I'm so cross about this, I discovered the Oura a few months ago and decided to wait for the G3 as I thought it was an awesome deal and would be very useful to me as I have obstructive sleep apnoea - then I found out about the payment wall. I think $6 a month is a rip off and if you don't pay for it; you get barely anything data wise! I also think it's off that you're paying for features that aren't even available yet!

Same here. I wanted to try out this ring but no way I’m paying more to get my data. That’s shady, greedy and disgusting. That’s like buying the  WATCH and then you have to pay $6 to use their Health app. Where I am atm, the ring would cost me 314 Euros, with the Subscription I’d actually paid over 500 Euros for the ring and my data. Even the newest  WATCH 7 is cheaper and they don’t hide your own data, which belongs to you and should stay only on your Watch - I heard they send your data to their servers - and not behind a paywall.

Yes! I think Apple Watch might be the way to go. It's still a great sleep tracker, I don't think you need sleep stages to improve your overall sleep.

Do you know anything about performance for shift workers? I'm a night shift nurse and I had the whoop probably over a year ago and it wouldn't track my sleep during the day (or tracked it as a nap) because it's as if it couldn't comprehend I was sleeping for long periods of time during the day. It would also stop tracking my activity at about 4am as it also probably thought I should be in bed lol. Pretty interested in oura but not if it's going to do the same thing😕

This is not possible, the new algorithm is based on a new hardware system and their underlying hardware has been updated.

Gen2 owner here. Gen3 features are so weak imho, I might upgrade if it was 50€. On my ring I use only the nightly information, HRV, HR, breathing, recovery index, body temperature, sleep phases. If I can't get this info without a subscription the ring goes to the garbage bin. I guess it's still not known if this data will be available for free.

Can you still use your ring with all the features? I guess it won’t work to get a ring 2 (used on eBay) and then upgrade to the gen 3 to get the free subscription as there obviously was a deadline. And even if you haven’t upgraded before the deadline, that gen 2 have to pay the subscription too. ;( Öuora is a greedy company.

@@ShervinShares I did get one, a third generation ring, and it is a pretty close in data to my Fitbit Charge 5 and Apple Watch Series 7, within a 20% difference. I do think the sleep tracking is pretty spot on, and the heart rate tracking is pretty accurate. Stylistically, I do wish they had a couple more options, including some with their logo laser etched on it. As for comfort, it’s a ring. I do wish that for some sizes, that they offered 1/2 sizes, such as with the more common middle and larger sizes.

If you do decide to go with Oura Gen 3 beware, their customer service is nonexistent. I have reached out over 20 times in the last week. online and on the app (they have no phone number) I am getting the same BOT responses over and over. I even tagged them on a public Facebook post pleading for assistance from a real human. Nothing...

In the "price vs whoop" section of the video you mention "the ring battery life lasts around 2 years and then you need to purchase a new one." Does that mean just a new ring battery or a whole new oura approx every 2 years?

the overall battery life of the Oura is approx 2 years. then the Oura battery only lasts around 1-2 days because of battery degradation

approx. with any product you have battery degradation. so with the Oura, i've noticed from reading online that after 2-3 years the battery life just doesn't last the full 4-7 days

Does anyone know if oura state how long the "lifetime subscription" is? Is it true lifetime or just for the duration of gen 3

I saw Oura post this as a reply to a comment on their IG: "Lifetime Oura Membership is an exclusive, limited-time offer we’ve made available to any current Oura Ring owners, to thank them for their loyalty and being early adopters. If you have a Lifetime Oura Membership, this means that as long as you have the same, active Oura account, your Oura Membership will remain free for Gen3 and beyond."

I currently have the Gen 2 and am kinda disappointed with the direction this device seems to be going. I originally purchased the ring SPECIFICALLY for many of the features that are included within the general functions. Also I am very keen on how the app and ring work together to provide the best health like using the sleep sounds and other features… now I have to pay extra on top of the price I originally paid to purchase the ring and it’s features.??? 🤷🏼‍♂️ I for one might have just been priced out of the only real option for me as I don’t/can’t wear wrist straps etc. 😔 Bummer

I’ve heard about Gen 2 Users getting the subscription for free (lifetime) when upgrading to Gen 3 until a “deadline” ends. What will happened if the deadline ends, will gen 2 users be locked out of their data? Can you still use your ring today with all the features or do you now have to pay the fee too?

@@cdmcgillion as of today, the ring and app work just like before the release of the new ring and features. In fact I can’t even see in the app anything that’s advertised or promoted if you upgrade. 🤷🏼‍♂️ I don’t see anywhere what I would be gaining by upgrading or more importantly, missing because I couldn’t. It’s great when someone buys you a gift that the owners try and make irrelevant a short time later 🤦🏼‍♂️

I like the concept but can’t see myself paying full price for the ring then a paying a monthly subscription to use the ring. It’s like buying a new car at full price then having to pay a monthly subscription just to drive it on top of paying for insurance, gas, toll and maintenance. That’s just straight greed there!!

I have issues with my Oura ring showing sleep when not asleep and REM sleep that I know is wrong. Contacted Oura several times but they will not replace it to date. I’m so disappointed in this product.

@@ShervinShares I’m in the same boat except I got the stealth version 4 months ago (yeah I’m an idiot). To upgrade I’m paying $400+$325=$725 within a 4 month timeframe. Fuck that. Only question is how long they will support the 3 before it becomes an expensive paper weight. Feels like a total rug pull. How long will they support the v3 before they deprecate that and force you into the v4? I have zero confidence in Oura now.

I mean whoop and oura were pretty close with cost and features, nuanced differences, now oura is way more, I went with oura because I liked the nuances but not worth the extra 300 3 months later to get a free subscription to software that won't even be out for another 3 months, and when my ring dies in 8 months, woops gonna be >200 cheaper, even though I like oura better, they just priced themselves out of consideration. Prolly won't do woop either though tbh. I'll probably get a smart watch with no subscription that also does about the same thing and hope it's gonna last more than a year
