The original Outcast was so ahead of its time, it blew my mind back then. This way too late sequel will probably fly over the radar of most people, but I will certainly go back to Adelpha finally.
Definitely ahead of its time. I always thought its structure of four lands you explore in almost any order carrying out quests to weaken the main enemy before launching a final assault on the palace was an amazing idea and we're finally seeing it get some impact now that Zelda used it.
Outcast 1999 was so good , in story , graphics , music , and gameplay over all.I really love the world building. Its like watching Stargate move , but also playing it
You guys are gaming journalists and haven't even played the original? If you took the time to research you'd at least acknowledge that there was a remake of the first game which came out for last-gen systems, which I imagine is also playable on current-gen platforms. It only takes a few minutes to look it up on Wikipedia. The first game was also one of the pioneers to use an orchestrated score.
Frustrating to hear two people who never played the original trying to talk about the original. Its not some impossible to find obscurity. It's on GOG, it had a semi remake a couple years ago.
@@MrCoopdog96 That is not right, it is a sequel, they just dropped 2 from the title in order to not scare away potential buyers that would thought that you need to play the original in order to understand the story of this new game.
The first wasn't even an ordinary open world, since you could go to almost every region pretty much from the get go and chose what you wanted to do first. That freedom talking about story missions was amazing.
the original was using voxel tech as one of the first games ever aside from comanche titles, it was a milestone in gaming industry and a breakthrough visually. the remake was done and shipped a couple of years ago. i am a bit disappointed that as gaming journalists you haven't figured that out, be at least a bit more prepared. if i was the developer who still is Appeal and its a miracle that they kept that studio alive, i would be kinda sad about having journalists playing this without having any infos or done any proper research. Outcast belongs to gaming history and represented one of the biggest technical leaps back in the days. i have been a real fan of your channel guys but this basically shows some sort of journalistic disinterest or lazyness.
I’ll just throw this out there: The new Avatar game does indeed let you run around Pandora as a Na’avi. Don’t get me wrong, the game has some issues. But if that’s all you want from an Avatar game, it delivers.
I will be playing this on day one, definitely within my wheelhouse. Avatar is actually a pretty great game and you need to spend more than an hour exploring the world. It most definitely has some of the best graphics of the previous year, Ubisoft game get an unreasonable amount of hate from fanbases' that don't know how much time and effort it takes to create massive open world games.
Outcast is about the story. The gameplay fits the style of the game> Also yes you had a jet pack in the original one but it only lasted a few seconds allowing you to float for awhile. One of my favorite games of all time.
Yeah, this was an amazing game back in the 90s, also played on PC and I also platinum the PS4 version which was a remaster of the original Outcast, a couple of years ago. I cannot wait for this to come out! First Flashback 2 and now Outcast 2, I never thought I would live to see those two games get sequels. Bring it in!
systemshock even robocop got new game. ps4 xbox one version its remake. not way to remaster 97 version. it was on steam orginal version remaster 1.01 something. this game basicly re remake. there is also another game coming around that time. project igi 3. it was a budget mgs like pc game.
Man, it's over, that game is already fd, remember when Bethesda gave you flying tech in Skyrim and you were like' whoaaaa" but it was only hovering over a certain area not the full map, yeah, that's the Bethesda flying tech you'll get.
They were gonna make a sequel to the original 1999 game but the company that developed it Appeal went bankrupt... Lookong forward to this but I need to play "Outcast: Second Contact" first.
ı blaive orginal game squel ps2 xbox have protatype someting but not found yet. there is also nocturne 1999 terminal reality game dreamcast protaype. need to found like half life. last year unkown xbox game protaypes found canbe outcast 2. it was a dinasour game charater looklike outcast.
otucast and nocturne game was way ahead of time. outcast vs gta3 comen gta3 was a phone game compared the that game. you have vr vision to show planet surfaces like termiantor vison like information that game. Nocturne game aslo it was alan wake 2 like game that time. way better than any pathatic resdient evil and slient hill games that time. graphicly nocturne game terminal reaility game is some espect better than alan wake 2 still for example blood physics. blood was trace and drop on walls. shadow and light use look like ray tracing that time. outcast supose to come xbox and nocturne supose to come dreamcast but they never did like half life dreamcast port. both game not relases console efffect game world dramaticly. left the open world kingdom to rocstar and bethesda and survival horror kingdom to capcom konami. there were open world games before of course like bethesda skynet game. outcast was more open world than those. think like starfield planets. both outcast and nocturne spcial thing about that game is they look like movie tone. outcast looks like sci fi movie exatcly like avatar bcouse maybe first game use heavly voice with cinematics.not fmv inside game. nocturne was like horror movie tone it felt like x files episodes playing that game bcouse depends real locations and event. not just zombie game like resident evil. both game actualy win pc graphics awards on magazines over games like quake 3 and haf lifes. and both game have demos. still console world espicaly on today sitting on playstations write to history. can you imagine both game not metacritic score. they dont know sega saturn or dreamcast games too but they even not heard these games. its not learning new history of gaming its learning shame history. ı can say outcast was like cyberpunk level game that time and nocturne was alan wake 2 that time witn better gameplay. comparing 2020 medium next gen only game with 1999 nocturne side by side nocturne look better.
