Man, I can only imagine your struggle, since every other State allows it, but not every State even allows you to access what just a few years ago was crown land or reserves. Up here everything that was State land is now national Park ( No prospecting. ) or it's freehold land and available for a selection of society.

Been travelling Australia permanently for 3 years and nothing makes my blood boil like national parks. I try and avoid them as much as possible. They keep locking up more and more of the country and instead of managing it and looking after it they spend their budget on parking meters and ridiculous lookout platforms. It’s definitely not just Tassie. Makes me so sad and frustrated.

This is the problem when there is no check against inefficiency. When you're funded by the taxpayer - someone else's money, there's no incentive to be cautious or measured. There's no customer base to answer to that will stop funding you if you fail to deliver, because the taxpayer has no say in the matter. And as the years go by, government has only expanded, it is inevitable that more and more people will be directly affected at some point, only then will they realise what a crippling issue this is.

I grew up in a national park in a region on the Hawkesbury north of Sydney my direct ancestors were the first Europeans to settle and in a community of only nine houses. Now instead of our small fibro Fishermans huts there are 300 mansions mostly Chinese owned worth five, even ten million and I'm in Queensland because I got priced out of my own area like all the other local families. Careful, Tassy. This is a well beaten path. What you're doing is bigger than you Rob. Keep on keeping on. Keep the bastards honest. We have visited Tassie 15 times and totally agree that Parks and Wildlife have ruined any future thoughts we had of visiting them again. We visited Cradle Mountain in July this year and were horrified at the changes. The big monstrosity of a building that has been built and now blocks the beautiful view of Dove Lake that we have many photos of from the past. Not to mention the destruction of plants that has happened to make way for that building at Dove Lake. We will now visit all the out of the way places like Great Western Tiers, Arthur River, in fact we love the west coast, especially Corrina. Thanks to your inspiration we have visited many of the ghosts towns you have featured in your outstanding videos. Please keep doing what you do, we support you, and admire your absolute respect and passion for Tasmania’s nature and history.

Totally agree! I was an outdoor education instructor for 22 years, teaching people minimal impact, bushcraft skills, etc etc. And I've seen our National Parks of wild beauty, that were once free, turned into expensive urban parklands without any consultation with the public. Paying for licences, permits, etc, just to enter and/or take videos, photos or undertake activities is a massive scam by our governments. We own the National Parks. Not our governments! We already pay taxes to manage these places! You've raised some very serious issues about another form of government corruption.

Hi Rob, I hear your frustration, and have been stung by this one too. The hypocrisy and ignorance is just ridiculous particularly the idea that doing landscape photography and RU-vid video's is some sort of cash cow. We do it because we love these places and want to share this love with others. The amount of effort in comparison to the financial reward is just pitiful and as you say doesn't even cover petrol costs. If they got their heads out of there asses they'd realise that they are getting free promotion from people who absolutely love these areas and bend over backwards to help preserve them and look after them. Instead they are tying us up in red tape and fines for literally nothing (and in your case for carefully complying with their own instructions). Parks Victoria initially wanted to charge $250 a year for a landscape photographers permit but presumably no-one paid it, so in a pragmatic gesture they made it free but when I went to sign up one of the conditions were that you weren't allowed off track and as my particular interest is finding off-track waterfalls there was no way I was going to do that, so I'm still unregistered despite the fact that Parks Vic have sold over a thousand of my various books. And don't get me started on drones. Thanks for shining a light on this. Trav

And agree, that if you live in the State of Tasmania , then access to all National Parks and World Heritage Areas SHOULD be Free!! How about the Tasmanian Government get back to basics and focus on things like ALL the rubbish lying around the roadsides etc (for a start)- as it is prolific, a horrible blight on this beautiful environment and really represents a lack of care or respect for the beautiful State of Tasmania!!

