Nice project! One thing though, when I look at those bearings you are using on that heavy door I am getting flashbacks. I hope those set screws are secured well on that shaft and you used a support spacer in the bottom. That door is pretty heavy, if it ever were to start creeping down, it could be a pain in the butt to fix and potential trap hazard.
I remember when you were so happy with the wooden background wall in the bedroom studio. I think you and your dad made that? Man... I think he'd be so proud of how far you and GN have come. 💙
Thank you. I made that shortly after he passed away - it was my first big step to committing to GN. I was so excited about that wall. Thanks for reminding me of that.
Lmao. Even putting the amount of money on the thumbnail to scam these clown viewers, the views are still so puny. That's this clown with long hair who needs to make videos about his father Linus.@@GamersNexus
I specialize in Acoustic and Seismic systems for commercial fitouts, and I have to say that Dave really knows his craft and is really passionate about it! Our company owns a chamber in New Zealand, and I can attest to this one being an incredibly high-end build. I particularly appreciate the fact that Steve and the GN team stand by a high standard of ethics and are willing to invest in giving us consumers the most accurate and informative information they can. I have really noticed this in the content I have watched from these guys over the many years and you can see that level of detail is top-notch even if you only had this video to judge by.
Big thanks to Dave for this lmao, not everyone is happy to stand infront of a camera and do a full breakdown like this. He did amazing at explaining advanced parts of the chamber in such a way even my smoothbrain could understand.
An in-depth interview would be really great. Like a follow up to the Logitech Video. I also watched the LTT video and somehow I get this feeling that he is that kind of guy who builds these things more on an empirical basis. No offense, but the explanations are rather shallow and some things are off. Like on one hand you go the extra mile to install the spring dampeners beneath the room, but on the other hand you have those weird wedges that just look like a complete upsell. The metal casing already lowers the upper frequency cut-off, but they also don't look the size for lower frequencies. Those are like 1.5 ft? I can see a 300 hz lower cut-off, but 150 hz in a scientific environment sounds unreasonable. Also I hope he doesn't mean his own absorbers have full transparency up to 10khz, because that would make them kinda unusable. (The reason there were so many studies on porous absobers was because you can't sell non-covered ones. They look ugly as hell. Many acoustic researchers were also architecture / music guys and so the interior of an opera house also needed to look the part.) Don't get me wrong, it doesn't have to be perfect. Afterall it's for consumer electronics. But I'm getting mixed messages here which would normally be a red flag. Or the Hemi- / Semi-anechoic chamber thing. You don't choose it to represent a real environment, you do because it's cheaper and a car won't break the floor. You can't represent a real environment, because it would have to be standardized. But if you go there you'd also have to cover the light bulb, and the microphone stand (The stand. It's such a terrible task, especially on a 3D microphone array, fml). I'm sorry, I don't mean to bash him in any kind of way and I'm sure GN will do some measurments to verify everything, but there are just so many small things and he starts a topic, but doesn't follow up. It irks a bit.
@@dakai4992 They are around 2ft wedges, so you're already super wrong. They're 150hz cutoff. I don't know why you're guessing and then writing all this based on a guess when we already said we had a third-party validate it and proved it to be 150hz cutoff. Also, the metal wedges are good because they aren't CANCEROUS like a lot of the foam wedges (with spray coating fire retardant) that decompose over a period of 7 years, whereas ours last forever.
Reminder: This is a RU-vid channel. This is absolutely incredible. Even TechTV didn't come close to the work GN does back in the day. I am completely in awe. Amazing build. Keep up the incredible work!
The one thing i love about steve is he really helps his guests shine and speak to their skills through questioning. Interview 101 i guess but its a skill alot of people fail at.
Holy crap. I can’t believe you’ve done that. I work at a place with a few hemi-anechoic chambers, and they are insanely complex and expensive to get right. I hope yours works well for you!
Steve lives in a basement and survives on bread and water to save money for projects like these, just so he can tell us which $7 case fan is slightly quieter. He truly is Tech Jesus.
I can't tell if they were throwing shade at LTT's sound chamber by saying GN is the first ones to do it "right" lol, or maybe they are unaware that LTT has one idk
@@pcmasterracetechgod5660 They've been refusing to aknowledge LTT's existence for a while now, I don't think it's shade, they just pretend LMG doesn't exist. I think Steve has an issue. (Also, technically, LMG doesn't yet have an up and running chamber, they have the EMC chamber.)
