This is a terrific show, very addictive...It's my theory that when Royal and Autumn shake hands and the mountain vanishes for a moment, a new timeline was created as two time travelers (one from the future and one from the past) physically connect in the present.

The first time Royal and Autumn touched was when she showed up backpacking on the ranch and they shook hands. The next time they shook hands we saw the entire mountain disappeared. is it possible they are melding the present and future when they touch, and in the future the entire mountain is gone due to it being mined of all the rare properties of the dark material found within. When they first shook hands it's possible a whole lot of people disappeared, as noted by the perp in the back of Joy's car.

The show is about how pain and suffering get transferred down the generations and how unresolved sins from past generations haunt and destroy families today. Royal is named “royal” because he is symbolic of his family’s bloodline. Many problems in families can be traced backwards through previous generations, like a black abyss that lives in everyone’s heart going back through time. That’s why The Hole in the West Pasture is a black hole full of literal time. The show teaches it’s possible to escape the evil destiny cast on us by our “grandfathers” by escaping “the old family” and starting a “new family.” Like what Rebecca tried to do, and what Rhett and Maria seem to be able to do at the end of the first season… although they are still chased and left stranded by the Buffalo, which represent time. Time is a symbol for generational pain/sin. It’s very difficult to escape past family trauma and the dark abyss inside some families. But there is hope… as Rhett shows as the “local hero” when he rides the bull with a broken shoulder and wins the girl at the end. It’s an amazingly deep and mythic show. There is way more than all that going on. Tons and tons of symbols. Very deep and powerful lessons. But primarily it’s a drama about escaping generational family abuse.

Kronos was told that one of his children would dethrone him, so he Swallows them when they are born, they are not killed. He couldn't kill them, they were his children, he imprisoned then inside his own body and held them there until he spit them out, all Alive.

Royals name was a huge hint- very common In the 1800s, (Laura ingalls husbands nor other was a Royal too!) lots of intriguing hints and genuinely beautiful cinematography. The scene where sherif Joy sees the encampment was breathtaking!

So, when Royal goes through the hole he ends up two years in the future (we think). When he jumps back in the hole he wakes up in the same time as he left...as far as we know. Going on that, my question is, who threw Trevor back into the hole in the future after Royal threw him in the hole in the past?

so...no polar bear...but a grizzly is close enough. if they find a hatch in season 2 or build a golf course...then i'd say we are all LOST.

Minor error: you got the order of events backwards when Autumn snoops throughout the house. She loses the poker game to Royal first (losing her necklace), and is then seen in the house looking for her necklace.

I loved this series I was hoping there would be a second season or a few more episodes .

I had a different take Sheriff Joy saw she might have ended up in the past that Native American tribe takes up a huge area and how long has it been there going unnoticed I think it is also no coincidence that she saw a Native American tribe as the tribe might be one her descentants were from or at the very least she could easily relate to it.

I got Autumn's identity right after episode 2

Could the mystery trust fund be set up by Wayne Tillerson's ex-wife? They both clearly have a lot of money and Wayne knows something about the hole. Who knows what happens in the future. I also think Rebecca knows a lot because she speaks to Autumn on the phone, which likely wouldn't work across different time dimensions. So Autumn is talking to her mom which is the same present day mom to Amy. This show at times reminded me of Westworld (season 1 only), Dark, and Stranger Things. Which on paper sounds incredible. I'm not convinced that Outer Range is quite Dark level of quality, but I'm happy to stick around through future seasons to see if things start tying together. There are a lot of unanswered questions. If they had spent more time exploring the actual time travel (more scenes from the past or present) rather than a whodunnit murder mystery that we know the answer to, I'd be suuuuper into this show.

I think the crux of the story is why Autumn comes to be who she is. From the time she left as a child to when she returned there seems to be no logical explanation for why she becomes an delusional megalomaniac. She'd be damaged, of course, with everything that happened but something must've happened with her mother that set her return into motion. She said she's been following the signs for years but she doesn't know about the hole until she sees Royal throw the body in and she doesn't know what will happen when she pushes Royal in. It's like she instinctively knows what to do in order for fate to unravel in the way that she so wishes. I think this must come from the stone on her necklace and is why she is so precious about it. I think the stone must be showing her where to go and what to do, probably by feelings of intuition. Where she got the stone is going to unravel a lot, too. Is her father in the future? Does she get it from her mother and is her mother in said future?

Per IMDB the actress playing the Rebecca character was in episodes 6,7 & 8 but I only saw her at the rodeo in episode 8. That is interesting. Were her scenes cut out of episodes 6 & 7?

As soon I realized the show is following The Lost steps by just throwing more and more mysteries and questions at as and hinting that all might be answered in the future, I dropped it. Thx for saving us all our time!

like the show, top level cast and acting. My only bug bare is ive sat through shows that pose question after question only to never really provide answers and if they do are really underwhelming. I hope outer range and its writers already know the answers and ending clearly otherwise this will become another let down.