Never played nocturne when it came out. Heard it was quite buggy but entertaining. Think I maybe played a demo. Do you know if you can still play it on current computers, in my case just a job computer with intel graphics, no fancy gaming computer 😞
@@JohanAndre-bo4lt yes demo and game work on windows 10. modern pc handle game quite easy. it was not buggy atleast demo. nocturne infact have 3 demo. very generous final game around 12level. magazine usually give zombie town demo which best level in game but demo end when entering mines. zombie town demo is texas town its realitsc locations like others. demo also support cheat. normaly only pistols shovel and shutgun available on demo but cheats "winblows" unlock all weapons". nocturne demo that time my most played game even more than full games. found full game on net much later and orginal game on music store cc oddly it was in the nocturnal named music cds lol. nocturne of course was heavy when out even not work good on decent pcs. bug means that ı think. game not have bugs its techincal masterpiece but gameplay very hardcore. bcouse camera angels changes not like re and slient hill. it tricks you. reviews found this aspect bad but it was quite cinmatic look for the game. most annoying thing noctunre ı think mouse support almost none. you should play keyboard only and each hand focus auto aim to enmey. each hand pistol shot diffretnly. its not typcal residen evil player gameplay. ı tryed outcast demo of course too that time and that was really heavy to run. terminal reaily shutdown now company named ziggurnats relase some terimnal reailtiy games on morden consoles like bloodrayne and terminal velocity. but no nocturne yet. nocturne not even on gog. demo on net of course open to try. other 2 demo diffretn levels little hard to find. there is also noctunre level editor which open source can make new levels etc ı have it on dvd dont know on net now. in time ı becoem nocturne researcher. ı leaned dreamcast copy planned but prottaype not found yet. ı learn noctunre tv series planned even shot some smilar to xfiles but not on net. smilar to game oppenning real time cinematics. the alone in the dark new nightmare some evil dead game and blair witch trilogy games uses nocturne engine. it was engine more than game smilart to quake engine that time. as impressive engine not used too much. and oddly slient hill 2 ps2 game become fame. nocturne engine superior to slient hill 2 and doupt playstation 2 play nocturne well. nocturne also as game not reviewed goodly. best revilew of game on imdb user revilew. which touch dracula book inspirations other horror movie inspires etc. ı try to talk nocturne some of youtubers have the game like LGR and metaljesus rock they not reviewed game. ı ask about digital foundary john on live he said know the game but not haved. avgn also love early horror movies and play odd games. ı think he love nocturne but he not review pc games mostly.
@@JohanAndre-bo4lt you need to make nocturne exe winxp compatable on options. there is also modern crack but normal game works that way and demo. demo around 120mb. its not big to try . it was biggest sized demo that day of course.
Compared to the amazingly fluid aerial movement, the combat looks stiff. The environments are decent, especially the swampy jungle. The open coast looks barren. I wish they'd have showcased something other than zipping around for 15 minutes straight. Like at least do something in the context of a mission.
I love Game Informer, have been a fan since the 90s and the magazine era, but the previewer Kyle seemed to REALLY struggle to say his opinion until nearly 11 minutes in. It's okay to say this game is really rough and needs a lot of work but has some promise.
Elex did jet packs. It needs some polish for sure and I hope armor is cool because what elex lacked in beauty it made up for in awesome armor and choices. But I hope this doesn’t end up like elex if that makes any sense
We need a spiritual successor to Star Wars bounty hunter like this. Many missed opportunity’s for Star Wars or Star Wars like games that will hopefully come to light in the coming years
FFS ... play the original before doing this review, will yah ? Also, stop saying "like" so many times... learn to put some sentences together without "like"
Why is showing nothing but insect -slaying. 10:35 He hints of world building and aspects of the game that he thought it would be appropriate to skip over completely .
I don't wanna see any spoilers so for me insects slaying is good enough. But to present it for some one that has not played the original it seems like a disservice to only show the action parts because what made the original great was the mix between adventure and action in an open world.
