We are in our third year of homeschooling, and this is our first year using TGATB and doing a morning “basket” (ours is a wall unit with multiple baskets lol). I use it as a time to work on all of our memory work..continents, oceans, calendar, math facts, address and phone numbers, poetry, patriotic quotes etc... I have such a hard time narrowing it down and not wanting to do it all, so I love the idea of a loop! I found you when researching TGATB, and you have been such an encouragement and inspiration! We are followers of Jesus too, and I have been searching for good material I can add to help us hide His truths in our hearts and make them hunger to find out more about Him! I had never heard of the Daily Grace...going to put in an order this week! Thank you for sharing with us! Even my young kids love cuddling up with me to watch your videos ☺️
My babies are still small so we do a "morning circle" at the table while having breakfast. We do a bible read aloud with worship music in the background and we do our calendar time. I've found that letting the kids know "the plan" for the day helps me SO much!! They know what to expect and sometimes even remind me of things we said we were doing for the day. I try to keep it fun during morning time so if we still have time we'll have a coloring sheet or bring out our magnet tiles to keep them busy while I clean up our breakfast mess :)
Hello!! I am brand new to your channel as well as to home schooling! I have a 4 year old and a 6 year old. It can be intimidating to home school your children in the beginning but God really helped us to make this decision! I am happy to have found your channel!
I am a new homeschooling mom of four(4kids) this year and I am thinking of staring a morning basket, I think it is a great way to get the subject we do not do everyday. I am enjoying your videos thank you for your insight and suggestions😍
New homeschool mama here and I am SO grateful I found your channel! You have such a sweet spirit and this video was so, so helpful!! As I’m planning our morning basket for the first time, I’m pretty sure I’m going to be using yours as inspiration! 😉🥰 Thank you so much! Blessings on your family’s year of learning ahead!
Oh I like calling it symposium time. We are having a morning time but I want to do things that don't always fit in a basket. Like exercise or something to help get the wiggles out. Cooking, music and bible time.
I love that you loop subjects! I have morning time with my daughter and we spend a lot of time reading on history, science and the Bible. By the time we start our math we get tired and I feel like we are not using our time wisely. Thank you so much for sharing your journey I love your down to earth personality
I like that you include the bloopers at the end. It makes you even more relatable! 😆 Last year for kindergarten we did a calendar board that had month, date, day of the week, time of day, season, and weather on it. And we had certain things we did in a loop, like poetry, geography, art, science, and read alouds, but we didn’t call it anything. 🤷🏼♀️ I heard another homeschooling RU-vid mom call it their “riches” so in my head I always thought of them as our “riches”- the things that aren’t necessary, but enrich our homeschool. This year we are doing the Big Thoughts Basket from MB for Bible and looping poetry, art, music, history, and read alouds.
I haven't started my morning basket yet. I know my 7 year old is excited. I believe We are going to do themes but not sure how that is exactly going to work out. My goal is to start in September. I know I want to incorporate picture books, read a loud chapter book, non fiction book, poetry, a game, and etc...
Thank you for sharing all this information! This is going to to be my first year homeschooling, I was lost, but I found your channel and you have really helped me!
We love our designated time to connect and make it our own in the mornings. Keeping the littles hands busy with a snack or quiet table time activities has worked well for me. They soak in SO much...even if their hands are busy🥰
This is our first year homeschooling and I’m still trying to figure out what to put in our morning basket, but I know I plan to put a read aloud book in there, sign language cards, and handwriting practice. I actually found your video looking up Morning Basket ones to find different cool things to add. 😊
I am a new homeschool mom and I love your ideas for the morning basket. Will be stealing some of your book ideas haha . Thanks for sharing all your great ideas. God bless
Mommy of 4, 5 and under. I will be homeschooling my 5 and 3 year old. Haven't heard of a morning basket. I think adding a morning basket will be a great addition to our days.
This is my third year homeschooling and I have never used a morning basket before but after watching your video I am planning on give it a try. So the cards will be a great help and addition to our bible study. Thank you for sharing Dina and continue this awesome work that you’re doing!
