A tip from Blackie Thomas. Store your tent stakes in a zip closed pencil bag. Unlike the bags that your stakes come in the zip bag is thicker and zips don't untie themselves. And use a cheap claw hammer for stakes. Those mallets are unitaskers, too heavy, and make terrible weapons.
@nomadmarauder-dw9re
@nomadmarauder-dw9re 4 месяца назад
Well, I went looking for the pencil cases. I looked at Walmart, $ General, even Family $ and $ Tree. No Joy. All I could find are the type that fit 3 ring binders. But, the tip on claw hammer vs rubber mallet works.

Great advice. I have a couple of hacks to add....make a liner for your cooler out of foil bubble wrap insulation. Saw some videos on other channels, made them for my coolers and camped for 9 days alone and didn't need to buy ice after the initial fill up. Also my food was pre-portioned, vacuum sealed, and frozen way ahead of time. Then I layered the food into my cooler based on my planned menu for each day. Extra foil bubble insulation sheets in between the layers so all the cold didn't whoosh out every time I opened the cooler. Lastly....no matter the circumstances....keep your ice chests in shade. Inside the bear locker or out of it....use a pop up shade if need be.

When camping, it's usually either me alone, or my wife is with me. When camping by way of a vehicle, things are simpler because you can carry more gear. However, camping by way of a motorcycle, canoe, or back packing complicates things. Although I could go on and on about different hacks and tips, I will just name a few. 1. Tarps. You want at least 2. One to place under the tent, and one to build a shelter over the fire if it starts raining. We fold our tarps and put them on the webbing of our back packs. It makes then easy to get to and also gives us more padding between our backs and the pack. 2. Paracord. Always carry some. It's small, strong and lightweight and carry at least a 50 ft. roll. 3. Tent. If you are camping alone, have a 2 man tent. If there are two of you, have a 3 man tent. That way you have room to store your gear inside the tent with you. 4. Know the area you are going camping in. You need to know what forms of predators are out there and carry a firearm powerful enough to protect yourself. Remember, the most dangerous predator in the woods is not a wolf, coyote, cougar, or bear....it's people.

We also use storage bins for our camping. After 10 years in the US Army, EVERYTHING has to have an inventory list on the outside of it. Document protectors duct taped to the bin, and a list inside it... EASY-PEASY! Also helps remind us what we need to re-stock.

Some great tips. One thing we love to do is take a roll of twine and string it between two trees with a roll of paper towels on it. Make sure you have lots of extra room because you can then also use the twine line to dry things like towels or anything else that gets wet.

Okay ... you two are just waaaaaay too cute for your own good! Your tips are dirt-level "real-world" experience based, therefore relatable. Your narrative is "every-day" language, (although please be careful how often you slip into "for real cliché" language). You are obviously doing all of this on a limited and therefore (again) real-world budget so just about everyone can relate ... WTG guys!! I'm a retired Canadian military Combat Videographer whose job was to produce 3 or 4 minute feel-good stories for our military members. I have "camped" more times than I can count and from real world experience I can tell you that every one of your "hacks" are spot on (especially the frozen water bottles). One gentle nudge/tip ... you guys have great personalities and you work well together on camera, so get more "real-world" footage of the two of you doing your thing and interacting with each other on location. Yes, it's more work because of changing camera angles and locations and continuity etc etc ... however ... both you and your audience will greatly appreciate getting out of your studio/livingroom and getting into your real world. So ... keep it up! Happy to subscribe if for no other reason than the giggle-factor. I'm thankful I tripped over your channel. Bravo Zulu as we military people say. Continue to enjoy your lives and lifestyle.

Hahahaha thanks so much! 😃🤙🏽 Really appreciate the kind words and even the constructive criticism! We really struggle finding shooting locations that aren’t littered with people where it is nearly impossible to control the audio 🙄🤦🏻‍♂️😂 California always has a lot of people around and if not that it’s strong wind, 100 degree heat, lighting issues, or something else. Haha we are in the process of trying to find wireless mics that work well for us to help with that. The one long tip style video we did outside was really tough to pull off, causing me to have to talk a million mph so all the comments on that one are just yelling at me saying I don’t let her talk enough lol but they don’t realize why. 😂 Totally agree though we say that all the time, wish we had more quiet places to go that were pretty to look at, even though it is really more about the information, still would be nice. 😊 Thanks again for comment and thanks for watching! We really appreciate the support. ☺️

As a tip of my own,magnets are good to have for camping when you want to secure small bags or lightweight items to the metal on your car or the shades on your tent windows.Magnets don't cost very much and are like removable glue for things that you want to hold in place for a little while.They can also help with a tarp setup.

The best fire starter I found in my camping experience is to go to a dollar store buy a bag of cotton balls and vaseline, soak/smear the cotton ball in the vaseline, place it under or near your kindling wood, and boom fire. The cotton ball will stay lite for up to five minutes even if it is raining. You can make these at home or on site.
@WhereWeWild
@WhereWeWild 3 года назад
Haha yup that definitely works! So do Fritos, chapstick, hand sanitizer, and about a million other different things 😂 Was actually thinking of doing a video on all of em! 😁 But, the dryer lint does work really really well and has one advantage to all the others… it’s free 🤗😊

How many sage do you need to burn in 1 night? Is that better than tiki torch? I'm not good in camping. Trying to learn. Thank you
@WhereWeWild
@WhereWeWild 2 года назад
Up to you, as much as you need really… 😊 It’s just like having incense burning. Light it and blow it out so it smokes. And yeah personally I think sage is way better than citronella tiki torches. Just have it smoking near you if the bugs get bad. We keep a few bundles in our camping bin and just brake pieces off as needed. It burns pretty fast. And no worries! Maybe check out our camping playlist there are a few videos that might give you some ideas 😉🤙🏽

Place tent over puzzle mats instead of putting them inside. Elevates tent floor to reduce water contact with tent interior.

Sage is a great idea. I also carry duct tape or Gorilla Tape. It can be used for repairs or as a fire starter. A 1" roll will last a while and if you tear off about 6" and roll it into a ball, then light it, it will burn for a couple of minutes to help to light damp tinder. A great multi use item.

@@mikedebell2242 That’s really strange man idk… but it should be all like cotton lint and it’s extremely flammable. I always just make sure to have it in a paper towel or toilet paper roll to get that cardboard involved and then a nice pile of little dry stuff ready to go to slowly add on after the spark ignites it. Then its just adding bigger and bigger stuff until the actual logs.