@@Galf506 They don't refuse to acknowledge LTT's existence lol he's commented on it numerous times and seemingly throws subtle shade occasionally but ultimately Steve has planned on doing things like this for years and he's not going to just make videos about it for drama/views. Both sides understand there will be competition and the consumers will benefit from both outlets building out their facilities.
I've been viewing your channel for several years now. The level of detail, involvement and fascination of electronics are way beyond what most channels offer. Many thanks for all the reviews that have helped me in my pc related purchases over the years. So rather than buy from the store and pay alot of shipping and taxes to get things shipped overseas i might aswell support you this way. Keep up the great work and thanks again to the whole team.
You know someone really really trusts in their work when they're willing to go on camera and show you step by step the ins and outs of an entire build from start to finish! Great work guys it was really interesting to watch this all come together
i love you how you guys feature so many intelligent, interesting, and passionate people who make stuff possible behind the scenes on your channel. steve is such a good listener, he allows the expert to feel just as excited as he is about the project. Dave's passion glows in this video, its awesome. thank you gamersnexus for being cool through and through. cant wait to see the new testing results in the chamber !
Its amazing what you've accomplished, Steve and GN crew! It really doesn't seem like too long ago i was watching the original office vlog, moving GN out of your house! Inspirational to anyone looking to turn their enthusiasm into a flourishing career.
It still feels like yesterday to me. I used to film in the corner of a bedroom and have to drag the lights and tripods in blocking the door to even shoot a clip. We've grown a lot -- thank you for being there for so much of the journey!
Hahahaha I *still* think of that clip of Steve going through the door of the new (now old!) office and saying "FIRST! FIRST! I WAS FIRST!" whenever I find losers on the internet commenting it (also I forget what video it was from, but also the clip where Steve sarcastically says "HE SAID NUT!" now pops into my head whenever anyone says nut. Thanks Steve!)
@@mjc0961 the moment i hit the sub button is when, at the end of one of the moving vlogs, the guys did a high speed time-lapse of the moving process, overdubbed with AoE2 villager building sounds. I knew this channel was right up my alley :D
I really like how Gamers Nexus channel highlights people in the Tech industry that I never heard of. Example, overclockers like Der Bauer, Bearded Hardware, Buildzoid, etc. I feel that GN always focuses on the consumer towards an informed community…while other tech channels seem to focus on their flashy gimmicks to stand out. Thank you Gamers Nexus! I always appreciate the highly informative content in our tech industry. Btw I miss Snowflake.
"I'll probably skip through this..." - watched the whole thing. Really, really interesting. Looooved how Dave clearly knew his stuff, obviously passionate about his work - this was super fun to watch! Congratulations to GN for taking this huge step too :)
I am almost 40 years old and am not excited easily. But when I heard Mike Chin's name that I used to read back in '04 (trying to tame my P4 prescott) and the anechoic chamber I couldnt help but get a big smile on my face. Imho, when you consult people like Aris and Mike, I know that the result will be the best out there. PS Potential content: There was a study like 10 or more years ago about the effects of various fan grills and how they affect the noise profile of a fan. I would like to see a roundup that would validate different manufacturer's case grill shapes and how they compare (bet that Fractals "logo cut out" will be the worse)
Idk I think we've given them enough money. We as a community could have bought THREE Nvidia gaming GPUs, and with LTTs multi gamer videos SIX people could have enjoyed gaming on them! Think of the loss to the community! /s
For those who made this video into their basis of "GN attacks LMG because they want their lab to be the numero uno" or the other way around...that's not how the community works. The PC building community relies on information based on empirical testing, valid data, and good testing method to make informed decisions. This means that the more members who can provide data, the better the community will be. Obtaining some data may be difficult, if not outright impossible, for any single individual to achieve, purely because of the complexity and cost of the methods involved. So having sources like GN and LTT come up with very expensive, highly intricate labs, even when they serve the same function, is a actually boon. Losing the opportunity to get data from either one is a loss in opportunity to cross reference testing methods and results.
Very impressed by your silencer. It's "easy" to soundproof a room if it's 100% hermetic, but allowing air inside means allowing sound in/out. When building my small vocal booth room, airflow was a huge headache for me. Your team really adressed this wonderfully, very impressive solution!
In 1979 when I worked in the anechoic chamber at Hughes Aircraft it was so quiet I could hear the blood circulating in my head. It is a very strange sensation. I hope you get lots of great use from your chamber.
Your vlogs are always amazing, you ask great questions to lead your expert into a topic and then give them room to speak and just clarify anything at the end. Great interview style and despite knowing nothing about this industry, the passion and expertise shines through.