Loving your resources! I have always done a traditional circle time as well. Just within the last year have I learned of the ‘Morning Basket’ concept. I see the value, and am excited to add this practice to our homeschool day. We are going to add a quick table/lap/brain game to our routine to engage group play (which is another concept I highly value. 😁) Pam Barnhill is a huge inspiration to me as well. 😁
I am also starting morning basket for the first year of my homeschooling journey of 8 years! I have been hearing about morning basket for a couple years now and always have been interested, but what gave me the motivation to start this year is I am expecting my 8th child and he is due right in the beginning of school. So I will be spending a lot of couch time in the beginning (because of needing a c-section) I figured what a perfect time to try morning basket with everyone and fit in those not every day subjects like science and history! I am also going to be introducing and diving more into poetry with all my children during this time. I am very excited and hopeful that what I have planned in my head works out great and that we will all enjoy this time together as a happy family 😊💖 Thanks for showing "can you hear it?" this is one book I saw from one of your past videos that I am trying to find and get to add into our basket as well. I am new to your channel and am really enjoying it! Thanks for everything you share!
I'm new to the homeschool world. This is the year I'm homeschooling my preschooler. We definitely enjoy circle time, we have lots of creative fun while learning. I also have a bilingual child English & Spanish. I've never heard of morning baskets but I'm definitely going to look into it & making it comfortable to his learning level. Thanks.
I’m starting homeschool with my 5 year old for Kindergarten. I am excited and nervous. I’ve been watching your videos and love your ideas and passion for Christ. I would love these books of the Bible cards for my son Isaac! We have started reviewing them a little but I just said each one and he repeated after me. Flash cards is such a great idea!!
Hi Dina, I really like your channel as you explain & show things in detail, that really helps me. I’ve started teaching my 2.5 year old a little everyday so most of the ideas are from your channel. I’ve seen your circle time video & just started the same with my lil one, surely gonna try the morning basket too👍 thank you & keep going 💜
I love the idea of naming your morning basket something different, we will be doing of the same things you will be doing. I am in love with that Ology book and my girls who are 5 (almost 6) and 7they love it as well. I have also checked out the daily grace co. since you have mentioned here, thanks for that!!!!! Have a blessed day!
This is our 1st year homeschooling although it has been planted deeply in my heart 2 yrs ago, but I am still thinking about morning basket and figuring what can work for us.
Thank you for your encouragement! I have a 6 year old, 4 year old, and 1 year old. Right before we moved, which was also right before Covid, we had a regular morning basket time. We did devotions, went over days of the week, months of the year. We learned counting with songs and sight words too. We loved reading through Proverbs. I would give the boys words to listen for and give them an M&M if they heard it. Since we moved though we haven't gotten back to our morning basket time! I love your schedule and you've given me some good ideas to add in to our soon-to-be-starting morning basket!! We're officially starting 1st grade next month with my six year old. I'm going through your videos now for sum ideas and encouragement. 😁
Our morning basket time is bible time, Spanish, poetry, saints, mother goose treasury and aesop's fables. We focus our basket on what is good and beautiful and inspiring to carry us through the day with the love and light of Christ. Having the bible cards would be a really fun addition! Your morning basket looks really fun and packed full of interesting facts! Love your videos. 🙂
We have a Morning Basket with a few items in it (devotionals, picture books, journal) but you've given me so many new ideas! Your videos are so dangerous, you are unwittingly such an enabler!!! Love your videos, I look forward to them every week!
The Morning basket IS a monster! Hahaa After using one for a couple of years, I’ve switched mine up several times. There’s so many ways you can use it.
I found your channel recently because of the pandemic. I have zero experience homeschooling but I would like to learn as much as I can and be ready in case the current worldwide situation does not get better. So thanks for everything that you share on your channel! Gracias!
I like “Symposium” !!!! Since we are starting at 3rd grade calling morning basket/circle time Symposium will be great!!! Learning a new word which gave me the idea to do Spanish as well as music (she plays the violin and guitar at the moment) , of course devotional/bible study/scripture memory, and letting help plan an activity. Not doing everything at once but these are just some ideas.
