Hi! Love your channel 😊 well I came across Outlander on Netflix back in 2016 and after the first episode I was hooked! Once I found out it was based on books, I bought the whole series and couldn’t stop reading 😍 I love both the books and the tv show, but I’ll always favor the books. Diana Gabaldon is an amazing writer and story teller ❤️

Thank you so much for your work. I'm going back to the very first book and your first review since I only came across your reviews later in the series. I say good on you - well done.

I picked up Outlander as I live in Scotland and so I thought it would be a great read, I've only read the first book and I really liked it.

I have read all the books and love the show. I just don't always agree about everything the show covers but I am a fan so I will watch . The books are 600 pages so I know that is a lot of material. Just enjoy it for all that it.

The scene of Jamie's rape in the first book actually is not in the book because it is written solely in Claire's point of view.

Jamie relates what happened to him at Wentworth when he and Claire are at the Abbey in France.

Loved this! I agree, it's so hard to find Outlander reviews anywhere. I have just finished reading the first book myself after finally getting around to watching the TV show too (better late than never haha). I love this review as I have been desperate to hear someone else opinion on it. Especially when comparing the book and show. Oh, Frank! I agree, poor Frank. I really wanted to like him as he is innocent in all that happens but it was hard to not just see him as the "nice, safe bet" both in the book and on the TV show. I also wanted to not get absorbed into the whole Claire and Jamie relationship. I tried so much to be on Frank's side but the writing was sooo good I couldn't help but want him and Claire to stay together. I was so torn the whole time between the two as I wanted to not like Jamie, but he was so well written that even as a reader you fall a bit in love with him (sorry Frank). I could rattle on so much more but I don't think RU-vid will give me anymore characters to type with! Can't wait to hear what you think of the rest of the series.

Yay! I'm glad you liked it so much! I am loving this reread and I am eager to talk about it. The first time through, I didn't know how I would feel about Jamie and that Claire was already married. But now, I just wait for her to move on already! I think the time travel brings Claire to her soulmate. And I love that. I love that it can exist to bring your hearts desire, even if YOU don't think you need it. That's just how I think of it sometimes. I don't know how far into the books you are, but when I look at each situation, that's how I see it

@@TheBookRefuge I am 110 pages off from finishing the second book at the moment. Yes! You hit the nail on the head with the bringing of people together with their soulmate, even if they don't know it at the time. I think that is what pulls at the emotions so much as it is not a straight forward run-of-the-mill fairy-tale romance. It is visceral and real and as a reader, I feel like you go through it all with the characters. The more you get to know of Jamie, you realise he isn't this hunky knight in shining armour (or in his case tartan) who always does the honourable thing. You see him for his flaws and vulnerabilities. You experience his struggles internally and externally and that makes him all the more human. And it isn't just Jamie of course, it's Claire too and her struggles and in a weird way Black Jack Randall. Trying to understand where he is coming from with all his darkness is a psychologist's dream.

Claire is nothing like the series. She looks different in the book. And when I watched the series I almost stopped because Claire looked nothing like the book description. But after awhile she played the part very well and i kind of let go of the disappointment of that. Jamie's character is exactly like the book in every single way

Haha! Yeah, the show Claire grew on me over the years. But I agree, Jamie is perfection and he's only gotten better as the years go on.
