This video has recently been the source and fuel for a hate campaign towards me. But I want to tell you all that this review of the BWBA movie is outdated. Not everything I say in this video I hold up to this day and I AM trying to sound less angry in my future videos as I am in this one. Some people can change a little after 5 years. My real question is why someone-I-won’t-name decided to call me out for this video, now, 5 years later, when I have done a re-review of the movie in my final Thom-tober video? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tTRRoOzaxWg.htmlsi=2cHsP2JMYfJn3Yt5 Skip to that specific re-review in it’s Chapter list. This is all I’ll say about the topic, but for now, I apologised for my tone, anger and overreacting towards this movie. My anger mainly derives from my love and long-lasting passion on the Thomas franchise. But honestly, it’s people like I-won’t-name-them-here that make me want to stop, give up and delete everything I’m doing on the Internet.
well uh can you at least apologize to your audience for insulting them because you approached to your people about the requests they gave you in such a arrogant matter? sometimes, it's best to just you know delete everything in your channel since apparently you don't appreciate the stuff you put out. oh, and i see that you wanted to end your life at that in a couple of videos. dude nobody wants you to end your life, we like genuinely want you to have a positive outlook on your future and shit. samaritans should be able to help you out on your mental health problems.
Its honestly ok really, many people really get angry on so many things, like me back then I was in the Thomas wiki, and many people with other different shows and RU-vidrs, I can totally understand
As “someone I won’t name” I humbly apologize for this. I just decided to put on the video for fun for live tweeting and it spiraled out of control with me and many others realizing what stuff you done. I should have stopped when I did
@@WaksWorld05 I accept the apology, but I just hope stuff like this never happens again, no matter how heated and dated my opinions are in these old videos of mine.
@@JamesAWilliams Outdated or not, you perfectly encapsulated how much people hate this movie, and the following years to come, that would have Mattel treat Thomas & Friends with such apathy and a complete disregard of Awdry's Golden Rule about Train Engine Realism, and all because the notion of Thomas & Friends was challenged by people who don't understand why the Railway Series worked the way it was (especially when shows like Chuggington would make bold claims of wanting to be the "Better Thomas").
Kids are supposed to love this trash. So I tried it on my twin cousins( 7 years old), and one of my other cousins(4 years old). As for the result, they hate it.
Toby is not replaced you realize that right and also Henry and Edward are not replaced they are just no longer at those sheds even though you won't no longer see them in the show
JBS:HiSB was the one time I saw fans claim they can do better than the original and actually _do it._ Maybe I haven't looked far enough, but I'm content with that.
Let me tell you, this is one Thomas movie I NEVER planned on watching. You're a brave man for enduring this whole movie. I've sit through unbearable shit many times, and even I was wise enough to avoid this. Thanks, man!
@@sebastianfranklinshaw9718 I honestly thought it was just going to be laughably bad and not this mind rapingly bad. If anything, I liked the concept, but it would've been better if it was just Thomas, Percy, Toby as the stars and not Thomas and Nia. Like the story should've been The Fat Controller sending the trio to Russia for some foreign exposition of the theory of trains and he would've come with them too to present them, but in getting back home they would have to travel through Belarus to France in order to get back to Sodor where the movie would've just been them talking about life in general on the Island of Sodor, the crashes, the accidents, the queen's visit. Most of the shit from the past.
@@buzzytrombone4353 I dunno. I didn't get bored like I couldn't handle Kung Fu Panda 3 with the boring and was wishing I'd bought the backlit kindle to read even my kid got bored as hell with Kung Fu Panda but I could concentrate on BWBA. I got frustrated with Thomas being a complete assh**e to Nia becasue it's a bad example. But mostly I really like BWBA because it actually teaches my kid some geography so sue me. Afterwards my kid sent messages to Nia telling her he loved her and sent her drawings of her on Twitter and NIa actually answered him more than once telling him his drawings were cool and stuff so that actor is a pretty good person.
In terms of costs if one train ran away to travel the world it would probably be cheaper just to buy a new train than chase after it, assuming we lived in a world of anthropomorphic trains but everything else was the same.
@@TankEngine75 But would it really be cheaper to fly all over the world looking for a crazy anthropomorphic runaway train when you are the owner of a business you're supposed to be running. I mean he's taking time off work as well as paying for airfare to a lot of different countries. But I guess you are right that trains are super expensive but this is only a little tank engine so one of the cheapest?
