Well, I've loved the song “Back At One” for many years and adore Brian McKnight, so I just had to use that song, even though at first glance it's probably not the typical choice for an Outlander video. But when I started editing the video, I realized that it fits Jamie and Claire amazingly well. The chorus in particular is on point, with every statement when it comes to Jamie's feelings, emotions and intentions towards Claire. Just lovely🫠.
It's hard for me to summarize or explain the song, it's actually self-explanatory. It's the structure that I like so much (apart from that wonderful voice and the musical staging). It's like a kind of agenda, a plan, a list of someone who has fallen in love. It's a constant wooing, reassuring and raving with the intention of convincing his beloved of his feelings and their sincerity, but also simply an expression of these feelings - again and again.
The chorus can be accompanied by images from all OL seasons and the verses also offer different interpretations. I decided to start the song with season 3, i.e. the time after Claire's return and tell it from Jamie's point of view. The 40-second intro to the song was problematic and gave me a headache at first. I took the liberty of shortening it by a good half, and no, the abrupt onset of the beat after the piano part is not due to my lack of editing skills, the transition into the song is just like that. I could have started there and cut out the piano part completely, but I liked the idea of creating a visual intro as well. So the dancers at the stones stand for fate and providence and form a kind of transition to the first line of text. I think that worked quite well and perhaps the circle will close at the end😉
I'm curious to see how you like Jamie's 5-point plan and look forward to your feedback. Enjoy watching, Sassenachs❤️🧡🩷

Again you have created a thing of beauty Chris, the dance sequence at the standing stones is captivating with its magical atmosphere and air of serenity that has the ability to transport you to another dimension, these lyrics by Brian McKnight are also magical, your a true wizard when it comes to choosing the right ones to fit Jamie & Claire’s love story 💞 I recently watched a romantic movie in which there was a line that went ‘Once you’ve been kissed by the one you truly love you stay kissed’ I was blown away by those simple words because that is how I feel about Jamie & Claire’s true love 💗 I guess I’m just an old romantic at heart! 😘🥰🥀🤗

Thank you, Bernice. The text is actually so simple and yet so beautiful and meaningful. Sometimes the beauty lies in simplicity. That also applies to your movie quote. Beautiful. We romantics just get along. Thank you so much for your warm words, I appreciate each of your comments. By the way, I have started working on your wish😉 See you soon, take care😘

Thank you, Diane, the song and the lyrics invited me to use these very special scenes. No drama for once, this time it was all about their love. I thought of you when I added and edited your favorite scene. I knew you would enjoy it😁 I decided to slowly zoom into the scene so you can see their eyes and emotions even more clearly. Hardly, - Brian McKnight is an American singer (R&B performer), songwriter, actor, record producer and much more. He probably had his greatest successes in the 90s and early 2000s. Depending on how old you are and what music you prefer, you may or may not know him...🤷🏼‍♀️

