it always bothers me when a larger artist sues a smaller artist, cause most of the time there’s no way the smaller artist did anything to damage the larger artist. That feels especially true here; it’s extremely implausible that OutKast has lost a cent over ATLiens using that name, this feels petty and vindictive.

Usually they try to settle out of court first, so it's /possible/ that Outkast tried to compromise and ATLiens wasn't willing.

My question is why Outkast took so long to notice ATLiens the group… if this lawsuit happened like 5 or so years ago, I’d give them some credibility here… but with the amount of time that has passed , the case is too far gone imo

That was different, there was a band already called Mastodon. It was 1 letter away from Mastadon. An artist using an album title as a name is different

I would understand maybe asking them to change their name but Making a lawsuit & demanding they pay a lot of money, especially given OutKast is such a big artist and is so much more popular than atliens is just insane I doubt OutKast has lost even a dime of money due to atliens’ name

Wouldn't fighting this case in court also mean ATLiens have to give up their anonymity? If Outkast hasn't been doing anything since 1996 with the name ATLiens it kinda feels like they are mad that two other people are earning money with a word they created. I think both artists are in a completely different subgroup of music that they shouldn't care too much about the name usage. ATLiens make bass centered Dubstep/Trap that's far from the stuff OutKast is making for it to be an issue You either are honored as an artist that people use a word you crafted and support it, or be mad an sue them to the ground for some money

aw come one, at least Disney was nice enough to give pluko a cease and desist when he went by pluto (which is still ridiculous btw). but a whole lawsuit??? over the name???? i dont know a whole lot about outkast but wow this makes them look bad.

I really hope this goes the way of Marvin Gaye’s estate v. Ed Sheeran. OutKast hasn’t even made music in over a decade, no one’s skipping out on an album that’s almost 30 years old because another group got inspired by that album’s name. Frankly, the fact that OutKast even has a case, is a massive failing of the ‘justice’ system to which we’re all subjected.

The fans of Atliens EDM were not even born when Outkast was relevant… there is no confusion going on. This is a money play 1,000%… waiting for the EDM group to get huge w followers and then try the lawsuit!? I hope OutKast gets nothing and is forced to pay legal fees to the defendants. If the name were so important for you to sue over, you should’ve trademarked it…. Ooops. Here’s a more novel approach… do a collab and split the proceeds. Both make money = win win

This is ridiculous.. outkast doesn't make music anymore.. and ATLIENS are now bigger than they've ever been.. but now they're salty cuz they want MONEY! nothing to do with the artwork or craft
