Mia must have an incredible music library. She’s quite the musician. Sitting on a mountain somewhere playing her violin is what I’m looking forward to.
Two of the most creative and talented people on RU-vid, making magic each week and sharing it ad-free. Wonderful to see MC II emerging from her winter hibernation, more beautiful than ev!
This is going to be the premier of probably the most perfectly restored boat in the world. She may not be the product of a super rich owner; but boy, she shows the results of loving, skilled and passionate owners. When this boat sails into a port there will be many envious observers. Kudos guys.
Nothing quite as satisfying as stepping back an admiring how far you have come. It gives you that extra push to get you across the finish line. She is really starting to let her personality shine on not what she might be, but what she has become. Great job!
When you look at the boat from behind and without the roof over it, you can see how beautifully the boat is cut. Thank you for these pictures of your wonderful boat.
Love watching the boat work progression and the mile stones tumbled. Aladino, your teaching moments are top shelf! Maya, your musical score has become my very favorite aspect of this channel. My best to you both!
I was so happy for you two to see the boat in her natural environment!! I've watched the progress from the very start of the project! Truly I can't wait to see Magic Carpet II in the water and doing what she was destined to do!!
This sailboat had good bones, but now it has great bones, and it's showing through in the beautification process. The transformation is incredibly rewarding!
I know the marina where the boat is and my opinion is that they did not just "forgot" about you, they very so discretely helped you, because that is just who they are.
Magic Carpet coming out of the shed is like seeing powerful bird being released from a cage! Soon it will be time for her to spread her wings! Congratulations!!Take good care!
Life got busy and I haven't watched the channel since you moved the boat from the states. While watching today and seeing the transformation that is taking place, I literally had chills from my feet up. Yes, Magic Carpet is a boat, but you are also turning her into a work of art. I have never witnessed such an articulate restoration. Congratulations and I look forward to seeing her and the two of you in the water.
The video end reminded me of one of the best scenes from Shawshank redemption, when the protagonist says there’s nothing like sharing cold beers with your friends (or was it coworkers?) after a hard days work.
Congrats on the milestone, your effort and love for this project are truly reflected in the results achieved so far! It's crazy to think just how much time and energy has been put into it, but it looks like it was all worth it!
Guten Freitag Abend aus Powell River, B.C., Wonderful progress ! A bit premature but we hope you will again have a waterline/boot top. We also replaced our plastic coated wire upper lifelines with 1" SS tubing and love the look as well as the extra safety. We love you two and hope that someday Magic Carpet Maya and Ocean Melody Andy will collaborate on a musical treat for all of us. Liebe Grusse, Wilf & Bonnie Rennecke S/V Warlord, Black Hull Panda 40 .
Engraçado ver o Magic Carpet II ao lado dos outros barcos, me pareceu tão pequenino para um 36` , no entanto, a cada episódio está mais lindo! Parabéns Maya e Aladino.
I like that off-set drill chuck. I was quite nervous watching the shed dismantlement. One doesn't often demolish a structure with it's valuable contents in situ but of course it was done with typical Aladino care and skill.
I can almost hear the boat singing '' Iam getting closer to my home'' by Grand Funk Railroad. You guys truly are the embodiment of what the human mind and body are capable of when there is a strong desire of the realization of a dream is to be had. So much thought and plotting had to be done to keep the ball rolling. You have gained so much knowledge and confidence by diving into this headfirst and not looking back, after all, there is a home to be built! You have so many people rooting for you, wishing the best of luck, and praying that your dream is fulfilled. Sheets will be tight, and sails will be drawing before you know it! 🤗❤💪🌴🦈🍻🌎⚓⛵🌜🎼🏁
I couldn't be more impressed by the diligence and smart work the two of you have put forth in bringing life back into what is quickly becoming such a beautiful and functional boat. You're building your future, you two, and thank you ever so much for bringing us along on your journey!
Fantastic job on the Gel Coat. I appreciate the details that like to take care of and you both will appreciate the finished product. It would be nice in the final stages when you launch, to have the gentleman from the Boat Manufacturer see Magic Carpet ll.
Yeah!!!!! So happy to see that shinny boat! You guys are such amazing artisans and I think the detail of your workmanship will be a testimony to all those who follow boat restoration after you.
get it in the water! lets see if it floats lol....congrats on getting rid of the shed. Cant wait to see this channel switch from a boat building channel to a sailing/travel channel. Although watching Aladino's craftsmanship over the past few years has been a true joy.
