@@TheNinja691 It's too late for guys like you. Sorry, you bought into the system and you're in for life. What Kris has done is a young man;s game, a young man with no ties, good health, energy and desire. A middle aged guy with a family and mortgage would be an epic fail trying to do the same.
I don't recall you failing even once. Just lots of learning experiences and demonstrations you've generously recorded for me and others to learn from. I for one really appreciate all your effort in documenting all of this. I've been watching your channel since your early days and its amazing to see your progress. Please don't take this as pressure but your videos help people. Cheers Mate!
KRIS I enjoy all your video's. And never give a negative comment on any video's I watch. Being in a wheelchair from age 23 until 57 now, I just like watching other's live there dream. Craig, Ohio, U. S.
Hey Kris, really sad RU-vid isn't working for you. I think people like you and Maximus Ironthumper are the lifeblood of the online alternative living community. I personally have an awful lot of respect for you and your can-do attitude. keep up this excellent channel and please ignore the nay sayers. cheers for posting
Isn't working for him????...do you realize that with almost 340, odd K subscribers his RU-vid income ( apart from) patron supporters..is 40/50,000 dollars a Month!!....I admire him immensely but make no mistake, he is doing very nicely.. and good luck to him.
@@alangardiner872 haha? where do you get this information from? 1million views pays $300-500 for his kind of content.. If he provided financial information, maybe double.
@@alangardiner872 stop saying shit I just searched his channel on socialblade and monthly around £162- to £2.6k so you are lying well that's just from RU-vid don't know about patreon but still he doesn't earn that much so he is not doing that well from RU-vid
Nobody learns anything from getting things right every time. You’ve done a fantastic job there. Creating a life from the land. Be proud of yourself. Most armchair experts will never achieve half of what you’ve achieved already
So you have gone from novice to master in about 5 years. This is an impressive accomplishment that seems to require the deep skill of learning independently. It is not trivial to be able to learn complex things using the amazing information available on the internet. The information is there, finding it and learning it requires discipline and mental capacity. Not all of us have either. Few of us have both at the level you have demonstrated. Thank you for sharing this very special journey. You have inspired many of us.
Novice?! Have you seen his first videos? If you think that’s novice then you’re lacking understanding of the privilege he had growing up having the opportunity to learn this type of stuff
I thought you had an Engineering background after watching you build your hydro generator. Looking forward to watching your place grow as you continue to improve it.
Kris, your humility and perseverance is inspiring. In these very strange times, people are re evaluating what is of value. I am a painter / artist who firmly believes that nature and or environment is neglected in favour of material pisesions. Love your RU-vid videos kris.
Really nice video. You have an easy manner in front of the camera, and it's quite easy (for me) to feel I'm listening to a friend. Interesting that you are working with someone in Ireland on the turbines. I live on the Beara peninsula in West Cork, on Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way. (I got here long before there WAS a Wild Atlantic Way!) Like you I got cheesed off with town life (I'm a Dubliner originally) and live in a bungalow on an acre of the most beautiful land you can imagine -imho- with mountains filling my windows. Never thought I could survive living in a tiny west of Ireland village, but here I am 20 years later, happy as can be. Keep being Kris, Kris. Great channel!
I find I admire you more and more as you progress in your activities. Sure there have been instances when I thought 'I would have done that differently'. BUT: You DID it, you did it your way, and got it done, and most often it worked out. Plus in the meantime you've been learning and growing like few other people. So I'll say it again: Thank you Kris, for being an inspiration!
You are an amazing man. You seem to have a deep understanding of life. But you must understand that what people say dosen't matter. Some people will try to destroy what you are trying to accomplish through comments. What people say cannot hurt or change things unless you let them. It is up to you. Stay safe and healthy my friend.
most negative comments I've had are about a simple pouch design being simple... crack on mate, you do brilliant things and whether I understand the ins and outs or not it's clear you do!
'Never done this before, so no reason to think I cant't do it.' Is an awesome and inspiring attitude. When the revolution comes, you're one of the survivors. Unlike the armchair experts you do know how to use your brains and your hands and what it means to fend for your own. Keep up the good work!
