Welcome back Outlanders! I finally get to see just how despicable Captain Jack Randall really is. I was not prepared for how evil he could get and I now know this was just scratching the surface!

Claire travels through time but Jamie being a virgin is still the hardest thing to believe in this series 😂

Outlander has some dark\violent moments, but unlike many other shows (GoT and the like) OL isn't defined by them. It isn't afraid to show something unpleasant up close if it's relevant to the story\character journey, but it also doesn't make a spectacle out of the violence simply for shock value

I disagree, the show uses SA to have character “grow” in almost every season. The only difference than gOt was that both men and women experience it in this show… it’s a go to crutch by shows. I think it happens too much in the show.

No, this isn't where the show gets traumatic. This is level 5 of this show's 10.

Unfortunately, a single woman had little to no rights at the time, even one of Claire's fictitious high social standing. She was property of her father until he could marry her off, at which point she became property of her husband 😬

It has many scenes that are difficult to watch and a little traumatic yes, the level of graphics and detail is extreme. On the other hand, it has the most beautiful scenes ever made that fill the heart...to balance the emotions. If you can get past the first season, you'll have a beautiful road ahead of you. It's the most beautiful and powerful love story ever made.❤️

It's got many difficult scenes to get through, so i just want to let you know, if you're not in the right state of mind to watch such things right now, you can ofc set it aside until you feel up to it. As much as i'd love for you to react to this, i don't want to force anyone to watch something they're not ready to watch. Outlander got a lot of trauma happening, but what Outlander is also so good at is showing how strong our characters are and how much they help each other get through hard things that life brings. It's really one of my favourite shows ❤

Your reaction to Dougal is so different from mine. My reaction to him was similar to Claire - this guy's a total jerk and a womanizer and way too much of a hothead. Your reaction reminds me of Jamie's complicated relationship with him. He loves him because he's his uncle, but he doesn't trust him because Dougal is always out for himself first, clan second, Scotland third, and everything else can just burn. They left it out of the show, but in the books, Dougal actually tried to kill Jamie with an ax a few months before Claire appeared. The brain injury left Jamie without the ability to discern music. Jamie was careful never to be alone with Dougal after that. And Dougal has his own motivations for wanting the two of them married, though that isn't really explained for a few more episodes.

Wow he attacked him with an axe?! That’s terrifying. I wouldn’t trust the guy either after that. I do have a complicated relationship with him. I really like him. He’s interesting to me but hard to read. But Jamie is obviously the better man

@nataliebrunson1157 Год назад
@@ImonSnow Jamie didn't know it was Dougal at first, but he had his suspicions. Right after he was injured, he was exiled to France for a while. That explains why he is a little more cultured than those around him (also he grew up with a private tutor).

I myself am in trauma therapy for many different things & I'm OBSESSED with this series. I've read book series, I love it so so much, starting 5th round now & they're so beautiful & in depth you still learn & see more. The show I don't know how many times, especially first season. But it's not a light and airy show or series, after the episode The Reckoning (so good!!!) the season finishes off probably the darkest ever! It is historical fiction & it takes place during a dark, violent time especially for women. We were absolutely nothing to most but a piece of meat to own and use at will. This is probably the ONLY episode that I just LOVE of Dougal! Watch the next episode NOW!!! You're going to LOVE it!!! I can't wait for your reaction!!! It's the most intense, enduring, lovely love story ever. I think love is always coming back to the table.

Love your perspective on "good" and humanity - I think that is one of the reasons Outlander resonates for so many people - it is more about the exploration of the complexity of humans and how no one is all good or all evil, but our choices lead us one way or another. Love your sensitive analysis and care for these characters as you watch.

Dont be shy or embarrassed in the least bit to cry!! I bet at least half of the Outlander fans ball their eyes out to so many of the beautiful, sad, thought provoking, lovely and not so lovely moments. We’re crying along with you!! This episode was intense but so good. And theres so much to come!!!! Thank you for what you do! Love your commentary at the end/beginning of your reactions, it’s a thousand times better than watching Outlander alone! Take care!