Thomas only wanted to be allowed to pull trains like the other engines and be respected among the other engines. When he received his Branch Line, he didn’t wanted to go anywhere else, he is even boastful about his branch line. But here they did the most stupid thing ever. I think that the character who changed the most behind Henry is Thomas, in the RWS, he was an show-off and cocky engine, and usually caught himself into trouble; but in the current series he is all the kind and greedy engine that tries to entertain the kids to do crap, just why, man? Why do they have to change personalities without an episode explaining it?
@@sebastianfranklinshaw9718 I think that he is so kind that he isn't as charming as his RWS persona (also, I think it rip-offs Edward a little bit), and greedy because he wants to go around the world for no reason (from what I know). But, what can I do other than accepting all of this?
@@Alarcj7 The word "kind" in English means nice it is a good word not a bad word. Unless you mean he's of a different kind which is another meaning but you didn't express it that way. But I hated how Thomas was mean to Nia in the movie but I did enjoy the movie aside from that bit bothered me the whole way through. In the RWS he says he wants to go travel the world at one point I think but he only means go to London when he says that.
@@sebastianfranklinshaw9718 I believe that he was so tired of being stuck in the shunting yard that he didn’t even took a measure of what of saying he wanted to see the world. Also (as I have already stated), after he had his branch line, he didn’t want to be go anywhere else (I use as proof of this that he wasn't longing to go anywhere else). Now for the "kind" part, I know for ages what the word means, but I just feel the way he's kind too forceful and ridiculous ("It's always better to be really useful." just makes me feel I'm being burned alive), but however, I think he shouldn't be rude all the time, I just wished him to have his RWS persona back.
That was amazing. People have been telling me that I really went into details in my review but so did you. You took so many single lines of dialogue or scenes that lasted less than ten seconds and talked about them. I really shows that you put effort into this just to make sure everybody can understand the problems. Now, you asked yourself the question why you even bothered to watch it and I think I have the answer: You are just a true Thomas fan. I mean, I do not blame anyone who stopped watching the show after BWBA or will stop now, but I think that if you keep watching the show even though it is not good anymore, that shows how much you still care about what is happening to it. Just to quickly give my thought on the movie: I have not seen it until the beginning of january because I have been waiting for a German dub to watch this first, but apparently, German release is not until october of 2019. Anyway: In all, I liked the movie. I find it hard to believe myself, but I quite enjoyed it. The lack of narration caused quite some relaxing brakes from the action, I am so used to the bouncing by now that it does not bother me anymore (I can call myself lucky) and I surprisingly liked some of the rather emotional momens like Sometimes You Make A Friend (I absolutely love it). But the thing is: It just has nothing to do with Thomas anymore. I cannot compare it to the other movies and the biggest reason I am able to enjoy it is that all these problems like bouncing or lack of any sense at all do not bother me. So, seen critically, this movie really is a disaster. Thomas is something that has a lot of potential and Mattel is not using it right. However, the ones that do know how to use that potential properly are the fans. There are many fan series' on RU-vid that feature everything Thomas needs; Like you said: Effort, charm and logic. Take your time. Take a break as long as you need it to be. No matter how many people make fun of you, the people that understand you know that you are doing good and right things. Never forget that.
Kind of almost wonder if the fans would poke fun at the antics that Ace was doing, by essentially having his driver be an escaped mental patient that took advantage of Ace's naivete and possibly need for speed, in an attempt to lose the authorities that'd clearly be after him. Least that's the only way I could make sense of why Ace's driving is so dangerous, it's a wonder he hasn't damaged himself beyond repair in an accident, yet.
Although I hate this movie the same way James hates it, we all can agree that this isn't Thomas anymore. Actually, for me the show was never the same after season 2 ended.
I'm not usually one to say that new Thomas and Friends characters are altogether evil. BUT! ... I can't even begin to tell you how much intense pleasure I'd get watching 'Ace' being impounded by a policeman. Just to see a still image of Ace looking in horror at one of his wheels being clamped would make my mouth water with sincere, hateful pleasure.
11:52 I’ve seen a comic dub from Rahmahfool of Ace telling Thomas that he should be the first steam locomotive to go around the world. And then the Flying Scottsman comes and says it’s already been done before, blowing Thomas’s chance.