The revolution is with us.. we have a Government that lie to us...lock up old ladies for no mask, but pay illegal immigrants 40 pound cash/week after also putting them in high quality accommodation and they have no mask during the whole process...Britain is a dustbin..That's why I moved in 2000...Enoch was not wrong.
Kris, thanks for taking the time to answer all those questions - good to hear some of your background; I'd assumed you had a woodworking career, but it's obviously just a love and feeling for wood that drives you. Most RU-vidrs think that the 'boring' stuff is boring, but not so, many of us pick up on things that are intuitive to you, but are new to us. Ignore the nay-sayers, or block them... they add nothing and only cause grief, what you're doing is inspiring and laudable, do please carry on!
My girlfriend and I just keep looking at the door you built. It's so beautiful. I'm a pretty good craftsman myself, but I haven't done one as nice as that my friend. As always, love to watch your projects.
Please please please when you’re ready to offer the courses for the house build give us plenty of time to organise time off. I find your ‘have a go’ attitude and confidence so inspiring!!
Seconded. A have pretty pathological perfectionism myself, and I tend to put off projects until I have every detail figured out, and its quite therapeutic to see how far a guy and his chainsaw can come.
Your failures are simply part of a success story. Nothing worth working for has ever been achieved without the odd failure or two. Keep it up. Your videos are inspiration to many of us.
Fascinating and inspiring, great Q&A. I was hoping someone might ask about planning permission, building control, etc. Are these required for your buildings? If so, what costs, hassles and delays have you suffered?
Kris. You are watched by thousands of people. Some of us are intelligent, some of us are not! If you receive negative comments about what you are doing, and how you are doing it, it's fair to assume they are from the less intelligent of us. Just ignore it mate, you've got more skill and intelligence in your little finger than them. The way you do stuff is up to you, it works for you, I appreciate you sharing it with us, sure you make errors but that is the best way to learn. I honestly think I can speak for the majority of your subscribers when I say we are 100% behind you. The other (not so intelligent ) should be ignored. Please don't let it get to you....
@Animal Liberation you know you're reading the comment of a dull mouth breather when they resort to talking about "trolls," "haters," or insist that "you're just jealous" as they try to publically play white knight to their favorite channel owner, hoping, hoping, hoping that he will recognize their efforts (and dare I say their l❤ve?) for him and publically thank them You're a middle aged man, but you sound like an 11 year old school girl (cringe)
I live in Wales myself and would love to help you build your house when you get to that point. I also dream of getting my own land and building a straw bale house. I’d love to help out on other projects and learn a bit before mine becomes a reality. I’ll keep an eye and reach out when you’re ready. ☺️
I'm curious to see if you will maybe do that second intake for the hydro you were planning and how you will balance it, I have some ideas but nothing tested. Also something to think about is a septic system that can be used to feed plants I think you are doing a great job getting back to nature in a big way, and from someone who suffers badly from depression and PTSD, I think you probably did get a bit depressed at the start but worked your way through it and just kept on going. You are an INSPIRATION to humans everywhere who feel trapped by the system and need to escape. I unfortunately do not have the same means to escape but you bring all those ideas and processes that I have researched and put it into practical use, in front of a camera, so others can learn. Keep up the good work.
Well that was fascinating. I have been watching since the start, and never really knew what your plans were for the land. Like so many youtube channels, the thing that really keeps us watching is interesting content and a likeable presenter. You definitely tick both those boxes, I hope you keep the vids going, thanks from Australia.
When I found you on RU-vid I was totally intrigue on how you were going to build you house and outbuildings and the lifestyle you were going for, I have found it very interesting to watch and learn as you have progressed with your lifestyle.
Hello Kris love your video's nice place , watching the round house build was awesome an all that entailed for to run off grid , like your style of building things , Peace Blessings Craig
What a Brilliant vlog Kris, very honest and informative. 5 yrs ago I was about undertake a rebuild of a 200yr old ruin of a cottage but unfortunately hurt my back just prior to starting and unable to do so since.. it was going to be my escape from modern life...as I don't need or like the modern way of life...stay safe and stay happy
Awesome thanks Kris, been watching from the start of your channel, sometimes wish I could give two thumbs up, I would love to visit one day for one of the tours when you have it operational.👍👍
I love your channel. You are so wildly intelligent and kind. Your videos are such an inspiration. I’m 18 years old and thinking about getting property to do the same as you. I’ve been interested in cob for the last 3 years and when I came across your channel it really made my day. I wish dot, the cat, and you the best!
what a great video. your a man after my own heart. i bought 4 acres in cornwall a few years ago and have modest plans to become self sufficient myself . like you, i dont have any money and have to make things like my stables etc out of pallet wood. bloody hard work. great channel.