I enjoyed that someone as knowledgeable and chill as Dave was willing to be on camera and talk us through the build from his professional pov that was awesome.
Hiring a contractor that specializes in constructing these types of things was likely a better call than ordering the parts from an overseas supplier and trying to assemble it themselves (re: LTT and their first attempt at an EMC chamber).
@@rullehLinus kept saying he wanted to be the gold standard for testing products, but then did a bunch of janky stuff. He's an entertainer at this point and seems that he prioritized quantity over quality and forgot why he started LMG to begin with. I believe this happened when he made the "I might retire" video. Everything after that video seems to have started going downhill in terms of quality, not immediately, but slowly.
@@theviralusername Truth. 10 Million dollars spent just to get inaccurate results due to user error. The sad part is the LMG really did spend milions on that lab, which leads me to believe they actually believe their own jargon about being the gold standard. It's time they get serious about having integrity. Without that, they have nothing.
I love these videos, whether from GN, LMG, or, in the future, maybe other reviewers. It is insightful into what it takes to make good products, shows incredible science, engineering, and technology we would rarely get to see otherwise, and shows why it exists and how to use it. This is an incredible step, and I'm excited.
i think in future LMG labs will have the largest resource for data point from the 2020s and GN the most detailed in certain categories... tho I do wonder if YT will ever survive long term... maybe someday we will have a federated video site...
What an incredible job. Dave is clearly very knowledgeable and it shows here. The attention to detail is absurd and the ease at which Dave explains every facet of this build is just fascinating.
I spent 6 months as a helper for the trades when I was 19. I love seeing a master do his thing. There’s a million little tricks that separate them from the second best guy.
Dude the flooring is the exact same in my kitchen lol. Looking good! Glad you guys found a great contractor who's willing to explain everything the way he did. Hes clearly passionate about it and veey knowledgeable
@AhzekAhriman7508 Sure! When I get home in about an hour I'll see what the box says. Only thing is I think it's one of those brands only contractors can get but I'll still let you know
Honestly that work is immaculate, this is probably one of the most interesting episodes I've seen in a while. These guys should do their own RU-vid, it'd be rad to see the different applications for this stuff, learn more about the tech and the people they work with.
As a Sound Engineer myself, it filled me with joy to watch this video and hear Dave explaining the concepts of these rooms. Looking forward to what and how you guys will be using the room. When I first started watching the video, I was questioning what you would possibly use it for as all I can think of would be very high effort. Then again, most things you guys do is very high effort.
When I tell people you guys are the best independent tech media outlet this is the kind of thing I mean. Literally my only problem with you guys is there aren't enough of you to possibly output all of the hardware reviews and information that I'd like out of you- because it's all so good and personally valuable to me. In fact I am *literally* using GN's content *right now,* it is actually on my other screen as I type to help me with research for my next PC build which is deep into the planning stages and which has been *highly* influenced by the work GN has done.
After watching the whole video, it really shows what made me love your channel from the beginning. YOU CARE, you really love what you do and you're good to people. My Dad was a handyman but everything he did, his attention to detail was second to none. He was like you and Dave, my Dad would always do things the right way. Even if it meant we lost some or money, or walked away from a job. This was heart warming, and I never regretted taking your case recommendation for my PC years ago.
I work in special Hazards fire protection. I've been in a lot of unique places, including anechoic chambers over 400,000 cubic feet in volume. I would kill to get to work with someone like Dave. I can't state enough how inspiring it is to see someone who really understands and cares about what they are doing. Unfortunately a lot of our mechanical and electrical work gets subbed out to folks who couldn't care less. It costs a lot of time and money, and never works as well.
Right here is this the quality over quantity that GN strives for. This is way more in-depth and interesting than LTT's chamber, so much attention to detail. I understand why GN was so bothered by LMG's comments on GN's testing.
Congratualtions to two million subscribers. Thank you for your continued effort to raise the bar - and most important in these days, to do it properly. Since some other tech outlets enjoy stumpling upon their own feet these times it's more important than ever to have institutions like Gamers Nexus. Good luck and to many more years of high quality testing.
This bloke seems real happy to talk about his job and explain all the little bits that go into his work that he takes pride in. If not for the entertainment value and the fact we will see some good content from this, it was worth watching just for that. Good job Steve.
I am astonished. I remember you guys talking about building a chamber like this when you first moved in to this building, but I didn't think it would be so soon.
