Welcome by Amy Crawford (Outdoor Recreation Coordinator, Wyoming Outdoor Recreation Office)
Introduction to Collaboration by Steve Smutko (Associate Dean, Spicer Chair of Collaborative Practice, Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources)
The Emerging Issue Forum and Workshop on "Outdoor Recreation: Building It the Way We Want It," occurred April 26-28, 2023, in Laramie, Wyoming. Convened by the Haub School's Ruckelshaus Institute, in partnership with the the Wyoming Outdoor Recreation, Tourism, and Hospitality (WORTH) Initiative, and the Wyoming Outdoor Recreation Office, and with sponsorship from Albany County Tourism Board, the forum explored how Wyoming communities can balance the benefits and impacts of growing outdoor recreation and tourism-economically, culturally, and environmentally. The workshop walked participants through the outdoor recreation development skills needed to bring a project from the idea stage to ongoing maintenance and growth.
Three days of speakers, panels, discussions, and workshops were aimed at achieving the following goals:
- Provide tools and knowledge that stakeholders can bring back to their constituents
- Create space for conversations and relationship building among participants
- Reveal what needs exist. Direct future action and support from the Ruckelshaus Institute and WORTH Initiative
