Our RV Hurricane Escape Vehicle! 

The glory days of owning an RV are history for the vast majority of the people. Certainly, there have been at least some advancements made in the construction of them in certain areas. Slide out extensions allowing for more living space is no doubt the biggest of those. But let me elaborate some on why i say this. In the early 70s my wife and i were contemplating the purchase of a travel trailer. My brother already owned a nice motor home, and we knew we preferred a tow behind trailer over a motor home. We took delivery of a new 31’ Holiday Rambler top of the line Rambler model in the early fall of 1972, it was a 1973 model year. It had all aluminum construction, meaning no wood at all was used in the construction. It was the largest trailer Holiday Rambler made at that time, and it was several more years untill they ventured into building motor homes. It had what was called mor ride suspension and oil bath wheel bearings. The hitch package was included in the package price from the dealer. It had a rooftop Coleman 5000 btu AC unit, a 20’ pull down vinyl awning, a 12 cubic ft gas/electric Dometic fridge, a 6 gallon Dometic water heater, 40 gallon fresh water tank with a pressure water system and on board compressor. The holding tank was also 40 gallons, and there was no seperate grey water tank. But the grey water could also be discharged onto the ground if permissible. AND, the total cost was $10.000, brand new. Mind you, at that time, Holiday Rambler was as popular as the Airstream was. The 1972 Chevy 3/4 ton 4 wheel drive duel air conditioned suburban we towed it with also had a 40 gal. fuel tank, and cost new $7200. A stay at a KOA campground with a full hookup site was on average 6 dollars per night. Out first trip to Disney World was also in 1973, we stayed at the Fort Wilderness campground which was $16 per night. We made nine trips from PA to Disney World over a period of 7 years because it was affordable for us to do. A weeks stay including park passes for us and our 4 kids would cost about $1000. Mind you that the first time i ever paid $1 per gallon for gas was in 1977 on a trip to Rocky Mtn National park in our trailer. One of many we made in that trailer to every part of the country. And that was for a Canadien gallon, not a U S gallon. Now, would you also like to hear what i paid for a brand new 1986 24 ft. walk around cuddy cabin Grady White boat, with twin Yamaha 150s, 150 gal. fuel, outriggers, and a new 3500 lb trailer with 4 wheel brakes? lol

Great video. I like the hurricane escape part. We live in Sarasota. We have a 2006 Monaco Dynasty named Lady Dye. She is a 42' diesel pusher. We use it to leave town when hurricanes are forecasted. We do love traveling the country in it too. We have taken it to Key West. We found a really nice RV campground there we like there. Next time we are in the Key's my wife and I are looking forward to taking one of your canal tours.

I like 2017 25.2 yes the slideout comes out the back so you just modify the hitch for the bike rack. But it is the 25.2 that has the biggest shower at 30"x36" but comes in at an overall length of 26'- 6"

Good evening to you two! Thank you very much for sharing your rig with all of us! That looks like an awesome, compact Class A! Very well appointed. We just ordered a 26 ft Outdoors RV travel trailer, so we'll be the length of a long bed pick up longer than you guys hehehe. But, we live up in CO and needed something capable of traversing the national forest unimproved roads, as well as a 4 season capability. Very nice rig that you have , though. I looked at the Thor website and saw they did have a queen bed option. Your rig is deceivingly compact! It really is within a foot of those wide body sprinter van options such as a Leisure Travel Van or so. Safe travels!!

Hi Guys, just stumbled across this and really enjoyed the tour. Couple of questions: (1) Mark, you mentioned 10 MPGs, but is that while towing the boat? (2) Seems like most of the motorhomes I come across, especially the Class C's, have a long overhang in the back which can be problematic at boat launches, but yours does not seem to have that.