I love this huge step that GN and LTT, as well as other tech-tubers, are taking to help out the community/consumer! After all, the larger corporations like to exaggerate their specs and numbers, and there’s really no other way for us normal people to know any better. Thanks again Steve and crew!
I had a feeling that you guys wanted to have a setup like this at some point in the future, but damn I did not imagine it would be here so soon! You guys are becoming the only tech channel worth watching at this point.
Really like the colour-scheme of the wedgie-room 🇫🇮 Excited to see content that benefits from this investment! GN really going all out, wishing you all the best! ’Even a blind person could see’ the passion going into the project. Oh and felt like Steve met his match, Dave being like Steve’s builder-cousin, explaining things beyond thoroughly, not leaving the smallest detail unmentioned.
HELL yeah guys! I've been working with anechoic chambers for like 9 years now. Currently my office has one made by Eckel/Viking. It's super cool getting a rundown of the construction for one of the senior guys. Killer content.
I love that both GN and LTT are getting into building their own testing chambers, and are so far specializing in different directions. While I feel they should eventually overlap to keep each other on their toes, keeping separate focuses at first is best. As an audiofile, I love this. Side note: the other is doing cell and wifi testing chamber.
It’s great, but only one of them has gone out of their way to discredit the testing methodology of the other. That began about a year ago when the other tech reviewer revealed they would be testing power supplies as well.
If I had 1/10th of this man's sequential critical thinking capabilities, I'd be a happy clam. The videos and work by Steve and all of GN have only improved in quality and depth over time, thank you!
That was super intresting! Dave clearly knows what he's is doing and the finished chamber looks amazing. I'm glad that GN is continuing to expand their capabilities!
As an engineer in the RTP NC area, theres a good chance you might be the only anechoic chamber lab available for commercial use in the immediate area (aside from a similar chamber found in NC State and Duke). Next closest I’m aware of is located in Apex. I don’t know where you sit on the availability to rent out the chamber, nor do I know if you have completed certification of these facilities. Maybe when not in use, you could offer services to people that need them for testing in the small scale. Could make some nice money to help pay off that investment.
I'm so thankful for Gamers Nexus to show us this and also very thankful to Viking Enterprises for their amazing and dedicated work to build this. Such level of detail and attention to everything both function and form is very inspiring. Great work all around!
This video made me want to join the channel and give this group three dollars a month. NO ONE ELSE IS DOING THIS SHIT! Well deserved, I cant wait for part 2 and to see the results. Thank you for your amazing commitment to give proper data to your viewers, this team is a treasure.
This is going to be epic. Trusted, reliable, analytical, data without bias. Thanks so much GN, you guys are legends. I am an pc building enthusiast, cabinet maker and industrial work station fabricator by trade, so much of this high level technical data is beyond my needs, but damn I love seeing work done right!
As an amateur audio engineer, this was eye and physics candy for me. I loved every aspect of this and am greatly looking forward to the following videos
Nice Video, reminded me of my uni days at Institute of Acoustics at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poland. The anechoic chamber in there has a usable space of roughly 7x7x7 meters and wedges are about 1.7m tall. You walk inside through an over 2m corridor. Fun times. With your dedication to your work It will be a put to a good use.
I was smiling throughout the whole video, thank you for sharing this with us all. I truly love specialists that put in the work and Dave showed off that he knows what he is doing and loves what he does.
This is seriously impressive. I am blown away. GN keeps getting better and better and I'd argue they are the best independent testers/reviewers in the tech world and deserve 3x the subs they have. Keep it up GN, you're doing incredible work.
@@drefk1973 well that was a really awful thing to say. Someone doesn't comprehend scale. They are different independent outlets with completely different scales and levels of complexity. And that's actually a good thing. You want a better consumer landscape? Cause having multiple independent outlets of different sizes testing the same stuff is how you get a better consumer landscape.
@@drefk1973 one isn't supposed to be better than the other. They are supposed to coexist in the same ecosystem as mutual entities, working in symbiosis to empower you as the consumer. Sure, you can have your stupid, uninformed opinion about which outlet you "prefer", but that doesn't change the fact that you and your brand-loyalist opinions are just objectively irrelevant to any of what LTT or GN do. In other words, you my friend have just committed the cardinal sin of posting CRINGE. Your sentence is one week off the internet. Better see you making some friends and touching grass instead of posting ignorant takes that make you look like a sniveling 14 year old in RU-vid comment sections. Run along now.