Ahh, Imon, what a delight you are! It is a pleasure and a privilege to re-see my favorite show through your direct, kind, philosophical, and gentle eyes and soul! I love to see what brings you to tears, both the horrific and the beautiful. Same here. I love Outlander’s directness and truth too, as well as the story’s complex characters such as Dougal and all the Highlanders. I suppose it’s the streak of autism in me that has led to my complete obsession with this show, and that love has spilled over to the actors, producers, crew, and writers as well. They seem almost as obsessed with bringing us truth and directness as as the viewers are with the show. Besides which, this story is the historically true story of my family, right through book nine of the series of books upon which it is based, which includes the Battle of Kings Mountain in the American Revolution. There is no story-telling anywhere on TV that is true like this show is true, historically or real life-wise. Oh. Except for maay…beeee Jamie. 😂 Few of us have ever met someone as wonderful (and luscious) as Jamie, but it is said that there are those out there who come a little close. And even our beloved Jamie is an exceedingly complex character.

You made an interesting point in this reaction "it's like racism but they are the same colour" and there is actually a term for that which surprisingly lots of people do not know, it's called "xenophobia" and basically means "Attitudes, prejudices and behavior that reject, exclude and often vilify persons, based on the perception that they are outsiders or foreigners to the community, society or national identity" BTW just discovered your channel I absolutely love your reactions 🥰

Merci. Delphine from France. I discovered your reactions and analyzes a few days ago. I love your sensitivity and your understanding of human relationships. I have been following this series for a short time, I was very surprised by its narrative quality, the beauty of the landscapes, the lights, the absolutely believable costumes and the acting of the actors ohhh la la, they are so fair. I am absolutely in love with Graham MacTavish, what a Dougal! You are, I believe, the only one to really talk about this character who for me carries the series enormously, what a pity that he disappears so quickly. A real pleasure to follow you in the analysis of this series. THANKS.

I think history has proven that people absolutely don’t need to be a different skin color to hate each other. Look at the way the English treated the Irish/Scottish, the way the Nazis treated the Jews, the way various African ethnicities treat Pigmies, the way the Turks treated Arabs/Kurds, or the way The Japanese treated the Chinese/Koreans. I think we in America are very obsessed with skin color as the central focus of bigotry, but racism and hatred comes in many forms. I’ve talked to some Scottish people and the sort of (racist?) treatment towards them from some English people still lingers to a certain degree. There is a lot of deep rooted animosity between the Scots and English. Even though Scottish people are have been British for a long time now I think many of them have never really felt completely accepted. Any Scots feel free to correct me I guess.

you're very right. xenophobia vs racism. a lot of times they are closely linked, but they are very different concepts you don't need to look different, merely be viewed as an 'other' or ' outsider' in any way to a xenophobic person or culture

I'm Welsh, and certainly the British Isles were, and still are, dominated by England (except for the Republic of Ireland now, and look what it took to gain their independence). However, the growing support for Scottish and Welsh independence reflects the increasing dissatisfaction with what is, because of the way Parliament is formed, effectively English rule. This situation has particularly gathered pace since the Brexit referendum.

There's a lot of truth about the enmity between Scotland and England. It does still exist, though not really between the people, more between the governments. Westminsters' attitude to Scotland is to pretend we don't exist. Also there's the annoying fact that despite us all using pounds sterling, most English shops will refuse Scottish banknotes.

It's not racist when they're literally the same race, you don't understand racism. The USA (America is a CONTINENT not a country) doesn't only see bigotry as racism, considering what's been happening with women's rights and the rights of LGBT communities, you should probably know this by now.

It's important to remember what's going on in the rest of the world during this time. It helps to give a better view of history. It shows that most of our history from that time wasn't about colour, but English world domination. The English oppressed everyone they could in order to build their empire. While you watch the English oppress the Scottish here in Scotland, the English are also getting rich building America using the slave trade while also eliminating the Native American way of life. This show is great at letting you see history

Alright, as a historian I can't really not speak up on the bias of the show's narrative. See, the Jacobite rebellion was never about this romanic notion of "freedom" for the Scots, they were full in on London as the powerbase for the United Kingdom (a United Kingdom whose creation they willingly partook in via a treaty in 1707) the rebellion was religious. The Jacobites instigated hostilities because they were resentful of a protestant king on the throne and wanted to reinstate the ousted catholic Stuart dynasty, a dynasty with Scottish blood. They didn't want to break free from London, they just wanted their own man in power there. The show portrays the English, as so many a media has done, as oppressive tyrants when in fact, the English were the defenders in this civil war, defending their king and country. Not to forget also, that Scotland itself wasn't unified in disdain for the English, the entire lowlands were loyalists.