@Master Farr more like Big World Big Adventures is about making stupid chioces, like Carly picking up Sir Topham Hatt with her hook I mean Sir Topham Hatt could've died or injured himself
There are some things that I didn’t like about BWBA. And that’s , 1. Ace, 2. Thomas’s attitude, 3. The loop scene and 4. Sir Topham Hatt was constantly running into bad luck .
And if Daisy starts bouncing guess what her passengers would have to deal with. As the narrator said, “The passengers don’t like being bounced around like pees in a pot”. Think Mattel, thinnnnnnnk!
Gabe PL Not to mention kids only like PAW Patrol as it is super fast paced, characters with loads of energy, and the main characters are voiced by child actors who have to be replaced every season and it also has become more overly reliant on gimmicks. Now my home country of Australia is going to have a limited release of the new racing-themed PAW Patrol special, as Thomas 100% ditched movie specials due to the runtime being unable to grab children’s attention.
They should not have even tried to appeal to the broad audience. Thomas has its own audience and it should cater ONLY to that audience. The first thing that should be done is getting rid of the CGI altogether and bring back the models. I know it’s expensive, but quality over quantity. Also, they need to get the narration back.
The film that broke my interest in modern Thomas I'll always love classic Thomas and friends, but I love it too much to see Mattel turn it into shit like this
Thomas 2006: Making tracks to great destinations. Enjoy, children! Thomas 2019: Thomas globetrotts without permission to convince you dumb kiddies to ignore your parents!
@@randomreviewsrebooted5156 definitely. As stupid as the plots got from the HIT entertainment series, they never broke the basic laws of gravity or physics
38:13 I Totally Agree, The Classic Series was just one of the Greatest Things in Thomas History. But the People at Mattel Creation don’t give Sh*t about common Sense. And I can’t believe people say kids think Seasons 17-21 were boring, imagine if someone filmed kids reactions of the Latter Seasons That were mentioned.
@@jjb1908 I think the children were grateful for Andrew Brenner (and Mattel) for saving the show after it's abomination from Sharon Miller and bringing back Railway Series references, however that's not what they had in mind, I think what they wanted more excitement and not just stuff only made to please Wilbert and Christopher Awdry solo, as James A Williams said Mattel is doing this to entertain the children
When Thomas went from real model trains to digital animation it lost me. I love my Hornby Thomas setup, it allowed me to get my kid into model trains. So the real deal trains will always be special to me.
I'd rather take Seasons 17 to 21 over Seasons 8-12. I find it sad that there are still fans who would rather watch watered down episodes like Thomas's Frosty Friend or Don't Be Silly Billy over quality episodes like Love Me Tender or Useful Railway just because of models.
@@ThomasSirHandel Though I do love the models, I find seasons 8-16 to be absolutely awful. Also love me tender is a favorite of mine. Mainly due to how accurately it portrays real brothers.
ThomasSirHandel Season 8 was kinda the best out of 8-12, seasons 9-11 were mediocre but watchable, season 12-16 were terrible, and Seasons 17-21 were renaissance material, but seasons 22-24 imo are both mediocre and inconsistent imo
Smudger gets turned into a generator for accidentally derailing several times and laughing about it, even though it wasn't his fault he wasn't gauged properly and not a single engine or staff member on Sodor cares that this poor little engine has rotted away to his death for something that in the first place, was not even his fault. Bulstrode gets abandoned on a beach for being badly damaged in an accident after complaining several times without even hurting anybody or causing any physical confusion or delay on the island, yet not a single soul cares that this poor boat has rotted away to his death, not even because of his behaviour, but because of how badly damaged he was in the accident. Thomas abandons Sodor where his two practical sisters Annie and Clarabelle are in constant service on his branchline, where all of his dozens of friends that he has known for years are, where two crucial runners of two different busy railways are constantly needed, a move which causes Topham to have to abandon his important job to run around looking for Thomas which forces one backup controller to end up having to run both busy lines on the island, just to see a race happening in a random country, returns and not a single soul is even just a little bit cross with him? Given the standards of how the railway has been in the past, Thomas should have been publicly executed for entertainment for what he did. And it's okay Nia, if S.C.Ruffey can survive being broken to pieces, so can you. If an engine should be turned into a generator and abandoned for accidents he didn't take seriously then Thomas, so should you. If a badly behaved brake van should be scrapped after an accident, so should you Thomas. If you cause so much confusion and delay and the near death of a controller and the probable closing down of the railway you work on because of how angry the customers would be, then you should be scrapped Thomas. Locomotives and rolling stock are vehicles. Vehicles break, and get damaged. Those trucks and probably even Thomas should be broken after crashing onto the sand after doing that nonsensical loop. Boy, do I miss when the vehicles were treated like vehicles.