I am brand new to home schooling this year! There’s a whole back story to it but the cliff notes version is that it’s been on my heart for a while now and the public school system has failed my special needs son. I’m looking forward to this new chapter in our lives and have been doing so much research and I’ve been loving your videos! I’m working on finding curriculum now and figuring out a morning basket routine for us!
I just started homeschooling my 3yo & love all your ideas! It’s our first week of using a morning basket & I have found that my toddler definitely needs an activity to do while I’m reading so I’m hoping to incorporate more hands on things in our morning basket while I read to him from the Bible & read other stories. I’d be curious to know how your youngest handles reading time & circle time?
Yes! Keeping those little hands busy is important. I'm so bummed I forgot to include what activities I'm going to be using for Morning Basket time! I've gathered a few different activities from the Target Dollar Spot and the Dollar Tree that will keep my little ones busy as I read. 😉
I love the "symposium" idea. I have a couple of middle graders and a couple littles, I think the middle graders would be excited to participate in symposium rather than morning basket. The cards are a super cute tool.
First time homeschooling mama of 3 under 6. Love your ideas for Circle Time and will definitely be incorporating "Morning Basket" during our breakfast time.
Hi I am your new subscriber and I like you. I am an early childhood educator and am currently homeschooling my younger one . We do include lots of books for our circle time and morning basket . We also use lot of stuff from Target dollar spot, I believe it helps a lot . Was great watching this video. Thank you for all the information 😊
I am new to homeschooling and morning baskets. I am planning on incorporating morning time into our morning routine! You gave me so many great ideas! My favorite is The Children's Book of Virtues! I dont think I would have thought to add it but I still have my copy from my childhood and I am so excited to share it with my kids! Thank you for the inspiration!
I think I will try and do a morning basket once I find my homeschool legs. Although we have wanted to do this for a while , this is our first year. I’m very excited to incorporate what I want into their learning
I love hearing how you momma friends all do your morning baskets! We don’t really do one... but I love the book suggestions and ideas that you all use anyway! Good job lady!
I love following you and watching your videos ❤️ It is just the right combination of inspiration (without feeling guilty and inadequate) and relatable (I have all littles still) without being unhelpful! Thank you!
I am a new homeschooling Momma of 2, soon to be 3 little ones. Those flashcards are so beautiful I would definitely love to win them!😊 Thank you so much for your videos! They are very informative and full of great ideas and tips for us, new homeschoolers. Keep up the great work!🙌🏼
I seriously LOVE the books of the bible cards!!! Ughh soo beautiful. You could totally clip them onto a string with some cute little clothes pins and then you could still pull them down to read the backs. 😍 Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for your video! I got some great ideas! I have been wanting to put together a morning basket for my 1st and 3rd grader so I’m slowly collecting things for it. I like that you’ve included books from several different subjects.
We have tried a morning basket in the past, but it never lasted more than a few weeks. I am going to try it again because, as you said, it is a great place to put things that don’t fall anywhere else naturally!! Great suggestions, and blessings to you as you start the new school year!
Your breakdown really helped! I definitely have to try the morning basket now. This is my first year homeschooling my 7 year old (hopefully not the last). I absolutely love your videos and I’m so glad I found your channel!! God bless you and your family ❤️❤️
Great video! I have a morning box that I do with my 2 year old each day. Right now, I have him learning to identify his name so we spell it out with his plastic letters and name the color of each letter then match the letters to his name spelled out on a paper and let him color that. Sometimes I read him a bible story while he is coloring, sometimes we just do this activity while I’m making breakfast. He always seems to enjoy this time, so I’m hoping to slowly increase how long we do this each day and add other things into it.
In the mornings, we have what we call our Truth and Beauty time. It includes Bible everyday and a rotation of catechism, folk songs, hymns, poetry, nursery rhymes, and Bible memory. I change these suggestions out monthly. This is for a third grader and a kindergartner. We loved The Ology and would also recommend Songs for Saplings (check out their RU-vid channel)! I would love the books of the Bible cards. We are working on memorizing those this year.
