Is there anything better than an old truck? Well maybe an old truck that doesn’t handle like an old truck. Ill handling vehicles will take the fun out of the driving experience quicker than you can say ‘’this thing sucks to drive.’’ This where the aftermarket comes into play. There are a whole slew of companies that make suspension components for the beloved Squarebody trucks, but what is the best choice? For us QA1 was a no brainer. QA1 offers a complete bumper to bumper bolt on kit for 73-87 squarebody trucks. They offer rear kits for GM 10 and 12 bolt axles and Ford 9’’ axles. This eliminates leaf springs, replacing them with coilovers and a three link. The front kit includes upper and lower control arms, with improved geometry and coilovers. All built right in Lakeville, Minnesota. We complemented our new suspension with a Borgeson quick ratio steering box, a Ford 9’’ rear axle from Quick Performance , and Halibrand 19’’ and 20’’ wheels, wrapped with Michelin Pilot S tires. All those top notch parts has this truck handling more like a sports car than an old truck, and yes it’s still an old truck per say but I’d take an old truck over a high end sports car any day of the week. If you want to learn more about the parts or tools we used, there are links posted below for all the goodies - JC

Sweet build! I don't want to be "that guy", but I will just in case anyone goes looking for that specific type of punch. I believe it to be a Transfer Punch.

Looking Good 👍 I have been wanting to do some radical changes to G Series vans which essentially use the same components however it is potentially more of a challenge in the rear, being on a unitized chassis. One thing is shaving weight off of that crazy heavy crossmember if not replacing it entirely. I have a 4x4 van that was not built by me and it hardly has anything holding the engine in place with a straight axle and leaf set up. That has been the inspiration; I feel the original parts were overbuilt.

What spring rate did you order? 170, 200 or 250 #? I have an 85 shortbox GMC. Not going to tow with it, just use as hot rod. If you know front spring rate, please pass along also, if possible. Thank you. Awesome video! Just wheeled mine in shop. Had it since 87, cant wait to get started :,-)

Can you please tell me what is the backspace of those rear wheels? 4.0 or 5.5? Thanks!

I actually went and looked this up off of my invoice for you. They are 5.5 backspace. They fit well. Hope this helps!

@@CovertsShopThank you very much! It sure helps! Too bad, I can't find any polished 20x10 with 5.75 BS. I think they stop making them. I can only have them with a 4.0 BS. Do you think by any chance that they could fit a static lowered truck with a 4.0 BS? Thanks, and you have an really sweet truck BTW!

@@dominicgoulet738 your welcome. No I don’t believe the 4” BS wheel fit. These are tight on both the inner and outer.
