Thank you, this is the first review of this product and it clarifies everything that Ubiquity doesn't explain in its promotional videos and documentation (which one?). I have already installed the Hub + the UA G2 Pro. Yesterday I ordered 2 Intercom Viewers that became available for a few hours
I have a project I am looking at rolling these out on, the intercom, viewers and several door locks. Testing out a quick setup of a UNIFI access on a server room door as a test case first ;)
Hey, thank you so much for this video demonstration. I'm looking into placing 4 of these viewers in 4 flats, I understand they'll need to be connected to a Ubiquiti PoE switch. But just wondering if you think it's possible to cut the cable and have an wireless solution? I.e. Viewer still connects via ethernet cable with power, but it ends with some sort of adapter than transmits wirelessly into the switch device whom has the receiver? Trying to avoid cutting up walls to put cat6 cable inside an old victorian house
Good question. You could use a Powerline adapter and use that to link the rooms together, or another wireless bridge solution. It is certainly possible to make it work in the fashion you want.
When you have more than one intercom (hopefully in the future also supporting the G4 doorbell pro) does it work with the same viewer? Or do you really have to attach a viewer (or more) to a specific intercom?
Good question. You can have multiple viewers linked to a single device or even multiple devices. So 1 intercom and several viewers connected to that same intercom. I hope this helps.
Do you know if the update came out so we can use a G2 Pro intercom with the Viewers? Also could i connect 3 viewers to one system? The design would be. A guest pushes 1 of 2 G2 Pro intercom buttons and all 3 viewers in the business ring as well as the app on phones. Thanks for this great video.
Good question. From the Ubiquiti site "Intercom Viewers can also receive doorbell calls from the G2 Reader Pro." Yes you can also assign a number of viewers to a UA-Hub so therefore all will ring when the Hub receives a call, or you can join a single viewer to multiple UA-Hubs and so as a result it can be activated by a number of different readers / intercoms. I hope this helps
after directory opens , then you choose on tochscreen or keypad? we only have 2 "apartments" would be great to simply display those on the screen all the time
You choose the option by touching the apartment name on the directory list. To activate the directory the caller first needs to push the doorbell ring button. This then gives the caller the directory list to choose from. This is how it works in the current firmware.
I have to admit I didn't think about that. On the Chime you have a slider for the volume. On the next batch through I will have a check and let you know
could the viewer be used only to unlock the door, i.e. without the intercom module? In my setup I would have a UA hub connected to the door lock and a G3 bullet. The door bell would be third party, but the strike lock would be connected to the UA hub and ideally unlocked via the viewer which would display the video of the G3 on demand
Good question. In theory you can use the viewer to unlock a door attached to an UA hub without the need for the Intercom. The only thing you can’t do (pretty sure anyway) is display the output from the G3 bullet to the viewer. At the moment that is still controlled by UniFi protect and UniFi access. I hope this helps your research further.
@@The_Tech_Geeks hi, as it stands, the viewer forces you to pair it with an intercom. I bought one, but it would not allow me to use it without the intercom. Support told me they might add the feature in future releases of Protect.
Thanks for the great review. It's a great system and almost perfect. The only thing that it doesn't do is a way to access say a gate to open if you're driving up to it. It's a bit fiddly to have to wind the window down day off it's raining out so, pull out the phone and go into the app. It's there anyway that this can happen?
Good point! I believe there may be a gate solution coming, but not sure how it will work or whether it will meet you requirements, but one to watch out for.
Thank you for your Video! It tells more than any promotion or "documentation" by Ubiquiti. Since the product is new and often not in stock, there are nearly no reviews or user reports online. Can you tell me (or test therefore) if the Intercom, the viewers and the Access Hub keep working when you disconnect the Dream Machine / Cloud Key? I'm afraid of what's happening if this product falls out of support, will the existing setup keep working (of course without the mobile app) and if I have to keep a DM/CK with installed Access software running when using the system locally (only viewers and Intercom). Im curious if the Access software on the device is only necessary for initial setup, configuration, video recording and usage of mobile app OR if it's also necessary to be running in order to operate the essential functions (ringing, viewing and opening). I would appreciate if you can disconnect the DM/CK and check if the functions keep running. Of course it has to be powered using a separate PoE switch and IP-addresses should remain the same.
Great question. As far as I am aware the system needs the OS Console to do the auth, ie what do I do if the door entry is pushed. I believe to do anything with the door (ua hub) the request has to flow though the OS Console. I will see if I can test over the next few weeks to be sure
@@The_Tech_Geeks that would be great! But regarding the prices for other systems (e.g. Gira or Siedle) I tend to get the Unifi system for half of the price including a gateway. I want to keep my OPNsense even wenn getting a UDM (Pro/SE)
the problem is this intercom and the viewers won’t work in a house unless you are only going to have one viewer. i don’t believe there’s the ability to ring a name in the directory (or hit the doorbell) and have it call all of the viewers through your house. Ideally i’d like to have my family’s names in the directory then a guest pushes the name of the person they want and then all the viewers in the house will ring along with the access app on that specific family members phone (like a call group). till that happens this will be hard to use in a home since guests will have to guess which room im in to call the right viewer.
Good question. You can have multiple viewers linked to a single UA-Intercom and they can all ring. You can also have individual users in the system that just have the app on their phone and these can be treated differently. As a result you should be able to create a system where you can list everyone in the directory (their unique app login) and then the viewers linked to the main Intercom and achieve what you want. We are just putting a video together at the moment that answers around 30 or so of the questions we have had like this and it should be available in a few weeks time.
Good question. If you have the Unifi Access app installed on your smart device, then you will get alerts wherever you have data coverage and as long as you have allowed the app to alert while you are on a data (ie 4g network)
Looking for all the viewers to simultaneously ring when the doorbell was pushed once, and any person at any of the viewers could be the one to answer the ring.
are you sure that this works? i was speaking to the company and they said that wasn’t a feature? would love to see a video about the viewers being able to ring together !
