OUR TURN IN THE BARRELL HAS ARRIVED! OUR BROKEN MOTORHOME WINDSHIELD WAS REPLACED BY A MOBILE SERVICE RIGHT AT OUR CAMPGROUND SITE. If you own your RV for long enough, you have a high probability you will experience windshield "chips" that you should either have filled and fixed by a professional, or do it yourself. Sue & I actually recommend you carry a couple of the Rain-X Crack fixing kits so you can fix any small chips right away. We have used these a few times so far, and have been impressed. I carry two kits, and replace them after 2 years if not used.
Rain-X 600001 Windshield Repair Kit amzn.to/39sNG68
The crack in this video had been fixed professionally in Florida about a year ago. Once it started to get larger, it was "game over". Our RV insurance carrier is Progressive. In Florida, RV Glass Windshield Coverage is included, without a deductible. Progressive had us work with Duncan Systems Inc. who once they got involved, handled everything.
Perry Auto Glass was selected by Duncan to do our replacement. They were about 1.5 HOURS away in San Bernardino, CA. This tells me they were the correct company to do it, because many others were closer. www.perryautoa...
Motorhome windshield replacement is a specialty. Make sure you ask the installer you are considering how many RV WINDSHIELD installs they do per month. We requested only Newmar OEM Glass be used for our 2014 Newmar Dutch Star Model 4369.
AN EYE OPENING video to watch about how important a "correct" installation of your windshield is was filmed by 20/20 with Barbara Walters a number of years ago. Check it out: • 20-20 Windshield Safety

Mark we have had Progressive for 24 years and now have $0 deductible. Good deal. In '97 when we bought our first motorhome, they were the only insurers in California. Just yesterday moved both cars to them, as previous Insurer couldn't beat them, even after being with them for 40 years. Good information and tomorrow we are arranging a chip fix in our 2013 Newmar Bay Star. Thank you, because with your information we have decided to stick with gas. Diesel is too much for these 2 retirees.

Hello again; As my wife and i are placing our order for a Newell coach, insurance and finding the right one is a must. Many have a lot of ideas, but, getting the right one is like trying to find a good pair of blue jeans that fit right. This newest posting of your again drives that home. These coaches are not cheap, and are designed for a reason. Knowledge of it, it systems, what works, and what does not saves you at times a lot of money. As you point out in this video. Thanks for the reminder. Again, if made me look at the little things (LOL - in this case, windshield) that my wife and i are looking for in insurance. Thanks again; ScottishxPride

Our insurance is $4100/year on a 2014 Newmar Dutch Star model 4369. Our 2013 Honda Odyssey is around $1200. We have very high coverage limits on everything. We feel that is what the insurance is for. To protect your assets. We have a 2 million umbrella for $380 as well. Clean record on both of us. I temporarily changed from Progressive to National General on price alone. No issues or problems, with NG until I found out what I thought was an “Agreed Value” policy was really a “Full replacement plan” policy,….which is the typical game playing with the NADA values when you have a total loss. I never want to play that game with this much money. I don’t want a great deal on my insurance, …….I want a great insurance company and great coverage. What if I smash into a Prevost and bounce into a Newell? Make sure to insure to an “Agreed Value.” This is a “ no haggling” non decreasing number we are insuring to which Progressive will allow us to keep for 10 years. I dropped National General because they do not have this option. We insure to $234K. We use Progressive because not many companies will insure full timers in Florida AND insure to an agreed value. You need towing coverage on your regular Progressive insurance for ACCIDENTS. You need real “big boy” towing/roadside assistance for EVERYTHING ELSE. Coach-Net is the one that has the highest praise and least complaints. First year of Coach-Net coverage is $100 more than all the following years. Most of the other towing insurances will fail you when the going gets really rough for them to deliver. We decided to pick the companies we wanted, and not the prices. We realize this is a luxury. We do not have tire coverage. Each tire was $872