This may be my favorite...🥲 First I like how you bookended it with mystery and unexplainable power - the stones. To me this is the perfect framework for their relationship. There had to be some sort of mysterious other-worldly intervention orchestrating their paths in order for Jamie & Claire to fulfill their unique destiny. That she would "accidentally" travel through time and find him almost immediately? Some higher power was at work - and yet - something was set in motion that had a force and drive all its own. Love. No wonder they are spellbinding... I like the musical intro that sets it up, too - and the dramatic pause before the song actually starts. So old-school and romantic. Like a movie. The second time when she went back, the powerful love drawing them inexorably back together was so strong that nothing would stop her from being with him again, no matter the risk or cost. That's why I appreciate that you started with her return to the past. This time she chose to fall back in time to be with him. She didn't need the stones to draw her to him anymore. Love did the work. To see each other again - the shock on his face - hers glowing. And then their kiss after so many dreams of doing just that... Can you imagine waking up to each other after decades? The wonder! It was hard to believe it wasn't a dream. You even snuck in his big mistake - Laoghaire. And the part where he explained it all to her. That all really worked with the lyrics. What a great setup! It was complicated with Laoghaire and very difficult. The girls were the only benefit of that marriage. But with Claire, it was easy - Back at One. This 1-2-3-4-5 song is so Jamie. It's not complicated. He simply loves Claire with all his heart. She's the vaguely formed woman of his dreams that he couldn't see clearly until he saw her. He adores her and loves being with her no matter what they're up to. We see it in his eyes. I believe him just by watching the way he is with her. No other woman could ever, ever take her place in Jamie' heart. And the same for Claire. One true love - forever. 💘💖 When they have to be apart he can't wait to be back with her again. He lights up and so does she. They are home to each other. Their life is challenging a lot of the time, yet they find strength, pleasure and comfort in each other. In the song we see that Jamie doesn't take what they have for granted. He makes her fall in love with him over and over again by showing her what she means to him. He is intentional - they both are. That's why I like the song so much. The chorus and those special moments shows us that Jamie is desperately in love and will tirelessly circle round and show her the same thing again and again. Jamie and Claire are open, intense, passionate, carefree and straightforward, depending on the situation, freely expressing their thoughts and emotions from A-Zed. That's what we all long for. And of course, their rare passion. You always choose just the right moments. You're so good at this and at finding the right songs! Honestly, the scenes you chose to underscore the lyrics are mesmerizing to me because of the close up shots of their eyes and facial expressions, which let us see the love between them, even without hearing their words. I'm glad you used that scene in the barn after Malva's accusation. The look in his eyes...so layered. You must have slowed down the film a bit in some of the other scenes too because I see subtle nuances of expression in their eyes that I've not seen before. I could look into their eyes forever. They are so beautiful together, it hurts. The love I see there! Say farewell to the dark of night I see the comin' of the sun I feel like a little child, whose life has just begun You came and breathed new life Into this lonely heart of mine You threw out the lifeline Just in the nick of time That says it all. And I'm in tears, as always. I know if I go back and watch your other videos I'll find old favorites. But this one, the music and the scenes, are exquisitely expressive of the love between them. And once again, praise to Sam and Cait, who have experienced a rare, great love through Jamie & Claire, and have been amazing at bringing them to life in the most true way possible. They've made Diana's story real. And you've reminded me of it - again. 🥲😘

