I feel like this approach to fashion definitely means your look is more timeless - I don’t think any of these outfits will ever appear “out of style”, but be seen as more of a reflection of personal taste

I love how brown/tan colours look on you! I really see your personality and personal style in every outfit you create, which is really the best thing an outfit can do! Personally, I'm a huge fan of fun blouses and layering them with cosy jumpers or cardigans when the days get cold :)🍂

Fashion comes so easy to Ruby, and she's not even overextending herself to pull it off. There's nothing painful to wear, nothing she's going broke to buy. Nothing really wasted. It's amazing. This is a flawless queen. Edit: And she keeps it "Ruby" by saying "if there's anything you can take from this video, it's that rainhats are very useful" OMG so cute, and so Ruby.

I like Ruby's style in this video, but I wouldn't really say 'nothing she's going broke to buy, nothing really wasted'.. A lot of her current fashion style was formed back when she was buying & being gifted lots of clothes from Miss Patina, and it's not the kind of price range average people (not only students but also working adults) can feel comfortable with. She was promoting and mentioning the brand name pretty much all the time until very recently. I think she mentions buying secondhand and all that in this video to be more relatable to her audience and I appreciate the attempt, but her lucky position did play a huge role in her current wardrobe and style. Also, the dark/light academia 'essentials' or 'basics' are always way pricier than people might think, especially if you try to stay away from synthetic materials. I'm saying this because my style is similar to the ones in this video and I know how much it can cost.

@@roman-cu1cw Yes I'm sure she's been gifted some nice stuff, but if you watch how frugal she is, you can see she's not wasting her money on clothing. If it it's gifted then that's great, and she essentially is working for those gifts because she promotes brands and has built an audience. Not very easy to do. So I can't say being gifted is luck because she works hard. And she buys very high quality items that last a long time. Even if some of those staples are expensive, she wears them for a very long period of time. Her blazer was 8 years old and she bought it second hand. That is very fashion savvy to me.

This is such a refreshing approach to fashion. I've been trying to buy more staples and sustainable items and you make it look so approachable! I love that you have so many things you've owned for years and I do the same thing but it's the first time I've seen that on RU-vid. I'd love if you did more videos like this! Maybe one for each season or something?

The most important thing is, I think, the item itself as opposed to the brand -- it's so easy to get sidetracked by names when, as I said, we should just be looking for pieces that we like. Tights are one of the only things I'll buy new (understandably I think haha!) and I got my brown ones from John Lewis. My favourite tights are from Snag, it's probably the only brand I consciously buy because they're so hardy and long lasting - I'm super prone to laddering or ripping my tights and I've not managed to damage any of my Snag ones thus far, so they're far more sustainable than the old Primark ones I used to favour! If you're in the UK they're around £7 for just a standard pair but totally worth it in my opinion.

Absolutely - classic staples like you’ve shown are widely available secondhand, new, different price levels etc so it is the best way to do a lookbook! Those tights look great I find the 100% cotton ones don’t last very long - thanks for the reply!

The idea of dressing up for yourself is something I adore and have done for ages. Admittedly not when I’m just staying home but if I’m leaving the house I’m more than likely dressed nicely because I like to feel cute. I actually still buy tights from pennys(primark) but I buy their thicker types with fluff inside and they keep for ages without laddering

You can consider learning how to knit. You like knitted items, and you have a good grasp of what kind of style you gravitate towards. I think you fall into the group of people that benefit the most by learning how to knit their own jumpers and cardigans. Knitting is also easy to fit into your existing daily routine- I didn't really have to carve extra time because I knit mostly while I'm listening to audiobooks or watching netflix or youtube. I see that you dabble in creative hobbies from time to time (watercolour painting, sewing, etc.), and I thought you might find knitting really fulfilling and inspiring.

Loved hearing more about your style, Ruby! Have you ever thought about trying to sew or knit something you'd like? It might be a fun hobby! I'm preparing to knit my first cardigan as we speak. My grandmother used to make them for me and I thought it would be meaningful to try to create and wear my own.

I love sewing my own clothes. I love being able to make clothes that are either not purchasable or way too expensive. I just made a ~1950 inspired coat and i’m not only proud but so happy that I get to wear something so unique and special.

I love your outfits. They look perfect for autumn. 😊🍂 It's so much better buying just a few pieces that you really like and that you know you're going to get a lot of wear out of. I've had it so many times in the past where I've bought something in a shop just because I like it, but when I get it home I don't really feel comfortable wearing it, so I just default back to a set few pieces that I actually do love.

oh and don't forget, 35 outfit ideas are sooo beautiful when a insane amount of your wardrobe is gifted from various companies :) and you can always resell these gifted items for profit and then create some more aesthetic outfits! :) it's really not that hard

I just hope that everyone can feel safe or at least know what it is promoted to them :/ and calling it out can sometimes be the way of ensuring it

@Chiro치로 (there may be some triggering things so please stay safe x. ) So.. there's this thing called body-checking and it is quite present throughout the video (not just this one of course) and the use of old clips just to emphasize the difference on the weight (it's not the first time that old clips are being recycled within newer ones, with one explanation being to confuse the audience about what is happening or to have a real time comparison, or just being lazy to include new one idk). This isn't even the most harmful video that she has put out, but considering the fact that this is the one who is exclusively focused on body and measurements..well.. It doesn't take a trained eye to see these things and trust me, people who are struggling can and will immediately pick up on them. And of course my main MAIN concern is about the really young viewers who tend to praise and idolize every little thing without having the tools to recognize harmful behaviors and what this could mean to them or the person showcasing them

I personally wouldn’t wear most of these pieces, mainly coz I detests the colour brown for some reason🙈 but I love that you stick to your style and don’t follow social fashion norms! I’m getting really sick of wearing basic jeans and t shirts but I don’t know what else to wear😅

I wish the weather was cooler where I live, outfits with layers look so beautiful! On another note, I definitely agree with what you said about repeating outfits, I've been made fun of a lot for some reason for doing that, which never made sense to me, honestly.

I love wearing smart / casual - i.e. smart jeans, polo shirts, jumpers etc. I've never been one to wear tracksuits. But that's okay, and other people may prefer to wear tracksuits because they feel comfortable in them. We need to normalise wearing what we feel comfortable in, not wearing certain clothes because of societal pressure.

Oh my gosh, I don't know how I didn't know about this... when I say merino, I do usually mean merino-wool style (just any kind of thin knit), but this is obviously something to be so attentive to when shopping. Thank you for sharing this x

I generally wouldn't buy any new items that contain animal wool, downs or leather because you can be sure that animals had to suffer for it

@@Jollydeedledum but that means you'll need to wear synthetic fabrics that contain plastic? I personally wear wool because it's a natural fibre and better for the environment when it comes to recycling it etc. The polyester clothes will just end up in the landfill as they do in most fast fashion brands. And apart from maybe cotton I can't think of any other natural fibre

@@__-gn3tp I think once you see what is actually done to the sheep in standard wool production you might change your mind on this... Synthetic fibres can be recycled too, but cotton is also an option! Generally, second hand clothes are of course the best option for animals and the environment :)

I can't say that expensive tights have ever lasted me any longer than really cheap ones. Same for socks and underwear and some basics. Although I agree with the sustainability aspect of the idea, it is just not true (in my experience), and who can afford to buy expensive basics and keep throwing them away because they also break quickly.

You wear your wardrobe very well. Not many people could pull it off but it looks good on you. I would be curious to see what else you have in your wardrobe. Edit: I LOVE funky socks. I always wear them when I'm working as a kind of rebellion against smart clothes 😂