Here in WA you have to pay entry for all national parks. You can buy an “all parks pass for a year” card thing for I think $120 - $150 (don’t quote me check for yourself on their web site). Here in WA - it used to be free to enter National Parks, because the funds to manage the parks were generated from logging royalties, but since the Government went all lunatic lefty woke on us and banned all native forests logging and sold off all their pine plantations - there are no more logging royalties. In order to keep their jobs these parks people have to find “other revenue sources”. Hence Nat Park Entry Fees & Commercial Filming fees etc. Just about all 6 states now have Nat Parks Drone Filming (for commercial gain) licensing & fees, which just about every content creator totally ignores & never pays). 🙄 Over here the Nat Parks got so desperate for cash, they created a “Marine National Park” out of the Walpole Estuary / Inlet, solely so that they could force the company that rents out houseboats to holiday makers / tourist, to have to pay daily Nat Parks fees on a “profit sharing” arrangement”. It’s “Our Water” now & you the tourism business that’s been here for decades operating successfully - now have to pay us to use our water for your houseboats. There were no “marine values” that needed protection of Marine Park Status” it was a pure money grab by Nat Parks to keep their jobs. This will come to Tassie soon enough Rob & it will really bite like it has now here, when they ban old growth logging in Tassie. The sad thing is, most likely yourself & Levi would cheer on a ban on logging, then bitch & moan when you have to pay to maintain these public lands. You can’t have your Kate & Edith too! 😜😂 When there’s no logging theirs no income to pay for parks, to keep entry free, so Nat Parks Tassie, can see the writing on the wall & are moving to secure their future income streams, so they can keep their jobs & pay their salaries. I believe it’s called “the user pays principle”. Better get used to it - there will be a lot more coming when the mung bean eating tree hugging flower power greens & their ilk get logging banned, because if you listened to them, forests are finite resources like minerals that cannot be sustainably managed in perpetuity, if you believed them, wood doesn’t grow on trees. 🙄👎 Maybe you & Levi need to choose which side you want to be on or develop longer arms & shorter pockets, and get used to paying your own way in future - because there won’t be a logging industry to do that for you. Choose wisely is my advice.

My Family and I just visited, and have lived in Tasmania (Mostly on the west coast). We were told we needed a pass to visit Hogarth falls in Struan by the rather rude sales person (at best) at Cradle. There is no way any one pays to walk up a simple track at Hogarth falls. She then told me I clearly hadn't visited the area very much....( I have walked the overland twice in winter, black bluff and the Western Arthurs). I love your videos Rob and you are one of the best advocates for Tassie tourism I have seen in a long time. You should be given an award and a State grant for the the good work you do! Keep up the fight and if you need supporters I'm here for you. Just happens my great great grandfather was the Jaeger that Jaeger bay was named after in Ida Bay. I love Tasmania with all my heart. Once upon a time, our state was free, you could go anywhere and it was wonderful. Gosh going to Lake St. Claire and Cradle Mountain cost nothing until someone thought, gee we can make money from this and in walks Tourism. There have been so many changes regarding P&Wildlife and yes, some of it good like making some walking tracks and hut upgrades because years ago very little existed. Now days most people cannot afford their prices to enter such places. I totally agree with you Rob, there are so many other fantastic places to see which cost nothing, and many even outshine the typical sites, that's for sure. You have support from many as well as myself and hopefully in the near future, everything re licences and changes will come through for you, Levi and others. Sadly Rob this happens all around Australia. Here in W.A. it is claimed by some that 49% of the State is either Aboriginal Reserve, Granted or Pending Native Title Areas, National Parks, State Nature Reserves or Conservation Reserves. Over 80% of the State is held under Mining Tenements & Prospecting Areas. To even go metal detecting here (except for designated "Crown Land") you have to get a 42E permit from the mines Dept at a cost of $110 approx for each area you wish to go metal detecting on. Many of these tenements are not being worked & are nowhere near any known goldfields, past or present.

100 % true. A typical power overdose by petty beaurocrats. Victoria is the same, maybe to a lesser extent. Now it is all about "commercial partnerships" where million dollar tourism industries are wooed to provide tours and infrastructure to "enhance the visitor experience" at a price. Privately owned and operated huts on popular walks, gourmet glamping bushwalks, fully catered meals, all encouraged and supported by Parks services, supposedly for the good of the public who actually own the parks, and now cannot afford to use them. P:S What rhymes with beaurocracy ? Hypocrisy.

Rob, these “theme parks” are opening up everywhere now. NSW NPWS is currently taking feed back submissions on a draft plan of management for the Dorrigo- Bindarri & Dorrigo Escarpment Great Walk master plans. This whole project is estimated to cost $56.4million. I said in my submission, “this is going to be another ‘Cradle Mountain / Overland Track’. NPWS are not a benevolent organisation. The are going to want a ‘return on investment’ for sure”. And what is happening in Tassie will be NSWs lead, no doubt there. Thank you again for showcasing Tassie as it should be.

As for the Minister, I greatly doubt that he knows half of what goes on in his offices. It has been a catch cry for more years than I care to remember, that they do not have the funds to do the work they are required to do. This I doubt as I see the multi million $ put into "paying tracks." etc. The only way I see people, groups, individuals etc. getting on with them is "to pee in their pockets". Ask any council in the state, what their relationship is with PW ? Pretty negative in most cases.. Keep up your work, from one who once was young and radical too.
