperature below the bed warmth bonus, but you have to be full warm before sleep - you are already freezing (1:27:22). And in this cases need sleep in small increments, e.g. 2 hours, in that way you are able to avoid freezing to death.