Hi Chris, love your channel and your willingness to have a go. don’t be put off by the negative comments, put them in context, you have almost 160,000 followers, I bet the negative comments are less than 1%, not worth bothering about, ignore them.
Kris, ultimate respect for your lifestyle and building skills. I'm amazed at your collection of machinery and tools. Great story to see your change from the start, you've really made a wonderful life for yourself and Dot. Look forward to when you upload your videos, please keep up the good work.
My suggestion to all my favorite youtubers, do more adds and more lives to avoid having to spend so much time editing. More frequent videos help the analytics and the ads are good for those who can’t do more help. We love your channel content and videos and are willing to help you keep posting by watching more ads. Maybe Monday Wednesday and Friday, two live and 1 regular. God Bless you and Dot
Kris - I follow a channel of a homesteading family and truly enjoy the videos that follow the morning chores - feeding chickens, feeding pigs, checking the garden, watering, etc. Watching the daily rhythm is soothing for viewers and I hope it reduces the editing time for the creator. You have done a couple of videos about doing your daily rounds. How about doing such videos every week or two? Or show morning chores for a few minutes, and then a few minutes showing a project you are working on (or repairs) or talking about a project or a subject/topic? Perhaps these types of videos would not take as much time to plan, film and/or edit and would be satisfying to you while being so very welcomed by your RU-vid community. Filmed Q-&-A sessions (every week or two) would also be very welcome. One suggestion: When you do a single video showing a project from start to finish that has little or no audio, could you add either short printed explanatory phrases or pithy voiceover comments? You did printed explanations for one video but the words left the screen too quickly.
As always Kris, the main thing we all get from your video's, your life style and your attitude is quite simply inspiration. I know there will always be detractors but overwhelmingly, people love what you do and how you go about things. All the very best to you, Dot and the cat - stay safe and well x Pete x
Kris, You have gone such a long way since your first series And look at what you have achieved. You are a continuous example of “what you can think of, you can make it exist,” I am still halftime in London, but my land is getting geared up become a welcoming place on earth. You have inspired me and for that I am deeply grateful. dominique.
Well for a scruffy Hobbit you look okay. I myself am a Kinder complete with top knot. I found your channel when you were putting the rafters up for the lower workshop. Went back through it to see you building your house. Priceless! Thank you for sharing everything. I've learned a lot. Blessings on you and Dot, Mouser, and various livestock! Stay healthy please!🕊🐱💟🤠🌱⛺🖖🙏
Thank you for sharing your journey toward a self-sufficient "HomeStead/farm" in Wales, UK. I live in Arkansas, USA; in an apartment. I have a very great thirst for knowledge; you help me to satisfy that thirst for knowledge. I am happy you were able to find a partner to share your passion for the "Country Life".Since I am now retired, I look for videos that are informative, as well as entertaining; your videos do both for me. Thanks again. Peace, Long Life, and Health to all.
Scruffy Hobbit! Love it! I'm cut from the same cloth 😁. A long video but has probably saved you time responding to comments, very honest, informative and definitely worth watching all the way through. It's so refreshing to know that there are people that care, that try and that have the intelligence to think things through a bit and also think about all their possibilities. Hope you're all well.
Echoing other commenters, I've been here since you began building the house. Try not to let the negative commenters get to you- why should someone else's ignorance be your problem ? Beware of letting them live rent free in your head. I enjoy and learn from all your videos and you work so damn hard at everything.