I feel like the references in this film’s first song just ruined the experience for me even more because now we KNOW that this monstrosity of a film is cannon.
Yes. Our lord and saviour Wilbert is truly pissed off. If I had 10 pounds for every sin James gave this film, I'd be a millionaire, or at least a kid with several 100s of pounds. And I'd buy a fuckton of thomas stuff, including the Bachmann Thomas 0 gauge sets.
Funnily enough, in The Unlucky Tug's video on BWBA, he kept calling Ace "Lightning McQueen" and I legit thought that was what the car's name was. And I was wondering why Mattel didn't get slapped with a Pixar lawsuit. Still not happy that Mattel basically used my favourite childhood series to semi-rip off my favourite Pixar film though :(
Yeah. A HUGE missed opportunity for banter, there. Could've gone something like; Hank: HEEEYY!! Howdy there, Thomas! Thomas: Hank! I never expected us to meet like this, but am I ever glad to see you. Hank: Well, I never thought we'd meet again, either, ever since I had to leave Sodor, due to the amount of coal n' water I took on, compared to the other engines at the time. AND, I see you're still having trouble with handling your load, too. >chuckles< Thomas: Don't remind me. Hank: Yeah... Well then, Thomas? Would ya like me to help ya, just like old times? Thomas: Oh please do, Hank.
They struggled to listen to their own advice from Season 3 that “sometimes the best travels are those we can only dream of”. A message that lets the viewers know that it’s important to accept your place in the world no matter how insignificant it may seem. Not so you can simply abandon your friends, family, jobs and responsibilities just to run away to foreign places that are well beyond your comfort zone and expect nobody to be upset with you for doing so. Even the Miller era didn’t make Thomas THAT idiotic. I hope that trust and honesty was worth it Mattel, because now you’ve drained Thomas the Tank Engine from any of both those things he had left. What a fucking finale to a series!
Ah, Thomas and Friends was a good series. It lasted from season 8 to season 21 and though it had a troubled start and a really bad middle point but it was overall pretty good, especially when season 17 and King of the Railway happened and ended pretty will but the last season was shorter than any of the others but it was still a decent ending and the series of Thomas and Friends was a good continuation of Thomas The Tank Engine and Friends. *Then the reboot came along not very long after and everything collapsed! Good thing it is not canon and is just a terrible reboot that nobody likes and people will not consider actually liking the movie as well as the first season that coincided with it...* *Right?*
As someone who isn’t in the fandom, even I can say Thomas is going downhills. Networks nowadays don’t understand the benefits of slower paced shows. It makes things for down to earth instead of throwing things at you. Also the cartoony imagery looks weird with the CGI models since trains can’t move like that.
What happens whenever Thomas fucks of too someplace else? Toby takes over passenger duties on Thomas' branch line. Subsequently Mavis goes to work on Toby's branch line. Then Den is called up to help Arry and Bert at the quarry. As for the local, another coach is added to Donald and Douglas' heavy passenger train to account for the passengers who would normally take the local. And why did Mr Percival run the NWR? Because he has much more experience and, by now, could probably handle the stress. Also be real. The open fish trucks and Misty Island references were jokes.
It really is time big corporations like Mattel and Disney got stripped of these timeless IPs, be it Thomas, Fireman Sam, Star Wars or anything else! You have done a good job before now explaining this is what happens when these IPs get into the hands of careless corporations! I really hope this franchise finds its way into better hands one day, I hope to have kids one day and I hope the entertainment they consume is as good as possible! My strategy is to show my future kids as much good animation as possible, including (but definitely NOT limited to!) Paddington, The Wombles and Little Charo, so that if they do discover Peppa Pig and the like, they’ll stand a better chance of sensing the badness!
