Out-of-control teens the latest problem at Long Beach apartment complex 

This is not a security problem, this is a society problem.

We must stop viewing juveniles as innocent little humans who don't know any better.

This isn't only in Long Beach. We are all suffering from an entire crop of aimless kids that see no future because they've never been shown one. Their parents are so completely self-absorbed in their own lives, and they have no clue how to be a parent. These adults are somewhat childish themselves, so we can't expect much from the kids. It's very sad.

When you make it impossible to penalize criminals, what does one expect?

People have got to stop pretending that criminals are victims of circumstance just doing their best. They are NOT! Lawlessness cannot continue!

This is what happens when there's no disciplinary actions at home and parents are not raising their children right.

I’m in a SMALL town on the east coast - SAME EXACT THING happening here - it’s insane!!! 🤬🤬 Teens ( tending to be on the younger side than older) most times on bicycles, just terrorizing citizens. Parents who use the EXCUSE that it’s “ just kids being kids” and police who don’t take it seriously bc someone hasn’t been killed YET or bc property damage isn’t “excessive” has CONTRIBUTED GREATLY to this problem. Just OUTRAGEOUS

You don't need Armed Guards. You need Armed Citizens willing to protect their lives and property.

Holding people accountable for their actions disproportionately affects people who need to be held accountable for their actions.

This country is a mess. We can't go on like this indefinitely.

For people wondering where the parents are: they’re either out doing the same felonious things or they’re currently in jail for it. This behavior is generational; it doesn’t come from a simple lack of education or “boredom”.

If the management refuses to provide a safe environment for the tenants, then they should all collectively withhold their rent until something is done about these hooligans!

That’s insane. They shouldn’t have to beg for help. This is why we have police. At the very least for what they are paying, security guards should be provided.

This is why you keep those types of people out of your neighborhood.

Teenagers who are criminals have parents who are criminals. It's time to put the parents in line and spread some accountability. But then again, this is CA.

These incidents keep happening because there allowed to happen. The teenagers know they’re in control, instead of property management, which is a shame because ladies, sometimes elderly ladies are being attacked. Why are those teenagers allowed to just hang around the outside of this apartment building & allowed inside? Management needs to protect these tenants.

So happy California knows that the teens just need to be able to express themselves. It would be terrible if the teens feelings got hurt by holding them accountable. They will grow out of it and it'll be okay.

Look at the laws of California, and you wonder why things like this happen, you get what you vote for

We were getting a tour at the apartments like 2 years ago and some teens pulled the fire alarm and then took off on skateboards, my husband and I overheard that the cops can’t do anything so we knew that moving to the area was a bad idea 🤷🏼‍♀️ that really sucks for the residents

Imagine paying $3000-4000/month for rent and not being able to go out because its unsafe. Its like a miniature version of San Francisco.

Our administration has demonstrated that there’s no consequences for people who commit crimes in California or around the country!

"teenagers" they will never come out and say what the problem really is. Its not their age, its their genetics. Also, why should it matter more or be worth saying that they are 'luxury' apartments? Are they someone more important? We shouldn't have to live around dangerous animals regardless of income or cost of rent.

Same people, different crime. What a terrible culture of violence and crime. The weakest link in America.

Unfortunately I fear that nothing will be done until one of these "poor dears" is injured by a resident who is simply protecting himself. That's when all hell will break loose and said resident will likely be the one punished.

This is an increasing problem all over Australia - mainly in the cities but our larger towns also have out-of-control teens causing mayhem. Parenting is a lost art in many of our suburbs, but it's not limited to people struggling to make ends meet - there seems to be a culture that pushes kids to steal cars and act as if they are playing Grand Theft Auto.

