Just talking about how the 80’ 90’s country was probably one of the best times for this genre. Everyone sounded different and you knew exactly who was singing. Versus today we can’t tell which Luke os singing…etc….ha! Best of Times!
She is one of the prettiest women in Country Music and this is arguably one of her best recordings. I find myself turning it up every time it comes on Prime Country.

What do you mean was? I just left her concert here at Chattanooga's Songbirds museum less than three hours. Suzy Bogguss is still absolutely beautiful!! I met her for the 5th time after the show and she is so nice, friendly and kin d. She even remembered the last two we'd met too. I gave her a Christmas album jacket to sign, to looked at it, then looked back and said, "You were at my concert two years ago when I played Riverbend, weren't you?" I smiled and said, "I sure was!" and we talked for a few minutes while she was signing some of the things I'd brought with me. Her husband, Doug was taking the pictures and he's also just as nice and as friendly as can be. And it's indescribable being able to hold a woman this beautiful in my arms.
Early 90s was a special time in country music. Suzy Bogguss, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Billy Dean, Brooks & Dunn, Garth, LeAnn Rimes, Aaron Tippin, Lorrie Morgan, just so many great artists in that early 90s time. Suzy looks so great in this, great song.
Not just good... when it was authentic. It was being rapidly replaced by plastic, formulaic, simplistic, one dimensional garbage when the few songs, writers, singers like this one were recording. Within a few years it would be a mass produced, production line, product oriented commodity. It seems every single comment here laments the loss of authentic artistry. It matters not what style music - this sad thing has polluted, distorted and mangled almost all popular music that's new. Luckily, a new generation will discover the past triumphs and flush the crap even if it means forming "garage bands" to do it...

I believe there are some great modern players. Modern songwriting is weak as well as are modern producers. They have too many shortcuts available with modern production. Cheers

I never cared too much for country music, even though I was forced to listen to a country station at a store where I worked. The first time I heard her voice, singing 'Letting Go' I was hooked.
This lady is awesome! I've interviewed her, on a couple of occasions, and each time, she left me with the feeling of, "Gee, I wish we could've had another 30 minutes. So under-rated! Wonderful talent!

She and her hubby came in for a show at one of our best, intimate venues two years ago, and I did an interview with her. Back in the '90's, I did my show from Nashville during Fan Fair, and she was a guest. Very nice lady.
Her eyes are SO expressive! She's a great musician, she both writes great songs and has excellent taste in picking songs by other artists. She had such an outstanding group of musicians working with her on this album. But DAMN, she is absolutely GORGEOUS! But most of all -- those eyes!
I was sorting through my late stepfather's CD collection some 10 years ago and found Suzy. She has the kind of voice that makes you feel comfortable, she also happens to be the kind of lady you would love to take home to meet your parents! I keep this in my garage and play it when l feel self indulgent. A very underrated and extremely talented lady.
I just saw Suzy with Kathy Mattea at the Kentucky Opry. Those women belted out their hits, sang their hearts out, and their comedy routines were hilarious.