Very cool to see Beranek mentioned, my first job out of college was working for Rockwell Collins, and he was working there in the early days. Really innovative company with radio tech.
Its just simply amazing that we are at a point where independent reviewers have enough support to purchase things that even large manufacturers need to think long and hard about purchasing. It also really cant be understated how much GN testing keeps the industry honest, the industry went on the assumption that the end user does not have the means to verify their claims for way too long.
IF that happens, which it won't, we'll be fcked because one or the other is completely wrong then, so we lose. But again it's not going to happen. It's just not possible with this level of investment.
Different takes? Sure. Different lab results? That's not how science works. If it's not consistant and replicable and verifiable by others, then it's not valid and something is wrong in the chain of processes. This will be amazing to see, and I also see it being a huge way for them to collaborate. Like sharing units to see if they got the same results and the problem is with the different samples, and stuff like that.
@@costafilh0 Exactly. Sadly I don't know if they'll collaborate. Steve never apologized for the warranty drama (they misreported the issue and jumped on it early, something VERY uncharacteristic for GN) and I'm sure they got a screwdriver from LTT but refused to do a collab with it. (which doesn't make sense as they sell fixed screwdrivers, not ratcheting ones) - it all started there, this idiotic competition from the community, and Steve doesnt' seem to want to put an end to it. It'd be amazing if they collaborated but at this point I think GN suffers from some version of penis envy and he's afraid working with LMG will make GN disappear as they're smaller.
man you can really see that dave has a passion for what he does! he absolutely lights up talking about all of the attention to detail in the work him and his team do and thats so satisfying to see. I'm a welder/fabricator myself and i love all of the fab work that you guys do with these chambers. killer video this was
@GamersNexus I bought one of your pc building mod mats and I absolutely love it, absolutely worth the $120 dollars in shipping as I’m in Australia but been watching u for the last few years, U and your team do a fantastic job and would like to say thanks again!
If you guys use the trough holes to bring in 12V DC into the room you can eliminate the potential 60Hz AC outlet hum and the high frequency switching from the switch mode power supplies.
It's so fucking cool getting to have the whole process and tech explained by someone who knows his shit so well like that builder. Props to him for being chill on camera
Holy shit, GN ain't fucking around anymore. I think we're all aware of what's been going on with LTT labs, and I was worried that it would end up being the only source of high-quality testing. I'm so freaking glad you guys are on the same level, because I sincerely trust the data you guys provide. And I sincerely trust your *motivations* more than anyone else in the business.
Dude between this and the LTT cnc desk PC it's been like a precision nerds wet dream. Nothing makes me happier than hearing from people that love and master what they do.
Make sure that floor is solid and flat! Dave is right about tongue and groove not having the edge to edge creaking but I've have plenty of tongue and groove flooring warp from improper anchoring and water and that WILL cause creaks and squeaks. It's good there's water resistant under flooring.
Steve and crew, you guys absolutely 100% picked the right guy (and company) to do this work. Everything he's saying is absolutely 100% factually correct!! It's GREAT to hear a contractor (and he's really an acoustic specialist) speak the way he is, he knows his shit. I was curious how he was planning on handling air control and between the work you guys did in the hard duct, which is perfect, and his soft line, it's going to be amazing!! Great job man, 250k is a LOT OF MONEY.. You did it right!
Hate to beat the LTT stuff like a dead horse, but man, the difference in production quality, planning filming etc. everything between this video and literally any LTT 'office tour' ' labs tour' anything is astounding. 11/10 video, made all the technical and traditionally boring stuff super interesting and looks like you guys play more off each others personality and expertise than any strict/rigid script. Amazing job!
@@TROPtastic I've taught in that field. The first thing you learn is that N=1 is either a joke or a scam. GN routinely interpret différences between parts which end up way within 2 sigma. But that's fine, you can always says "silicon lottery, something something".
very cool!!! so glad you and linus are doing these massive lab projects to independently review and hold companies accountable and better educate consumers!!!!!
Will be looking out to make sure no previous, current or future sponsors' products end up being tested in here. Because ANY past or present financial gain from a manufacturer would be a conflict of interest. Good luck! ❤
@trivolous28 It's not necessarily even about whether a comment regarding the product is negative or positive. Any opinion needs to be considered from the angle that finance played a part in formulating the end result. I mentioned at no point about any "criminal" activity taking place, nor did I make any insinuation to that affect.
Super wholesome and super interesting! Really glad Dave was happy to talk about the project on camera and GN made such an a fascinating video covering it!
