I worked as a civilian for many years back in the days and people use to say the Navy don't do much but as you can see they do a lot to help. Bless them all. And bless the old civi life which has been and gone.

I didn't expect a video on the Navy to start with a Dr Seuss quote of all things lol, but otherwise great video.

I used that quote because the ship's commander had a copy of that book in his cabin, that his family had given to him. :)

I wonder if the ghosts gather on the hills and look on the commemorations. And, being a warship do they need official permission to dock in a foreign port? I bet they only found a small part of the drugs.

Lets play Devils advocate... What right does any Navy have to board vessels on the high sea ? Heroin is a legal product in many places, (including the USA if its a tax paid and approved pharmaceutical product) is this just part of the USAs unjust, and undeclared war on third world countries ? Why does the NZ Navy need a US serviceman to 'test and approve' what they do ? I am so proud of the brave men and women of our military. But I am so ashamed that we just seem to be a tiny we arm of US imperialist interests. NZ should have a proud, independent, and effective defence force. It should never be a vassal for US interests, and if that means we need to become neutral and spend more on defence, then we should do it.
@AotearoaScienceAgency
@AotearoaScienceAgency 3 года назад
You raise some really good points. This particular aspect of the war on drugs (certainly an arguable point in itself) isn't just a US thing, it's NATO-led from what I understand, so much bigger than that. The heroin trade funds terrorism in the Middle East, which is also not an entirely black-and-white issue. There is certainly an irony in demonisation of the heroin trade while prescription opioid abuse is at epidemic rates in the US, to the extent that it has led to the first recorded decrease in the average lifespan in that country in recent years.

@damianchristie
@damianchristie 3 года назад
That route is a very popular route for heroin trafficking and NZ is part of an international defence force that stops the heroin trade in that area, BEFORE it gets to our country. Hope this helps explain :)
