What a timing I just made an AI song about the Carolean deathmarch. When the King died the army in the north started to go back to Sweden. But since they couldn't bring their cannons with them they couldn't do so much in the war. So the time passed and the summer ended and soon it was winter. The Carolean army were still walking in summeruniforms. More than 3000 froze to death on the Swedish Norwegian boarder because they was walking in a blizzard at new year 1718-1719. I have actually lived on both sides of their deathmarch, both in Swe and Nor so I know the story quite well. This is the worst mountain tragedy ever on record. Yet almost nobody knows about it.

Tommy was lead guitarist in Sabaton for 7 years. He left this year to focus on his own band Magestica and his You Tube channel. So he has played this song many many times. Tommy is an incredible talented musician, plays at least 11 instruments and have an awesome voice. Erik has also an amazing voice. So 2 fantastic singers together! 😍💯🎸🇸🇪

Sabaton has a history channel, where we get to learn more about the people and the events of their songs. If you're curious to learn about Karl XII, or Carolus Rex as he's called in Latin, one of the most wellknown kings in Sweden you could check out this video: Carolus Rex - Charles XII of Sweden - Sabaton History 084 [Official] It's really interesting!

Carolus Rex (latin for King Charles), as he was called, was a very interesting person and king. He is considered to be the last warrior-king of Sweden, and one of, if not the last, king to lead his troops personally into battle - from the frontline, in the vanguard. His story is absolutely insane, especially compared to the other kings in Europe at the time. Carolus crowned himself as he did not want to swear any oaths to the church, and fully believed the crown was his divine right. (It was otherwise normal for the crown to be passed to the king by the church.) He was taught that the king is only subservient to God, and it was the Lords divine right that made him king. He was born to rule. Trained as a soldier from a very young age, he learned everything about warfare, tactics and how to be a soldier. He preferred the life of a soldier over that of a king, he seldom wore fancy clothes or wigs, instead he clothed himself in a military officers uniform for most of his life, even when he was not in battle. Carolus was his own best general. He was loved by his troops and having him present was a great morale-boost to his soldiers. He never asked anything of his own troops that he himself would not do, and frequently delegated the toughest and most dangerous tasks to himself. The king fought and beat a coalition of several countries, one by one, and his army was greatly feared by the neighboring countries. Eventually he lost, partly because of hybris, and partly because he was the granddaddy of the old "lets invade Russia in the winter"-strategy (which never works). However, Carolus had some great flaws. He hated diplomacy and scheming, which made him terrible at making peace. He was also VERY stubborn, and his word was law. There is a very famous quote by him, here paraphrased: "Any attack against me will be met with force until the enemy is no more". Carolus stubborness to NOT make peace with his enemies became his downfall. He finally died outside a fortress in Norway, which his army was beseiging. It is likely that a grapeshot from a cannon did him in, seeing the size of the hole in his temple. Carolus has a statue in Stockholm, one where he holds a sword with his right arm, and points to the east with his left. He points eastward because Russia is there, and the message is a reminder that the true enemy is always in the east.

Karl XII is an impressive warrior king. He is called the Swedish Lion and It represents Karl XII's successfully during Great Northern War. So yes his history is interesting and impressive. The only bad thing is that the extreme right, neo Nazis have taken him as a hero and symbol for the pure Swedish. But that is of course BS since he was open for all nationalities and spend a lot of time in Istanbul (where he stole the idea of meatballs and made it to what it is today.