It's not just at the place they are speaking of. It's a complete society failure. I live in a very small town in the Midwest. The kind of town that nothing happens that is new but the last 3 years have been complete torture due to kids. We had to stop putting any sort of yard furniture or decorations out. Our local parks got destroyed by kids who intentionally broke everything. I even confronted the neighbors about what one of the kids did and showed them footage and the parents even acted like the child still did nothing wrong. Society is just strait up backwards nowadays

I'm grateful that California lawmakers have been directing their efforts toward important initiatives, such as the ban on gas lawn mowers, not things like making our streets safer 👌

And yet they want YOU to be unarmed…the system is completely broken in California

This is a direct result of the soft laws, these criminals know that nothing will happen if they get caught. Don't hold your breath waiting for anything to change

This is what happens when you rent 20-30% of the units as section 8 housing. In LA its done with most the new apartment complexes

You can laugh at us people living in small towns but we know how to deal with this kind of behavior. That's probably why we don't have these problems here.

Wow...when we were "unruly" teenagers in the 70's, the worst we would do is T.P. people's houses the night before Halloween. Our society, yours and mine is degrading at a fast pace.

But don't dare defend yourself or your property or you'll be the one getting arrested and thrown in jail. This is what happens when there are zero consequences to being a thug.

We have the same problem in Greece, too. Lack of education and culture is the primary cause of juvenile delinquency, both in children and parents.

This is what happens when criminal acts are not met with true consequences. The same happens all around the world, here in Europe also. And it's becoming a nightmare for all those behaving properly. We should show in schools how they approach the matter in China...

Parents need to start parenting, PERIOD!! The problem will never go away until parents start doing their job. I wish my kids would. They wouldn't be sitting down for weeks. No respect, morals, empathy, or compassion are being instilled in these kids now a days.The moment someone defends themselves and takes one of these punks out. The parents will be screaming that he was such a good kid, why??

At this point these people are no longer troubled teens..but criminals and deserve the full force of the law....

Curious how an adult who fights back and injures one of these thugs in training would be treated by the criminal justice system. The teens are counting on helpless victims who can’t do a thing to stop them and a system that won’t hold them accountable.

Our schools tell children that their society is not worth respecting. What else can you expect?

This is awful, these individuals are not concerned with consequences. Prison has become a joke, IF they are even caught. The mother's, aunts, grandmother's enabling that behavior and cheering them on, and we get stuck with them.

I saw a video of a cheese steak shop that is located in Philly. The place is so popular that they usually have a line around the block. The owner decided to hire armed guards outside to protect the people in line, but this apt complex can't be bothered to, but they sure can collect the outrageous rent!!!

Need to call animal control so they can bring some cages

I lived they for 6 months. Was paying 2800 a month in rent... My son's got into a fight with some of the kids that just roam around there that do not live there they just walk in break in still stuff vandalize... My son knocked out one of the three kids...my son was arrested..and held for three weeks..my was 16 at the time... The other kids were released within an hour... They charge my son with bodily injury... Pain management had us kicked out... When I asked the prosecutor why my son was charged with bodily injury.. it is because my son was the only one that gave his address and correct.. the other kids gave fake names and fake addresses so they could not follow and prosecute

Stand your ground laws needed.

Age shouldnt be a restriction either. Old enough to do the crime, old enough to do the time.

If your paying thousands of dollars on rent to live in a luxury apartment the Realestate Agency running the place should be providing tenants with top notch security and have CCTV cameras everywhere instead of cutting corners and just collecting the rent. People pay top dollar for security and safety and its not being provided. Also why hasn't Long Beach PD tried to mitigate the problem?

The lady that said they need armed guards is spot on. Time to hire retired or off duty police officers who can make arrests. These teens are beyond disrespectful & menacing.

The 'trend' of building luxury condo 'islands' in trouble areas has started about 10-15 years ago. I knew this was not a good idea. But it was lucrative to developers and apparently there was enough buyers, who were willing to ignore the dangers.

The teens that you see is the future of America.

I used to hang around Birmingham UK streets as a kid . A group of 5-7 kids out till 4am most nights and not once did we ever attack / trouble randoms. We always respected random people because we was told by parents that if we get in trouble go to nearest house door/ person for help.. Also the police would be all over anyone attacking civilians.

The residence needs to get together and discus on how to hire a bunch of foot patrols walking in groups. Your own personal police for hire! a deterrent so to speak. This looks like war.

Residents should untie together and petition the apt complex to remove the amenities fee from their rent. That will get the Hoa or Co-op board some motivation