This may be presumptuous, but I believe strongly that this show was heavily influenced by Dark. Especially with the bison/people existing at multiple times, hidden relatives that reveal themselves, a physical time traveling spot, bodies being left through time, etc. Even Autumn seems like the alt Martha in Dark, ensuring the timeline goes as planned. The way she scars herself is reminiscent of Martha scarring her other selves to keep the memory going. Royal ensuring his 'sons' like Rhett behave similar to Noah and carry out murder coverups. I'm excited for this show going forward.

Do you think Perry ended up going to the same time and place as Royal? That would account for Perry's presence when Royal makes the quick round trip to the future. Sadly it appears Rebecca (and Amy) chose another path rather than join them in the future.

Why would autumn/Amy need to come to the past to make sure the past happens the way it's supposed to? Doesn't her presence in the past only alter what the future might be? So many issues with shows that revolve around time travel or multi universe themes.

If you look to her left in the future it looks like that could be the one son that gets shot and killed in the last episode but somehow alive in the future

i watched the first episode and everything was so random nothing made sense so im not gonna waste time trying watch the rest ill just watch this. like randomly the guy wakes up and starts driving to the hole he never been too randomly the girl is a hot shot idk it was dumb

If you like this...you will love the Netflix show called dark ! Same plot but 5 times better with way more twist turns and mystery....but this was good too... 7/10

The most inconsistent thing with this show that annoys me, the Abbotts never seem to be doing much ranch work.

I dont think Autumn( older Amy)... is from the future. I think she and Rebecca escaped to the past! She grew up in the past these last 20ish years.....with a memory gap of the fact she went back (bipolar has already confirmed physiological issues). Coming back to the farm is awakening memories and the future that Royal saw with her as a cult leader is still to come. If she was from the future, she would have at least had some idea about forming the cult if Royal's time travel was only +- 2 years from now. the time gap is too small for her to be from the future with this little direction / plan. Her little rock may have given her glimpses but thats all.

Bipolar Disorder is NOT characterized by sudden wild mood swings, nor violent ones. Bipolar is actually characterized by cycles of depression and mania. In other words, commonly one with Bipolar will spend an amount of time (a week for example) in a depressed state. During this period the person may have a difficult time getting out of bed and may even attempt suicide. Once this phase is over, however long that takes whether a week, or several months, the person will jump into a manic mode. Mania is characterized by an abundance of energy, apathy, excitement, confidence, etc. Like someone on meth but without the tooth decay. I could buy that Autumn is in a manic state in the final two episodes due to being unmedicated, but I wouldn't say that her character is an accurate portrayal of bipolar.

umm.. Royal knew what the dark hole was.. that is how he came into this time from the long past 1880's to 1960's as a 14 year old.. his grand daughter came from the future to kill him, we also know she hooks up with the family nemesis neighbors.. and that her younger self disappeared when her mother showed up at the rodeo.. this whole story has gone back and forward time lines so its going to get really messy to follow.

This is one of those TV series, if you don't pay close attention to each episode, it's easy to lose track of wtf is happening. Sure the acting is good but it's kinda hard to follow

So... I don't go out of my way to be negative, but... anyone else feel this show was a massive load of crap? Only things it had going for it IMO were the acting performances (mostly) and the beautiful setting.

My thoughts are that it has a nice hook in the first few episodes but then the writers ran out of ideas and this disaster went down faster than the Titanic after it went under. Don’t bother. Take a bunch of random ideas, write them down on strips of paper, mix them with mud, throw them against a wall, dig them out, put them together, and that’s how these writers wrote this show. Don’t bother.

Autumn is one of the worst characters ive ever seen on screen - it's like the writers were just thinking about how to annoy the viewer. One of the most ridiculous shows since under the dome.

This is a convoluted plot in search of a meaning. All of you trying to read something into it are being mislead. Way too much innuendo and not enough continuity. Your interest is kept up by wanting to know what the hole was all about. For instance, how about the hole being a part of the great Yellowstone Caldera, and how people will be consumed when it erupts? Even the scenery is fake, CGI. Buffalo in a heard do not walk like that. The Tetons in the background are fake. I will say this, the acting was top notch.

Why creating these kind of too convoluted screenplays with lot of flaws in it?

1. Interesting story ideas. 2. Too many holes in the script. 3. Cinematography way too dark. 4. Pacing is much too slow. 5. Intriguing but ultimately disappointing.

I enjoyed the show a lot but it really fell apart towards the end. Some say this is to set up a season 2 but I'd wager they were just winging it and the plot grew so convoluted, they just had to end it. Autumn/Amy meeting "herself" in the same timeline creates a paradox and kind of ruined that aspect of the plot for me and the story lost any credibility, even for fiction. The cinematography was beautiful but I do agree it was too dark much of the time. The acting was superb with the exception of the Tillerson boys and their mother. The part of the Sheriff, while well acted, could have taken up much less of the show if not for the producers' desire to keep a woke presence alive throughout the series. Brolin was fantastic.