Thomas has really gone downhill I can agree with everything you say in this review and the bouncing is the most thing I hate about that show now and Thomas is always missing!!
Thomas Master Did we just not see Thomas tell all his friends he's gonna see the world, show not tell, and besides, didn't he tell Gordon, did STH also tell them off screen?
1:28 this is more better that BWBA and the 2D of him is BEAUTIFEL! Im wish if all engines go will be animated with this desing... Will give me nostagia
Cure Hana Doesn't help that Ace sucks as a character too. He feels like a Lightning McQueen, and his accent makes him a stereotype of Australians. As someone who is Australian, he is a disgrace to my nationality.
Thomas Master But at least Thomas asks permission before travelling around the world unlike Journey Beyond Sodor and STH didn't directly say no, right?
57:35-57:54 Or.... -Ending The Lion King after Scar throws Mufasa into the Stampede. -Ending Aladdin after Jafar sends Aladdin, Abu and Carpet out of Agrabah. -Ending Toy Story after Woody gets thrown off the moving truck. -Ending Monsters Inc after Henry banishes James and Mike to the Himilayas. -Ending Madagascar after the penguins make it to Antarctica. -Ending The Peanuts Movie after the Red Baron destroys Charlie Brown and Heather's book report.
Joach's World Don’t take my word on it until you get confirmation, but I think I saw a vid showing Britt Alcroft’s reaction towards this monstrosity of a “film” before it came out.
Here is my meme of the movie: Sir Topham Hatt: *Scolds Thomas after saving Ryan* The writers while writing BWBA: Operation "Torture Sir Topham Hatt" is a go!
I was bored at one point recently and decided to attempt to calculate how long his journey was, and I calculated it as being almost 2 months long and I'm pretty sure my calculations are off but That was not counting stops or detours. So yeah.
James A Willams, I went to see Big World Big Adventures in a cinama in Liverpool (UK) with my brothers. After seeing the film, I described it as thus, "STRAIGHT TO DVD!!!"
The fact is, the golden years of Thomas & Friends was Season 1-7, with a resurgence from Season 17-20. The show nowadays is disastrous. They need new producers and writers. Fan series on RU-vid have become more realistic, entertaining and educational than the real show.
53:42 at least with Journey Beyond Sodor, you can make the assumption that Sir Topham Hatt punished him off screen, since He and James returned home right at the end of the film, and it was during a musical number, but here, that is not the case, so you can’t make that assumption.
36:08 Not only that but there is also the Darien Gap in Panama where NO roads or tracks crossing from the two continents so its realistically impossible
@Dylan Duck Productions Don't even THINK about associating these sanctimonious jackasses, with people that actually care about the sincere cause they fight, and actually have common sense, experience and knowledge to know when these people are filled with more bullshit than the stuff that went on in this movie.
52:45 That is my only nitpick of the Skarloey Railway episodes from Season 4 as they had Sir Topham Hatt run the Skarloey Railway rather than Mr. Percival. But my speculation is that they had Mr. Hugh run the Skarloey Railway when Mr. Percival was running the NWR.
ThomasSirHandel Maybe neither of them were introduced then either because of budget or they didn’t want to suddenly introduce too many new characters. Some kids would’ve found it confusing.
@@JamesAWilliams You should make an alternative ending to "Big World, Big Adventures". When Thomas and Nia came home, everyone gets very angry at Thomas and telling him off for fucking off like he did and leaving all the other engines to do all of his duties as well as their own. and angrily scolded the blue tank engine that they were all worried to death about we he has been. Also, The Fat Controller arriving in Harold and walking up and letting out his anger on Thomas and even Mr. Percival getting extremely pissed off at Thomas because he had to run 2 railways while Thomas was away. Also, add Michael Angelis' voice in this video ( from Uberduck ) ! Think you can do that ? Since you despise that movie with a burning passion !
Now, October 2021 is going to be one horrendous time for the Thomas and Friends Fanbase. I did James A. Williams a favor and watched the reboot’s trailer so he didn’t have to suffer that ‘Baby Thomas voice’
I don’t understand of this movie. When Ace said “The first railway engine to go all the way around the world”. He was trying to say: “The first “Tank” or “Sodor” engine
Something else that really bugs me about the open fish scene is how all the fish in the crates are duplicated and all in the exact same position. Couldn't they have made multiple variations of the fishes' positions in the crates and just turn or flip them around or something?
