Whats up everyone! We are in Panama and more specifically the San Blas Islands. We’ve been here for 3 weeks getting to know our sailboat. Its been full of great people, beautiful beaches, new foods, and Boundless adventure. We are sad to say goodbye, but it seems as though this sailing life is constantly pushing us in directions we don’t expect. You see, Katy and I have recently had a conversation that goes in circles with NO conclusion. Until now. Our original plan was to settle into Boundless with this shakedown cruise, and then continue sailing east, and then north, back up into the Bahamas and to the east coast of the United States for hurricane season.
Something we quickly realized is that it is VERY hard to sail away from Panama, once you are in Panama. The Caribbean Sea is notoriously rough, and all of the prevailing weather patterns are against you. So just as we always say, "we have no plan and always stick to it". After consulting all of our weather routing books, we have decided to go with the flow, and head west, across the Panama Canal, and into the Pacific Ocean. This week we are taking you along with us for 2 days of beautiful westward sailing, away from the San Blas, and back to Linton Bay where we will tackle a couple projects, and then sail back to Shelter Bay Marina, where we will prepare for the adventure to come.
Enjoy!

Sailing at its finest! If you're a sailor, what's one of your favorite moments out on the water? If you aren't, what's one of your most memorable moments doing something you love?? ❤

Just came upon your channel. What a refreshing view! I’m tired of the popular channels that lag in time, edit them for their patrons and are leaving subscribers behind. You have a special finesse with editing that is warm, welcoming, and enjoyable. I’ll be back. Thanks.

lag time is unavoidable and often YT will not permit certain edits. Also patrons and patreons pay a bit more (money and time) - so, longer edits or "better" edits is part of what is paid for. I tend to pay attention to the audio as much as the video, though the views can be spectacular - the audio - sounds of life, water, weather and land and land life - or modern life - and music *_(!)_* are just as important and often over looked. I do get it to some point - some music or sounds may attract wider audience, though often they appear to be _dainbread zombies_ or some other nonsense - to each their own! Music is important. Often songs with a _singer (term used loosely)_ can detract and not because they are a _bad signer,_ it is simply that the song and signing are hamfisted into parts with the wild life or boat life or boat project life sounds would work way better! Some channels are including premium music for bits and parts and that can work wonders.

This is one of the better videos about the realities of being under sail. Thanks for sharing your experience with sail trimming and the shot of both of you at the stern with Boundless self-steering downwind is perfect.

Great vlog! Best of luck! I used NOVUS plastic polish on my jeep soft top for 30 years with great success. Works good on plexiglas too. I used to put a Terry cloth on an orbital sander and it polished everything great with little effort.

Hey Wave Dancer! Our Boundless is hull #33 built in 1984. We are looking to do a bit of a refit at some point, but will continue cruising for a while before stopping to do so. We took care of a lot of stuff while in Panama. If you look in the "about" section of our RU-vid channel page, you'll find a contact section where you can email us. I'd love to chat about our boats!

Recently, found your vlog and enjoy the kindness you show to each other. Watching videos as you moved onto the new boat. Doing the exact same thing myself. Been sailing 60 years and leaving for Southern waters in July. On all my boats I use a pump up spray tank with hot water, bleach and pin-sol to kill and prevent mold. I have come upon a product called Spray And Forget, a mold killer/preventer. The bleach/pin-sol kills it immediately and floods it away.

What I appreciate with your videos Parker is that you have approached this whole project with a high level of planning, professionalism and competence. Unlike some sailing channels like Mereweather and Atticas who seem like they just bumble along and aren’t competent boat fixers nor sailors. Keep up the good work

If you ment Sailing Project Atticus I do not concur with your critics. They fixed there first boat up from wreck to a seaworthy yacht and made their second boat ready for sailing around the world. All done in good craftsmanship and well planned! They crossed the Atlantic and are roaming the Med now. What is it you don't like, they couldn't do and have done any better?

I use the boom vang, the outhaul and the halyard to trim the main. That way it keeps its shape independent of the main sheet tension and the traveller is only used to move the boom to the right angle to the wind.