“I can control my destiny, but not my fate. Destiny means there are opportunities to turn right or left, but fate is a one-way street. I believe we all have the choice as to whether we fulfil our destiny, but our fate is sealed.“ Paulo Coelho I came across this quote recently and have been thinking about it a lot, also in relation to Jamie and Claire. Claire didn't fall through the stones by accident, her destiny was written a long time ago. And now when you add in the temporal and spatial component, there are parts of her story that suggest that this fate is repeating itself as hard-written. When Frank talks to Reverand Wakefield about his ancestor BJ in the very first episode, they also talk about the role of the Lord of Sandringham. It's mentioned that he died mysteriously just before Culloden. Now we know how that happened. And although Claire hasn't even gone through the stones yet, it seems to have already happened. This suggests that this is not the first time her fate has been fulfilled. The same goes for the fact that Frank knew through his research long before Claire did that she would return to Jamie, that he hadn't died. The obituary for Tom Christie could only be written when the past had already occurred. And the fate of her patient Graham Menzies also seems to be intertwined with her own. Menzies' death takes her back to Scotland, where she meets Roger and learns that Jamie not only survived Culloden, but also the years that followed, that he is still alive. Apparently it was Roger's destiny to lead Claire back to Jamie and follow her fate. So her return was as preordained as her first trip into the past. The more interesting and far more complicated aspect is destiny. Do you really have the choice whether to follow your destiny or not or would fate intervene? Or are fate and destiny ultimately the same thing? Was Jamie really destined to fight at Culloden and if so why? Was BJ fated to die there by Jamie's hand? Does the fate of others influence one's own destiny? Could Claire have evaded her destiny to be with Jamie and chosen not to return? Was her destiny only with Jamie or was she also destined to guide the fate of others by using her knowledge? 🧐🤔A fascinating topic that you could philosophize about for hours. There's a certain mysticism to the whole thing that gives Jamie and Claire's story that certain something, and the first line of the song "it's undeniable that we should be together" was a great way to pick up on that theme as an intro. I've already told you that there's a passage in the lyrics that I find a bit inappropriate. It's the second line "it's unbelievable how I used to say that I'd never fall". Jamie certainly never said or thought anything like that. It was always his wish and desire to fall in love and have a marriage for love, just like his parents did. To find that one woman that his father once said he would recognize when she stood in front of him. He has always believed in love. In my head, this line of text stands for the time after Claire left. It was clear to him that there could be no replacement for her, that he would never fall in love AGAIN. I tried to include the scene when Jenny in Surrender tries to convince him that it's not too late to remarry and start a family and he vehemently replied that he would never marry again. But it didn't work. So I preferred to leave it at the magic of that moment, when they are both so happy and so inspired that they are really together again, in reality, not just in their dreams. Wallowing in memories and happiness and the realization that the special thing between them is still there. The thought I will never fall in love again, never love again, is obsolete and absurd at this moment. The love of his life is back. The basis in need to know if you don’t know just how I feel… Yes, Claire has a need to know (like him), and he needs to tell her about Laoghaire and how it came and what it meant, which is nothing. A feeble attempt to fill the void in his life. She knows this emptiness and loneliness, she once tried to fill it too. His honesty was crucial for their love, so as not to lose her trust, and therefore an important pillar of their relationship. Later, he will joke about it and tease her about her jealousy, which he liked, but it was a dicey situation for their relationship. I think her reaction made sure that any uncertainty he had about the reasons for her return was removed. - “then let me show you now that I‘m for real…“ You're right, it's the lightness and simplicity of the song that is so fitting. Both find their way back into Jamie's life, although Claire always means complications. She is what makes his life worth living and what fills it. Making Claire happy, showing and proving his love to her, being allowed to love her and getting the same back from her is all that matters. This 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 is somehow symbolic of that. And yes, the back at one - everything at zero, a new beginning, finally the opportunity to be with the love of your life and that is celebrated, appreciated, enjoyed anew every day. There are countless beautiful scenes that reflect these emotions and it was wonderful to edit the video. You're right, I slowed down some of the sequences and also made use of the option to zoom in slowly on some of them or enlarge them overall. The quality sometimes suffers, but you capture their emotions better. You wouldn't believe how many little things you discover when you look at scenes in slow-mo, in millisecond increments. Gestures, facial expressions, the smallest movements in their faces. A twitching corner of the mouth, tense jaw muscles, a mischievous or embarrassed smile, a flash of recognition, surprise, shock. And their eyes - OMG, what happens in them is indescribable😮🫠. The change in their pupils, the light, happiness and distress that spreads or goes out in their eyes. It highlights the incredible acting of the two of them. You really have to be in character, feel it, to convey that, to make your body trigger reflexes that it only does in response to stimuli. Pupils constrict or dilate depending on the light, but also due to emotions. You can see this in them, especially in Sam/Jamie, without any obvious light source. So he must have felt what he was playing. That is impressive and once again testifies to the immense trust that must exist between these two actors to open up like this, to make themselves vulnerable. There are also some scenes in which it can be assumed that they really were completely naked, without any intimate protection. But I won't go into any more detail here. Of course, a lot of help is given to trigger physical reactions or to make it look as if they are there. But some things simply can't be simulated, it's all down to the actor's ability, the gift of being completely absorbed by their role, of becoming that character. The bridge you quoted "say farewell to the dark of night..." really says it all and it invariably contains favorite scenes of mine. From the desolation, hopelessness and loneliness in prison to the appearance of his sun (with the appropriate filter). The teasing and flirting on the ship with a slightly drunk Claire. There is something very youthful, playful, carefree about the scene, yet it contains sizzling eroticism, as if they are just discovering each other and what is between them, as they did so many years ago. On the night of her return, she truly breathed life back into his heart. I love these tender scenes from A. Malcolm💔❤️. His eyes just before their first kiss (I just had to zoom in here), the way they undress and touch, tenderly, savoring the moment, tentatively yet with purposeful naturalness, Claire unsure about the change in her body, Jamie enchanted by her beauty, the traces of time invisible to him. The singing at the end of the bridge, the voice rising and reaching its climax "in the nick of time" gives me goosebumps and the images chosen reinforce this effect as well as the knowledge of what this moment meant for the two of them. A moment that changed their lives and was the beginning of what they had longed for so long. A life together. Oh, how I‘ve missed your analysis and the exchange with you. I’m delighted that you share your thoughts with me🥰. I enjoy it very much and look forward to the next time. 1000 thanks 🙏🏼😘

