Great project! Another tip for screwing in the eye hooks is put one of the hooks in your drill and then you can use the drill to thread those in

Good call! Forgot about that one.

Great idea burying the bucket like that, when I first saw them I thought you filled that entire barrel half with concrete, thought man those are never moving again! Showed my wife the finished product and think she will be on my case to recreate something similar in our yard

That would have weighed a ton...you’re right! Glad you’ll be making some. ;)

Nice job Bruce! I don't know if your buckets taper inward toward the bottom, but if they do, you may have been able to reuse the bucket by using a release agent for the concrete. Used motor oil was an old-timer's trick when doing form work for slabs - coat the wood, and the idea is that the concrete doesn't stick, so you save in materials cost. Not sure if there's another product to use on plastic, but I bet there's something out there. I've done the bucket idea for a mailbox post, it's a solid idea for leaving you the potential to move it in the future, I think that was a pretty good idea. I showed my wife the screwdriver in the eye hook thing, but she forgets all the time. Maybe seeing your wife put that tip to good use will make it easier for her to remember to do

Thank you! I don’t think these buckets tapered toward the bottom but I like that line of thinking.

Nice little family project. I don’t know if I would have done the poles any differently but then again I probably won’t ever do a project like this. My sister had squirrels continuously climb and chew up her lights. It looks amazing but I would be concerned about it getting ruined since she had such bad luck. Haha

Oh yeah? I’ve not heard of squirrels doing that with these. They did at our other place in Mississippi with the mosquito traps. Rascals.

Looks great! Maybe I’ll try something similar but it’ll have to wait for next year. We’ve already had flurries up here so the backyard campfires are going to have to wait till spring.

Great video Bruce. We all know the reason you used the jig saw though. Jig saws are better at cutting curves…are the cricket sounds I hear from your backyard???
@BruceAUlrich
@BruceAUlrich Год назад
Must me crickets from my yard! I didn’t want to use the jigsaw the whole time. That would take forever