Thank you so much! I am always striving to capture it as realistically as possible. I'm working on recording higher quality audio for the sounds of sailing as well. It's a challenge especially when the sailing is great, because theres more wind noise to deal with!

@@SailingSeawind I grew up sailing on Lake Michigan so I enjoyed all the sounds while at sail, it just brought me back instantly to that place in time. The boom vang should be able to overcome the rigid boom support. It is spring loaded, so should allow tightening to bring the boom lower, or on the other hand, allow the boom to rise as needed.

Great video guys! So glad we met you and got to spend some time together in the San Blas. We wish we could buddy boat to Mexico with you but its not in the cards. One comment....I find sailing down wind I don't get the telltales on the main leech to stream like when sailing upwind. Off the wind the pressure is mostly on one side of the sail whereas upwind you use the sail like an airplane wing and develop lift, so you have wind on both sides of the sail and the telltales stream back. We hope you are having fun on The Pacific.

Hi Parker and Katy how come you aren't using your Monitor? You definitely want to be familiar with it and work out any kinks before a major passage. Rest assured that your autopilot will fail so the less you use it and need it the better. Beautiful boat with lots of high end finishes, hard lifelines all the way around wow! You found a great boat. Great episode, btw the fabric bits on the sails are TellTales. Ben S/V DAWN

See you next year! 🤣🤣🤣 Well, we are definitely in next year. It's March already. And a Happy New Year to both of you as well. Katie, being a long time bronchitis sufferer as I am, well, used to be, the one thing I knew that helped me especially with lying down and sleeping when my chest was that bad and coughing a lot, is a hot water bottle or heat pack on my chest. Don't lie it across your chest. Lie it up the centre of your chest and heat up your breast bone area which will then transfer the heat into both lungs. Just don't make it too hot. Remember your heart is in there too. The heat will settle the coughing and you'll go off to sleep very easily after that. The reason for putting it in the centre is because underneath is the bronchus, which is where most of the irritation is from causing the coughing. Drink plenty of salted water. That is good clean water with some Celtic or Himalayan salt added. Just a pinch. This helps the cells actually absorb the water and you can then drink a good amount, which is paramount for good health and fighting off infections. All that fresh clean air will have done you the world of good too. Anyway, enjoyed the video. I've seen so many other sailing channels go through the Panama Canal. It'll be great to see how you guys handled it. Clearly you are already through and probably up in the Sea of Cortez or somewhere else by now.

I don't remember telling you that your tiny radar reflectors are simply useless. You need a big rectangular one or even better the active type. Happy sailing!
@SailingSeawind
@SailingSeawind 5 месяцев назад
I think I did see a comment (maybe from you) about that a while back. We transmit AIS which is nice, and I've read that having the two radar reflectors on either side of the boat on an angled shroud helps because on either tack, one is standing relatively straight up and down. Ive never heard of active radar!
@johnmayer3433
@johnmayer3433 5 месяцев назад
@@SailingSeawind Fishing vessels are infamous for switching of their (active) AIS so if they haven't got an extra passive one they do not see you! Also boats not legally obligated to use AIS are certainly big enough to sink you in case they don't see you in foggy conditions. As for your tiny reflectors, the British MAIB (Marine Accident Investigation Branch) has in 2007 tested a broad range of reflectors and your type 'performed very poorly'. An active radar reflector is produced e.g. by Echomax company, the name is Active-X-Band, the price is around 950 €. Its antenna is about the size of your passive device. I know from experience that it shows an echo like from a huge freighter on any radar device. Of course, a lot of money. But you should at least go for a big rectangular reflector with a size between 300 mm and 470 mm. They can be disassembled and may be hosted only e.g. for an overnight passage. Best thing though is to mount it on the mast top .

reading books can give you specific knowledge of what you need to know, however addictive reading of many books is self imprisonment of the mind of hiding from reality, ask a person what was the subject in the book they read 10 books back, or 50 they don't know., but its nicer to have your partner quietly read than asking thousands of none stop useless questions.