My kids are almost 4 years old, 2 years old, and almost 1. This year we are going to try a morning menu out (I made it from the curriculum we are using) it has short Bible verses we are memorizing, Bible terms we are learning, and the short hymn we are learning. Then we do Bible story reading, prayer, and read aloud. Thanks for the other ideas 🙂
Oh would love those bible cards! We do Morning Time: every sitting is prayer , 1 minute Max Lucado devotion, gratitude journal, CNN 10, then a loop subject which are Great Composers with cd, Extraordinary Women of History, Bird study with a cd, Poetry Tea Time, Art study Children’s Introduction To Art. We close by stating our 6 truths: Tell the truth, Be Nice, Save your money, Work smart & hard, Do your best, Do all things unto the Lord xo my kids are 11& 13 and MT usually takes around 45 mins. Then we roll into science together & an audio book. Then we split off to do individual subjects. 4 hrs , 5 times a week
Thank you for posting your video on Morning Basket and Symposium. What a great aid to this first time homeschooling mama! Can't wait to get your updates/feedback on this concept!
We haven't homeschooled in the traditional sense...yet...but the idea gets more and more appealing. I recently found your channel researching on youtube for "Christian homeschool moms" to gather my intel. (I'm also the daughter of a retired Army Vet, so the military lifestyle tugged my heart a bit. 😁) We do devotion every morning. My kiddos have workbooks and we read from scripture the story they are coloring and have open discussion. One of the things we are talking about doing soon is memorizing the books of the Bible. Those cards would be absolutely wonderful to use to help do that!! Your daughter shares your genuine and joyful giggle! So sweet!
Hi! Thank you for all the great ideas. This will be my first year homeschooling my 4year old. I’m excited and nervous all at the same time! I’m really going to look into incorporating a morning basket now that I know a little more! Thank you!
I like that you're kids are similar ages like mine and a get a lot of inspection and idea from your videos 😊 i have 6y, 4,5y , 2,5 y and 4month old boys...so i know it can get busy and loud but it is truly an honor and a blessing to be able to teach them and guide them through all the learning and growing🤗💕
This is my first year homeschooling. I like the idea of a morning basket/symposium so I’ll be searching for items to put in ours. My daughter loves poetry. I think she will like some of the books you shared.
I will be doing morning basket with my son and we are so excited for some extra one on one time! I love that you guys will be using the term symposium!
We are going to be a new homeschool family starting next year but we hope to do history, science, bible and art on a rotating basis as our morning time. Love the resources you mentioned. I now have even more stuff added to my wishlist for homeschool. 😊
We too would be new to a more committed morning basket but I’m planning on adding short story books, some geography and biographies. I love circle time!!
We are starting pre-k homeschool this year. So this is all new to us. We are definitely going to give circle time a try first thing in the morning though.
Those cards are the very thing I love the best from your morning basket! 😍 I’ve been trying to figure out how to assemble a morning basket and want to start that sometime soon!
Thank you for sharing !! This is my first year homeschooling and also doing circle time and morning basket. I'll be adding music, poetry. History as well.
Yay! Those cards are so pretty! We will be doing morning basket as a first yr homeschool family so I am not sure what I am doing but I love to get ideas!
This will be our first year using the morning basket routine .. my little will be 4 next month and circle time was not a hit this past year but I'm hoping for a better reaction this year! I have been adoring your channel momma thank you so much for the wonderful content!
This is our first year doing Morning Basket. My thought process around it is very similar to yours. I made a little 'cheat sheet' with four days and things I'd like to accomplish during each day.
We are starting homeschool (tomorrow! :o) )this year with 3 littles under five years old. I have some of these books and I, too was trying to figure out how I was going to incorporate them into our school days without it being, too much. We will have to try out morning basket and circle time. Thank YOU for this video, its inspiring and helps me get my thoughts in order. Praying for a fulfilled year of learning with my babes and look forward to watching some of your videos for more ideas and motivation.
Hi Dina. Hope that you are well. I will be starting homeschool for my 2 four year olds this year. Haven't thought about a morning basket yet, but your ideas are wonderful!! TFS!! Great ideas.