You're a little older than I was starting off "living off grid". I was 17 in NH (USA) and built a cabin, hand drilled a well, had no electricity and lived through the first year in NH winter (-5F and lots of snow back then, circa 1969) but as you said, a lot of things I would have done differently. However, it build character and forms the rest of your life one way or another. Makes a better person of you of puts you in the rehab center.. I survived and although not living "off the grid" I am certainly doing all I can do to reduce, recycle, reuse and get back to nature. Solar on the house, large garden, mostly hand work on building/creating stuff and really enjoy the outcomes. Keep it up! DD
Thank you for taking the time to answer questions! You basically answered all of mine! I am really looking forward to in the future, up coming years to watch your bale straw construction if you decide to go that route! Thanks again for making the videos! I defently have learned alot!😀👍👍👍👍
If only I was 30 years younger I too would have a go at what you have done because I have also loved building things and designing stuff, well done and good job(s) well done 👍
Hi Kris, just wanted to say I really enjoyed this chilled, laid back chat about all of your accomplishments and hard work. Love your videos and I look forward to enjoying them for as long as you are able to and feel like making them! All the best.
Howdy Kris! There is no such thing as failure as long as you keep trying! Even if you fall on your face, you're still 6 feet ahead of where you were! You are an inspiration to people everywhere & don't ever listen to the trolls & nay sayers! You have achieved so much & you deserve to take great pride in what you've created. You have a humble heart & that will take you so far in life. Big Hugs young man, you're brilliant!
Being a long time watcher I wasn’t, at first, going to watch this video because I figured you’d just be sitting down talking, which you were, but found it very interesting not just your answers but the thinking behind some of them. Very honest and frank. It takes a bit of courage to open up like you have. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for sharing your totally inspirational stuff and ignore the idiots! I watch in awe as you tackle incomprehensibly ambitious projects and include us in these endeavours. Love it so much.
Kris, thank you so much for the transparency and honesty you bring. You're a modest man, however you've been a big source of inspiration for my boy who bought acreage in Virginia to understand this off grid living. I'm so impressed by how you apply yourself. All the best!
Just spent 3 hours in lockdown watching these videos. Even the wife sat happy watching. Great to see from the beginning. Thanks for the journey. You are a man of the world and a man many of us hope to be. During this lockdown I would imagine millions of us wish we were away from today’s city environments. Keep it going.
Just discovered you channel today, and I've already binged your entire Hydro series! Wow, mate, what a true inspiration you are and this channel is. Subbed, and checking out the Patreon. As someone who is much to far away to ever get to attend a class in person, hopefully Patreon, and maybe something like Floatplane can keep video content worth your while, because Its truly so worthwhile for us!!
Timber frame and hay bail houses are awesome, seen a two story one being built it came out beautiful. Can't wait hope your still doing you tube when you build it.
Hi Kris, I only found your channel recently and to look back on how you started and how you've progressed is inspirational. At the beginning of this year I bought a plot of land in Spain and will be doing a similar kind of off grid project. Keep doing what you are doing and sharing the journey with the rest of us. thanks!
Hi Kris ! Thanks for an emotional film. I've been living 56 years without finding / meeting a person with similar values of life, like I have. I've seen quite a few of your RU-vid films and you impress on me every time. If you ever want to get stone rich, put some of your positive attitude in small boxes and sell them one by one. I guess you can sell several millions of them as soon as people understand the content in the box they just bought. Keep up the hard work and never give up your dreams. Our dreams forms our character. All the best : Joakim from Sweden
I am so grateful to have found you! The degree of thoughtfulness in your work is encouraging, especially those steps you take to save the land and yet to be self sufficient. Because you did so much by hand, should times get nasty, you have already gained the tutelage needed to carry on while most of us will be at ground zero. I so admire your creativity and pricess!
Really inspirational, Kris. Please know that for every person watching for you to fail there's a hundred of us watching for you to succeed! Thanks for talking about the motivational aspects and letting us see behind the curtain a bit.
I have enjoyed watching your journey since you laid the foundation on your round house. You have built a beautiful haven with the materials to hand. Thank you for sharing your adventure.
When I saw your first video a few years ago,I knew I would find a spot.clear it and build my own cordwood home.read all I could on cob.i started already .we have 11 acres..thank you for sharing.it really was inspiring ..
Kris, i think it would make great content to do a drone view of your smallholding . Perhaps when lockdown ends, a drone owning volunteer might be able to do this for you?
