That was just awesome. Could the content have gotten even better because of less cameras?? 😉 Glad to See Rox getting some quality cow sniffing time on land! But yeah, Cape Horn... a pinch-me moment. Congrats! Hope I can get my Cal 33 at least out of the NE and to the Bahamas in a few years. Stay safe. -Jim s/v "Slap Shot"
Cal 33, great boat, we had one back when Curt was younger. We sailed Lake Erie. We remember him racing a Tartan while we were cursing to Cedar Point with that boat, of course we were faster. LOL
Such an aweome region to explore, particularly through the lens of such nice wonderful sailors. Refreshing to hear of a straightfoward check ins, it's shocking how overbearing it can be in other locations, there must be better ways globally. I love how the Ruca (J45) has some smaller sisterships in Puerto Williams in the form of a fleet of J24's! I love how Roxy relishes the olfactory voyage, reminds of dog sailing memories. Despite the sad loss of your drone and camera, I hope you are able to gather lots of footage and sound, perhaps future uses could be some ASMR. Looking forward to you rounding of Cape Horn.
Love the ides of ASMR! We will have to give that a try! Thanks for the kind words 🥰 It was really fun to see the J24s. Hopefully we can get some footage of one sailing! Roxy loves the cows and horses and loves making friends with everyone.
Great voyage I use my diesel heater all the time . Connected a older six gallon Mercury outboard metal gas tank with a twist fitting. Warm and toasty in the high sierras.
When you saw that flag did you think, whoops this is Texas? The Chile flag actually predates TX & is slightly different. The experts think TX had no idea Chile had a similar flag when making theirs. Nice Yacht Club, I sailed a few with the old style wheel & big deviation adjustment balls.
Thanks for taking us all along! We are all living vicariously through your adventures. Who knew there was a yacht club way down there? And super mercados, too! Guess I was still imagining Slocum's trip and wondered when you were going to put out the tacks on deck. Stay safe out there. Glad we are all along with you!
Haha! We wondered that too! The world has come a long way since the tacks 🤣 The Micalvi is the southern most yacht club and has been a dream of Curtis since he was young. A fanastic moment to walk inside and see all the history 🥰
Hi guys, first of all ¡Congratulations! 💯🌎 I hope that they are already advanced in the Pacific Ocean. I was observing the weather in the southern region and it does not look promising, I think that Captain Curtis will take the leg to the north bordering the Chilean coast, there they will have strong winds but from the stern, arriving at Puerto Mont they will have snowfall, good luck and good winds. a little bone to Roxy
Yeah!!!! Congrats on the awesome achievement. So good to see y’all happy there. Thanks for the boat tour at the Yacht Club. Very nice. Great to see Roxy having fun outside. Hope diesel is not so expensive down there in Chile. Beautiful scenery in Puerto Williams. Thanks for sharing.
Such a beautiful rugged island. Love how the cows have free run of the place. BTW Curtis, I think cows in Chile don't say "Hola"... I think they say "Mooooooooo!" LoL
That place is Beautiful, and you all documented it like pros. Very calm and entertaining video with smiles everywhere. Yep, evening coffee with the best sailing channel on RU-vid is awesome. Keep having fun, stay warm and stay safe. Bill
Wonderful video that brings back many memories of my sail into Puerto Williams in 2002. The yacht club was the last place to get a shower before crossing the Drake and getting back 26 days later. The Club is a classic, glad to see it in such good shape. Hope it is not "gone before long" but believe it is still sitting aground.
Such a great video. You guys are awesome sailors. Can't wait to see the next video of the rounding of Cape Horn. Viewers need to watch your videos from the very beginning to see your journey.
Really enjoying watching your fantastic voyage. You guys really need a folding cart with wheels to put in the dinghy for your fuel cans and groceries. ;)
Aloha from the garden island Kauai, Hawaii . What a beautiful landscape Chile . So fantastic scenery . Thanks for sharing absolutely beautiful video. Good luck guys
Felicitaciones por el coraje de venir a estas latitudes, no muchos navegan estas aguas y menos el cabo de hornos, son una pareja de navegantes extraordinarios..!!
You two are doing pretty good with what camera equipment you've got left! I am going to try The stair cooking thing to cut down on condensation. I have a little issue with that in November and December before getting South.

Ding Ding Ding! You are the first one to guess the origin of the name. It originally comes from a Sublime song "Waiting on my Ruca". There is a short write up on our blog. There's a longer story to it than this, but you can enjoy the read here: sweetruca.com/whats-in-the-name/#:~:text=So%2C%20in%20short%2C%20the%20name,but%20so%20is%20the%20yacht.
There are no rule, of course, but for most sailors “crossing cape horn” means passing from one ocean to another, not going around the island, and you probably know that. Anyway, there is no demerit doing what you did, it would be just more elegant to be clear about it. For those who were following you it was a kind of anti-climax. So long trip expecting to cross cape horn, and then you just turn around and come back….