@@tunes4pics No wonder I saw things here that I hadn't seen before! Your editing opened those scenes up! I experienced them as if it was the first time because of that. Thank you! I've watched this several times now. I too, noticed things like the pupils dilating, and some of the things you enumerated. I love seeing those fleeting human responses that indicate they really experience what we see. Sam & Caitríona truly are are totally immersed in their roles. And now they have a decade of an emotional history together as Jamie and Claire. They can draw on years of visceral memories playing their characters. They both say that Jamie & Claire are closer because they have personally grown closer as well. It's a parallel that works for the show and for them as people. What amazing synergy! I'm in awe of it. Just the other day, I saw an interview where Sam said that the biggest thing he's taking away from the show is his close friendship with Cait. They love each other to pieces and are bonded for life. How could they not be, given what they've experienced together. You're right, the subject of fate and destiny is a subject for lots of debate. Frankly, the idea of destiny being set in stone, or fate - is disturbing to me. I like free will. Choice. Were Jamie and Claire merely lucky chess pieces on a cosmic game board? Was BJR destined/fated to become the embodiment of evil with no personal choice in the matter? That would certainly accord with the Greek idea of capricious gods playing with humanity. But I think that is terrifying! As you know, I'm a hopeless romantic. I can accept the stones drawing two people together over time and space because they acted on some kind of mystical foreknowledge of what would be. They acted out of that circular time mystery that is hard to understand or unravel. I like the how priest at the Abbey in France was not at all put off by what Claire had experienced. He could see the hand of God and was not disturbed that her story didn't fit a known pattern of life. There is room for mystery. I like that. And I like believing that I have a say in my life no matter if my choices are sound or stupid. I can learn from mistakes. How can we can we put a puzzle together if we don't have all the pieces? That's my own approach to this story and to real life, anyway. I've learned to live with mystery. And I do believe in an all-knowing, all-powerful, loving and just God that has no darkness within. But the issue of free will versus pre-destiny or destination has not been settle by theologians over the ages. I don't presume to have the definitive answer. And I respect that Diana, a staunch Catholic, has given us fodder for thought. She's not afraid to put forth scenarios that combine myth, faith and pagan belief, leaving us to deal with the questions that arise. I love that! And this has been such a great discussion. I've got to say, you're detailed sharing of what you were thinking as you put this together makes the view all the richer. What a feast! 😋

@@thevicarage9841 You're right, the idea that everything is irrevocably predetermined is unsettling. I thought long and hard about whether I agreed or disagreed with the quote. But no szeneario has come up with a clear answer. As a romantic, I do believe that there are people who are simply meant to be together. But what they make of it, or what I make of my own life, is in my own hands, my own decisions. Whether they are right or wrong, they determine my life. I can't undo them, but I can learn and grow from them and thus find my way through life. Or in Jamie's words: “I’ve always known I’ve lived a life different from other man. And when I was a lad, I saw no path before me. I simply took a step and then another. Ever forward, ever onward, rushing toward someplace, I knew not where. And one day I turned around and looked back, and saw that each step I‘d taken was a choice to go left, to go right, to go forward or even not go at all. Every day, every man has a choice between right and wrong. Between love and hate. Sometimes between life and death. And the sum of those choices becomes your life. The day I realized that is the day I became a man.“ So yes, I do believe in free will and in being able to direct my own life. Maybe I also believe in something like destiny, but I don't believe in a prescribed fate that happens no matter what I do or what decisions I make, I don't want to believe in that. DG's books are really packed with things worth thinking and philosophizing about. I love that, just as much as discussing them with you. What an enrichment😘
