Wonderful tribute. Played a cricket match with Eddie 28 years ago on a beautiful sunny Sunday in Llanvapley, Monmouthshire. Eddie was great company, had a few beers and talked rugby and cricket in the bar afterwards. Wonderful day. RIP Eddie
Love that story. We spent plenty of time working at the Liberty Stadium over the years, Eddie was always on hand to grab a coffee and talk with people in the press room. It didn't matter if you were Alun Wyn Jones or the man serving coffee - he had time for everyone
Bill McLaren's equal in every way. Wales at home incomplete without Eddie Butler, Jiffy and Brian Moore. Astonishing voice and superb wordsmith. So many memorable phrases at so many historic moments and an uncanny knack of knowing when to say nothing.
God Bless you Eddie! You will always be in my heart and my two Anglo Welsh grandkids will love your voice forever bach and chwarae teg maybe you were at your best with Brian!
Sad sad news this morning that Eddie Butler has died. He was a decent rugby player, but much more importantly, a good man. I will miss his commentaries in the 6 Nations Rugby for the BBC and his interaction with Brian Moore, which shamefully, the BBC ended last year . The 2 clearly respected and had a great deal of affection for each other. I like Brians comments this morning about Eddie. So, may you Rest in Peace Eddie. You will be greatly missed by all of us here who hold the game of rugby dear.
Our Tribute To Eddie Butler 2138PM 16.9.22 strange days... pretty interesting commentator - with his rambling monologues as he bulls up the team or specific players he finds worthy of note...