She got extra credits during the summers and graduated a year early to get out of high school. She was a pretty girl too, just poor. Oh, bye the way I've always liked that name a lot (Julie or Julia). If I had had a girl I wanted to give her that name. I've got 2 boys. Anyway, about Suzy, she is a very nice person. I've met her twice at two of her shows that I went to. She always had meet and greets after the show (don't know if she still does since covid) and my wife and I met her and her husband, Doug. We talked for a while and they let us get pictures together. She also signed my special made "Suzy" shirt and a few of my cd's that I bought and brought. I saw her at the Castle Theater in Bloomington and also in Virginia (that's where my sister lives) at Louisa. I just wondered if you may have know her family. Didn't have time to ask her about it, but I wanted to ask her how her father let her take off and head west bye herself to do gigs. Seems it could've been a little dangerous for her. I'm from Illinois too, but not by Aledo.
@@markmacdonald8512 Sorry about the delay. I’m working as a missionary in northern Kenya and most of the time we have no internet….or phone. Pretty remote but the ministry is awesome and worth it. I never met her father and we weren’t close friends, she was just always nice to me and worked at the local Tastee Freez a couple times with me. She was always so personable and I recall thinking she was someone to look up to. Popular but not a mean person. I think her parents let her go because they knew she was much too big for Aledo…….like me, we knew the world was out there and sitting in a dead end town was not the future. I left not long after high school and joined the Army. Small town America is marvelous…..but not Aledo, Illinois.
Her CD Aces was one of my first ever CD'S My boyfriend at the time bought me a 5 disc CD system that connected to my receiver 🤣🤣 he also got a McBride and the ride CD also. 💜💜💜I loved listening to crystal clear music for the first time. Up until then, I only listened to cassettes 🤣🤣 this brought back some good memories 😍😍 Thank you RU-vid 😊 😁😁
She was a FOX! I'm 44 now and this brings me back to my teenage years. She was so underrated with one of the best voices of the 90's. Her and Trisha Yearwood and Holly Dunn.
I loved Suzy Bogguss. Fabulous voice and so darn cute. So personable. Those huge brown eyes. Suzy was no overnight success by any means. she had two albums prior to "Aces" that were pretty much ignored by Country Radio. This song made it to Number 1 on the R&R Radio and Records Magazine chart. Thanks much for mentioning Holly Dunn who passed away a few years ago of Cancer. I loved Holly too. She was hugely underrated and never got the recognition she deserved. Her career never really recovered after the controversy over the "Maybe I Mean Yes" video in 1991. Don't forget Lari White who we lost to cancer in 2018. I loved her so much and as far as I'm concerned, every one of her albums were good enough to be Muli-Platinum, but she never got that kind of push from Radio. And like Holly her momentum was stalled over the complaints from mental health groups over her Video to the song "Wild At Heart" both would have been huge hits for them respectively if not for this nonsense. If they had just made a different sort of video maybe things would have gone very differently.
Young folks these days think they are so progressive but the music of today totally sucks when compared to my generation and music speaks volumes to a state of a society...........

Man I had a crush on her when I was in high school in the early 90's! I was friends with a girl that was almost a dead ringer for Suzy. Her music reminds me so much of working at my first job- a little grocery store out here in flyover country. The musak station (broadcast by the grocery wholesaler like at most grocery stores) played country hits of the 80's and 90's. Good times, great music:-)
It is the iconic piano riff that takes this version from a mere song and elevates it to a work of art. This is the best version of the song - and I'm a big fan of both Tom Russell and Nanci Griffiths. The only problem is they need to take that final piano riff and build on it for another 3 minutes. The Piano Guys would do justice to this song, but it is probably too old and obscure for them to do it. Wish some other talented pianist would take it and run with it. The lyrics are too good and the piano work too incredible to let die. I first heard this version while doing my laundry on a day off over 20 years ago and CMTV was on. Though I was dismissive toward country music at the time, but I was blown away by this song and thought - here is real talent, real skill, and real artistry. I've never grown tired of this song, and wish it would get more attention.
When this came out I was in the middle of a romantic breakoff I neither understood nor could make sense of. It got me through and I sang the chorus with gusto and desperately tried to learn the verses just by listening to the radio. I never hear who freakin' sang it let alone who wrote it, or even the correct title. I am NOT a fan of "country music" so I only heard it on the pop channels. I wouldn't have thought it IS country music. As such, I didn't know how or where to look once it disappeared from the play lists for good. I have spent years looking for it. About 6 mos. ago I found it on youtube. There have been other instances where I needed it, times when I've quoted it to explain the feelings in it that have also been mine. Finally seeing Suzy Boggus perform it - she's perfect for me. I feel what she brings to the song is exactly what I would if I were performing it and she will always be in my head as I hear it. I'm so thrilled to have it where I can access it now! Some things are worth keeping. OH, and the piano riff is to die for.

this will always be my all time favorite suzy bogguss song. i fell in love with this song and this artist when i was 9 years old. she has continued to surprise me thru her music and her big heart. i will forever be a fan.

Saw Suzy last month in Heber City, Utah. My daughter bought me a ticket for my birthday. I have loved Suzy for thirty years, I was not disappointed with her concert, fantastic concert. Still love her even more.

Which is the hometown of my favorite singer of all time, Linda Ronstadt, they call her the queen of rock, but Linda actually fits in the same genres as Suzy quite well.Keep on carrying the tune Suzy and thank you for music!
This song made me a Suzy Boggus fan! It was actually written by Nanci Griffith. I like her style. Its a very Folky style of Country music that had a revamped sound in the early 1990s.
Most good bands in the 90s, the alt-rock bands I listened to as a teenager, had one song that would absolutely be considered country by the standards set by 90s country artists. I used to joke that country and rock sometimes intertwined and it could be classified as “crock” and if god forbid country ever crossed with rap it would be classified as “crap”. I never thought for a second that day would actually come, but so called country today is, in fact, complete crap. Good thing for RU-vid that we can still access gems like this one. Love Suzy!