Great video. I didn't realize they could replace an RV windshield onsite, but your crew did a great job. We just returned from a trip to MagneShade in Mocksville, N.C. last Sunday. We had purchased the windshield shade for our coach at the Tampa Super Show and made an appointment to have the factory measure and install our shade. I asked them during the install what do we do if we have to replace our windshield, and they told me to remove the magnets from the broken windshield with a scraper and they would send us the glue to reattach them to the new windshield. We've already had the windshield replaced once. After watching your video I think we would do exactly what you did and just spend the $120 for new magnets. As it turns out, when we left MagneShade we went to Anchor Down RV Resort in Dandridge, Tennessee for a week, and on our way there took a rock in the upper left corner of the windshield which left a two inch crack. I used a Rain-X kit to make a temporary repair, and we had Safelite come out and make a permanent repair at Mt. Olive Shores North, but it looks like that repair may not really be permanent, as yours was not. I never thought about having to replace the windshield wiper arms.
@OurJourneyInMyles
@OurJourneyInMyles 3 года назад
The magnets need to be chiseled of the glass. A few took some glass with them. We saved the old magnets, and cleaned them off a few days later. They are SUPER STRONG. If you have a pacemaker, they are no joke! They are somewhat dangerous to clean,...easy to get a few blood blisters if they crash together. As careful as Sue and I were, it was like a "Keystone Cops Movie" watching all that happened. Next time we will have more than enough magnets!

That must be a common way to attach windshield arms to Class A coaches. Our '05 Monaco Exec mounts the same way. As a retired mech engr I have to believe their could be a better way though. Those fine splines are known to get stripped out in the soft metal in the arms. If that happens you can clean out the splines and remount the arm ( Subscriber "Pro Trip" #1 ) ;-)

Good video guys I enjoy these types of videos. Rather watch this than what type of barbecue grill to buy. Lol On the other hand I'm sorry for your expensive video. I hope you never need to change your refrigerator. We had to change ours Residential Refrigerator . we were lucky enough to get the same size through the driver's side window. Taking that window out is a lot easier than the windshield. But I did take the doors off the refrigerator and a couple buddies and I were able to slide it right in. Keep that in mind. Hopefully you'll never have to do it. Thanks again keep making the videos will keep watching. Be safe

😭At 2200 miles our 2021 Georgetown GT7 windshield cracked, beginning from the very bottom edge. Eagle One Auto glass 501 S Broadway Ave, Moore, OK 73160 came to our rescue and drilled then filled the crack as best they could. As you may know, motorhome windshields are very difficult to repair due to being so vertical. Many auto glass repair services won't attempt repairs in such vehicles. As said, Eagle One Auto Glass (501 S Broadway Ave, Moore, OK 73160) came to our rescue and the gooder part, 4500 miles later, with many RV park stays later, the repair is holding🙏 A shout out and big thanks to Twin Fountains RV Resort (Oklahoma City, OK) for extending our stay in order we didn't need move our RV and further damage the windshield. FYI, Forest River did approve a warranty claim for replacement. Unfortunately, a family owned dealership in Oklahoma City, left us hanging for several days necessitating us to move on before a claim was filed. Now home from our travels, we have a meet & discuss, scheduled with our RV dealership 🤞 hopefully the windshield, plus 12 other (new) problems, will be resolved. Appreciate the ”heads up on the wiper splines". Not surprising such junk is produced and in use on today's motor coaches. FYI to motorcoach buyers, look at the windshield from both interior and exterior in good sunlight. (Polarized sunglasses may help). If you see "any” discoloration in the windshield glass.... WALK AWAY. Unfortunately, we got caught up in the excitement of pretty paint and cabinet finishes as we were rushed through a look and see by a dealer rep. 😭The discolor in our windshield was there and I missed it. Amazing how we, the RV owners allow the RV industry to get away with such stuff.

Exactly Adam! That is what we wanted,......a crew that was true glass installer professionals.

That was an amazing project. I watched on being done at NIRVC, not my little RV thank goodness. That was a good tip on adding fasteners to the top of the dash area when you could get to them. Were you able to put nuts on the back?

No,........the screws were a blind install into "something". Just glad they fixed me up.

@@OurJourneyInMyles Better to do it when you did. Can you imagine having to pull the windshield to re attach that.😁

Very informative video, just curious if Newmar's recommended jack, slide, and airbag positions for windshield replacement were consistent with installers experience? I would have guessed that slides in, jacks up and airbags fully inflated would have been the way to go since the windshield would probably be under the greatest stress riding down the road. BTW, noticed the storm clouds in the distance during the install I bet that added to the stress 🤔

I was sweating the wind issues might be a problem as the install date approached. Didn't ask how the mobile install guys usually stage the coach for install. I was confident in my Newmar answer after the product specialist I was talking to walked out into the Nappanee Indiana service shop and talked to a guy that installs their windshields. Fingers crossed!