It's kinda silly to say that Outcast is the first open world game. Maybe the first modern style open world game, but there were open world games on Atari like Raiders of the Lost Ark and even the first Legend of Zelda is an open world game,
It was the first 3D open world, not some shitty 2D game that was a lot easier to make, also open world means a lot more than just going back on yourself
At the 11-minute mark, he had missed the glossary mechanic, which tells you what the words mean. Also, the gameplay is very early on, so it fails to show off any of the games' potential. This review also does not show any of the environmental impact mechanics the game says it offers. This concerns me because the game is a week away from release, but no review has shown off this feature in any way. For a game that's 70 dollars, I'm worried it's not going to deliver.
The fact that it isn't sepia toned and bland already sets it up but then the jetpack is just chefs kiss. Hopefully it has some banging story cuz the combat is so lackluster
@@nailinthefashion It's an action game but I don't think this is a game to play for the combat challenge or anything like that. The core of the game is the lovingly crafted alien world with deep lore, lovable characters, it's own properly crafted alien language and probably a great story although we don't know too much about that, yet. The devs haven't come back to this 25 years later because they wanted to recreate the great gameplay mechanics from '99 but because they wanted to visit the world they crafted one more time.
@@mangabuddy I get that but spamming 1 button to shoot those lil alien bats isn't gonna garner a new audience when Avatar does exactly what you described but better combat lol Only fans of the original are gonna revisit this and that's fine but the gaming industry is spinning their wheels and this doesn't help
@@nailinthefashion I have mostly avoided Avatar but it doesn't seem that deep to me. I do think that Outcast will get the combination of fun and depth of the lore right but I am a hardcore fan of the original so I might certainly have too much trust in the team. We'll have to wait and see about gameplay depth I guess.
If you like free jetpack flying, try ELEX 2. Great RPG with a decent-sized map. It's definitely AA Eurojank, but that's all PiranhaBytes games. Worth trying! I love all their games.
I don't think the game will break even in terms of sales, the gameplay looks incredibly boring and the world is empty, I hope it won't be a typical "ubisoft style" open world game
Ah the console peasants who think the first open world game was GTA3... Uh the PC has had amazing open world games since the early 90's... Especially in the rpg genre...
Traversal and Flying looks alright, but fighting gameplay looks aweful. Enemies are looking like weird things flying and they don't attack properly. I am gonna skip this one.
If you are looking for a combat focused game, maybe you should, but Outcast has a lot of other things to offer, like deep lore and a lovingly crafted living open world. If you have any interest in things like that, maybe take a second look, because those things were not really shown in the video.
Them absolutely roasting the way white people name their kids was so funny. Cutter, River, Hunter, Sky, it never ends lol I'd be happy if i got a stereotypically black name like You'neek or Royultea though
@@JohanAndre-bo4lt honestly it still sounds cool to me haha. It's better than a John Smith or random letters strung together for uniqueness imo. There's a time and place for cheese and action games is one of the best to me
@@JustinBallard117 I don't really know Destiny. From the screenshots, those games look a bit generic to me with some impressive designs but I don't like the muted colors and the world feels a bit empty and dead. But that might not do them justice, I don't know. I think Outcast looks mostly lovingly designed, has a very well working colorful unique style, and the villages and world feel well populated. On the technical side, the graphics are certainly not revolutionary but absolutely fine.
О! Really cool! Big, really beautiful world. But empty, very empty. What's it for?! To be! Yeah, it'll be fun to run around for an hour or two, but then?! Then what?! But one thing's for sure, it'll get boring fast. The game comes out in March! At the moment, it looks boring.
I keep hearing:"It's like the main character is like a father like on an alien planet. And I like how it's like that other game like flying around like an eagle, that's so cool. Like, like, like-like-like-like." The vocabulary of adults has seriously hit rock-bottom since 2020! I dislike this video!! 😖
your comment is the reason why AAA games cost $100M+ to develope ... this has a tighter budget probably $50Mil max as such they focused on what matters: gameplay and hopefully story
@@ulrichleukam1068 If you think to have high end graphics for game or gameplay needs 100 millions dollars than you are the most stupid person on earth 😁 have nice day
Because the moron making the video decided to show nothing but insect slaying. 10:35 He hints of world building and aspects of the game that he thought it would be appropriate to completely skip over.
Back in 1999 it was totally fine, if you had the hardware. Back then all games required a bit more patience and attention. If you pick the original up today and are used to a lot of handholding, it might not work as well for you.
@@MsLoleg The video doesn't showcase any of that but they try to create a much different nonlinear but meaningful mission structure and I think it might be pretty awesome if it works out.
It's sort of on purpose because it's kind of a parody on old scifi comics. But it's also not quite true, the game world has very deep lore and the Talan people even have their own language. That's why the developers and fans urgently wanted this sequel 25 years later.