Two "Dorade" [1] scuppers but one cowl. I saw a variety of these cowls on CN web outlet Alibaba. Some with minimum orders of 50 pieces, but others minimum 1 and prices in the US$10..50 ballpark depending on qty and size. "Cowl vent", "Dorade cowl vent", etc. Some may have a "deck plate" but this suggests that the scupper must be below deck. [1] It's thought that 1929 ocean racing yacht "Dorade" was the first to have these cowls as air vents, first without the scuppers (water rejecting boxes). They quickly found out that the scuppers were needed.
Hi,i love the new superstructure, but it looks a bit heavy to me(just joking). Now that the tent is down we can see properly MS2’s beautiful lines and her full body also the finish on her upper works show more brilliantly in the daylight..she looks great.well done to you both you deserve a beer or three.Being an old codger I would need stanchions for assistance at the companionway.Cheers,Roly🇬🇧.
Pilot hatch sliding door - I saw a see-through one in another channel with a modern racy cruiser in a very fast hull. I know how you want to make SMC-II as beautiful and authentic as possible and a wooden "front door" is totally required. No debate about that. I would consider a spare "door", though, that maybe is constructed of two layers of lexan (or comparable). Especially in higher latitudes that would allow a lot of light in and keep warmth inside. And, a layer of air up to 15mm is a great thermal insulator - less than 15 gives less insulation, more than 15 allows for the air layer to easily move and you get convection losses.
Great job both of you. I have not followed you so closely recently because working on my boat is something I hate. I do what I have to do to keep her working and looking ok. I first wathced you during covid as you were coming up through France and I could not sail my little Contessa. I am looking forward to you "splashing" your latest success. I guess she will be called Magic Carpet?
Dunno just how far in the past these videos are - but I feel you would do well to follow Uma's example and build a proper staircase once the boat has been moved. Much safer than messing about with a ladder all of the time. You have plenty of wood, just need a little ply, which you might find in the bin in any case.
It appears that MCII has a tumblehome shape @20:49 unless it was a camera distortion. I don't know which is more ardurous, wet sanding @ 800grit or holding that machine for hours on end. I think my then more youthful arms found wet sanding acceptable. A buffer also demands effort but the result is great.
Here's stupid question, why not just start with the polish.. on a car I would have washed my car then polished it with different polish mediums... isn't that just wet sanding anyway? My guess is you are trying to take off much more surface than polish can remove quickly.
You can spay gelcoat as well. Use 1.9 or 2.0 nozzle and reduce the thickness with acetone. Apply 3 coats and it will be like candy. Then you send it to blend the edges.
Truly brilliant episode, Magic Carpet looks like absolutely beautiful. Congratulation's are in order to the most creative and talented sailors on Utube.
Seems like only yesterday You were stripping the boat down to bare bones ! The progress has been amazing thanks for sharing with great videos & good music .
It looks so good I wish I could touch it, lick it even (bit weird) felt a bit emotional and I am half way round the World. I hope you understand how many lives you touch and enlighten, realising the lift it must give to you
I've seen a few folks think that they can skip the sanding step on sun faded and chalky gelcoat and just use rubbing compound and polish. it looks great sometimes for months, but always ends up dull and chalky again. the sanding is key.
it did seem a bit weird the yard asking to move your boat, coz i kept thinking seems funny to move something twice when really it should be just once - i'm always saying this at my yard, when something is taken out the van, put it on a pallet which is easier to move rather than having to pick stuff up a second time, shift it and then probably shift it all again - but now the shed is down, i kind of see what they meant, your boat is dwarfed by the larger boats around it - but isn't the yards fault for placing you there in the first place - but i also see your point, no point making a noise, ruffling feathers and peeing the natives off - your a good bunch but since this is on film for everyone to see, won't it put folk off going to that yard if they don't want to have to do the same kind of thing
Total boat is doing great marketing supplying you guys materials . I found a really good automotive ceramic coat lasts the best after you are finished polishing the boat instead of wax that does not last
Ok - I want to see the artistry of this boat transformation but I want to see/hear it through Maya’s musical interpretation. The two cannot be separated.
When you used the SIA sanding disc, were you using a random orbital sander ? size ? and could you use the same tool for the buffing/polishing ? (rather than what came with the kit)
I’m not sure but it seemed like if you had flipped those hatch hinges the other way, you had been able to fully open the hatch. And the then the edge of the hatch wouldn’t hit the deck.