Lets hope you can get a 4 years like we did. RV's break enough already with just the inside stuff! You don't need the outside windows to break as well!

Love your videos....so informative and from an engineers logic point of view. Generally speaking, how many total hours per week do you and Sue spend filming and then editing to produce a 25-30 min video?
@OurJourneyInMyles

Many people think you can make a living as an RV RU-vidr. You can, if you are Keep Your Daydream with SUPERB production, have great looking family members and 400,000 subscribers. Every video takes at least 1.5 hours of work for every MINUTE you see on screen. For instance, if this weeks video was 25 minutes, then it took me 37 HOURS of work. We have 165 videos, have been doing this for 2.5 years, and make about $3/hour over the long haul. We do this because we are retired,…we want to document our travel,…..my wife was an Art Teacher,…...it is our hobby,…..and our passion,.......AND WE BOTH WORK ON MAKING THEM. We have $8000 to $10000 worth of computers, cameras, microphones, hard drives, etc. We spend $125/month for internet data charges for unloading. My advice: Only start a channel if it is fun for you. For almost “everyone” doing this, it is a net money looser. It really helps channels when folks REMEMBER to use the Amazon Page of their favorite channel. Nothing is better than getting the “pat on the back” from folks that go through that extra few clicks to support our efforts.

Hey Mark, I thought you did a video on "SnapPads" for your jacks. I don't see them in the vid. Did they not work out?
@OurJourneyInMyles
@OurJourneyInMyles 3 года назад
The snap pads are great! We love them, but they are in the front only. They do not make them large enough for my rear jack pad diameters. The newer model year Dutch Star pad diameters are smaller, as well as the cylinder diameter. Go figure! Not sure if you can get rear pads because the steel pad I believe has a clearance notch cut into it now??

Happy Easter! Holy crap!!! Almost $6,000!!! How much is RV insurance policy per year???
@OurJourneyInMyles
@OurJourneyInMyles 3 года назад

Your RV insurance covered the total cost of the windshield replacement? I believe you said you have Progressive ? You are happy w/ them? I'm asking bc I'm in the process of obtaining quotes for our recently purchased RV. My other question to you, you have Coach-Net also? Are you happy with that decision? I see that you make sure you are fully covered and even have duplicate coverage, nice! Thx, see you on the road.

I hear and read that storys about Good Sam Towing all the time. They will do the easy tow jobs,…..and try to wait you out so they don’t have to perform the expensive tough ones! Our insurance is $4100/year on a 2014 Newmar Dutch Star model 4369. Our 2013 Honda Odyssey is around $1200. We have very high coverage limits on everything. We feel that is what the insurance is for. We decided to pick the companies we wanted, and not the prices. We realize this is a luxury. We do not have tire coverage. Each tire was $872 when we replaced them. Remember,……...Coach-Net will NOT cover accidents. Your regular insurance will cover it all,………but are not really experts at RV towing. Use them only for accidents. You only want to use them in an accident senario to pay for whom ever the POLICE department uses. The police will use the companies they contract with. Police departments RARELY use anyone that will take any of the RV towing insurance companies, because cost is no issue for them. It's on you! Your regular policy is used to paying these charges to the police selected tow companies. So for $249/year (For Class A,B or C’s) or $179/year (For 5th wheels and trailers), I have folks involved that really know what trucks or flat beds to send out in the middle of a campground if needed. If you BOONDOCK,…….you will be on your own. All companies only allow you to be so far off of a real road. P.S.-We are not Coach-net affiliates!

Essentially no. Just basic minor stuff to get by. That ship has sailed for me,........wish I still could. I am too stiff and would hurt myself on most projects. Plus,........I have 0.00 % patience for anything going wrong now during a job! If my coach was at HOME, in a garage, while NOT traveling that would be an entirely different story. Then,....YES,.....I would do way more.

Ours cost zero because FL requires no deductible on windshield glass replacement, but you know I paid somewhere along the line! Our RV Insurance is crazy expensive.