Logic Support Reactions: 5:51 I also question how Thomas could completely control himself without a driver, unlike that one episode in Season 1 where he crashed into that stationmaster house. 6:34 Yeah, smell is blockable, it's very doable! 7:25 Okay, that's just confusing as heck to picture. Why not Henry? 9:49 Now that you mention it, it really does remind me of that too, doesn't it. 13:45 Why would a controller of a railway in general agree to that sort of thing? 16:10 That's like overdoing the writing! Seriously! 17:16 There's no way that it just happened to be a coincidence. 20:56 Why the heck would she do something like that?! 22:36 Why can't the Fat Controller or Sir Topham Hatt for me, tell Harold to go find Thomas or something? I can't imagine any better solution. 26:04 Oh for goodness sakes! Ruuuude! That's not a funny trick AT ALL. 29:59 UMM? Are you sure about that, Thomas? You have definitely seen elephants before! 30:48 Never judge the book by its cover, but if he acts creepy, then yeah. 30:56 Why did that make me laugh of that surprise motherhecking teleport? How did he sneak behind him like that? 34:05 Oh heck off with that, Ace. Don't you know there's things that are important? That's going to poison the kids' minds with that! 42:52 Oh no, I think I know where this is going. He's going to be moving without the rails. 48:30 What the actual! He just appeared out of hecking nowhere! What an unnatural coincidence! 51:19 Oh crap, this is where the "Girl Power" is going to start. It's like saying it doesn't matter if they are male or female, they are still both human or something! The very last part of the movie, oh my gosh, that is COMPLETELY heartless as heck! Good thing I already retired as a TV person around several years ago. Sid The Science Kid would always be one of my favorites though.
No that was way worse because they actually thought emojis would make an amazing film, Thomas going around the world isn't too hard to believ considering the Flying Scotsman
It is. The Fat Controller would never do such a thing. he cares about his engines more than the beaching ax. Thomas is like a son to Topham and he often screws up time to time.
Yeah, I doubt Sir Topham Hatt would actually scrap his engines (and more likely send them away so that whoever lives on the mainland can do who knows what to them), but with what he's been through, I think he'd outright force Thomas into an outright degrading situation that would humiliate him to where he'd be absolutely sure that Thomas would never have plans to run off again.
@@Alarcj7 I agree the concept is insanely bizarre but I kind of liked this movie and I like that it educates my son about different continents. I hate that James William took my son from liking the movie to hating it just because of the bouncing.
Nathan Williams 2005 I actually enjoyed Cars1 and Cars 3. Cars 2 was meh in my opinion or 50/50. Not necessarily good or bad but meh. I am just not gonna go on the hate bandwagon just like MysteriousMrEnter where people say’ UH CARS 2 IS JUST TO SELL TOYS U KNOW’. John Lasseter made the film because he wanted to make a spy movie and a movie where Mater and McQueen goes to different countries.
This is on an unrelated note, but I think the first one is pretty decent, the second one is garbage (still better than big world big adventures), and the third one I actually really liked.
Actually because the USA still uses diesels and don't have a lot more high speed trains than the UK (only the northeast corridor has high speed rail at the time this comment was made) they're trying to make us think that we don't care about our railroads. (Even though there's the rail passenger association that does care about bringing more passenger rail to America and support passenger railroads like Amtrak, Metrolink, Metra ,RTD, and so on.) But we do use construction equipment. I'm sure look at one of the trains magazines that talks about train accidents here in North America.
Drinking game: Every time the characters repeat things more than 3 times, take as many shots as the times they repeat it. (e.g. if they repeat something 5 times, take 5 shots) I'll have a sick bucket, a team of doctors and a jug of water on standby.
Jeebus, this movie just outright Derailed Thomas' character! I mean, like you said, In any sensible world Thomas would of faced serious consequences for up and shirking off his responsibilities! Uggh! THERE IS ONLY ONE PUNISHMENT FOR THIS MOVIE! (All trains coming!) HYPER RESSHA GATTAI! ALL ABOARD! TOQ RAINBOW! I CAN SEE IT: YOUR LAST STOP! TOQ RAINBOW, FINAL SLASH!
