OUTLANDER'S MOST IMPORTANT LOCATION? Suffering from Droughtlander? Fear not, Outlander fans, I am here to tide you over. Last week we visited Lallybroch, and today I'm taking you to what I believe is the anchor point so far in Outlander - one of several. It's the place (other than Craigh na Dun) that we keep returning to. It's 1940's Inverness - or actually, Falkland, the wee town in the Kingdom of Fife in real life.

Thanks so much for this video of Faulkand (AKA "1940's Inverness"), Shaun. Had to laugh around the 2:30 mark when you put on a long-sleeved shirt because "it's a wee bit cold here". There is a part in the beginning of one of Diana Gabaldon's books, I believe it's 'Voyager' (book3 in the Outlander series), where Claire laments that Scots in 20th century had become a bit soft. Unlike the Highlanders of the 18th century who could travel the roads on horseback in nothing but a kilt and homespun shirt, 'modern' men needed boots, coats, scarves, etc. Not that we're any tougher in the 21st century, eh? I especially enjoyed your interview with Jeanette from Nicaragua (now living in the U.S.). I think she is a typical Outlander fan, so cool to see how international we fans all are. Also enjoyed your drone footage, feel like I was there with you. Slainte! ~Diana from Toronto, Canada

My husband and I have been doing our own Outlander tour and it has taken us to parts of our own country we had never thought of visiting. Lallybroch has been our favourite so far. We have been told by other “Outlanders” that we have made their day as we always play the theme on our visits. Loving your vlogs.

Seems like Outlander is almost just an excuse for people to sell Scotland, but in the best kind of way. No official tourism center could have done a better job to make sure people get cravings for seeing Scotland and I think that the tourist offices are doing quite a good job nevertheless.

Scotland completely blew my mind. I had no idea what I was in for. I had seen all of Europe, many times over, living briefly in many countries, and didn’t think anything was left that could surprise or astound me that I hadn’t already seen. Paris, Prague, Barcelona, Rome, etc, etc. Scotland is unique unto itself. Wow, it’s kind of indescribable. It’s so unique, so unlike anything I’ve ever experienced.

Glad I did as I've really been enjoying your show & have watched several vids now - especially upon discovering you loved Outlander too!!! I really enjoyed this one in peticular though! Not just cause of the Outlander conections, but because this town is so amazingly beautiful!!!😍 I have been watcing another guy that does walks around England as it helps me feel connected to my English roots. We were introduced to your Vlog thru Scottish Lass and so happy we followed the link. We absolutely enjoy your Vlog and appreciate the places you visit and the love you put into your journeys. I'm a MacLean my family is from Bunessan on Mull. We just returned from 6 weeks in Scotland. We traveled the East Coast up to Inverness by train and stayed in Inverness and Stirling. We spent several days enjoying so many new sites. We went to Culloden battlefield I never thought it would make me feel so emotional. Our Clan sent 288 clansmen and only 33 returned.. and as always we visited Edinburgh. Finally after a good while exploring we took the train to Oban and the Ferry to Mull where 700+ MacLeans gathered for our clan reunion. Every 5 years we gather on the isle. Moran Taing for your Vlog and if ya ever get to it go visit Castle Duart seat of the Clan MacLean and say hello to Sir Lachlan our clan chief..... we shall be watching and enjoying your travels .... I have to say it's interesting to hear from a male Outlander fan and also from a Scottish one. I haven't met or encountered many men who are interested by the show although as I can from your vlogs there's lots to catch the attention of anyone. It's also intriguing to me that Scottish schools aren't teaching this bit of Scottish history. Would you say that kids in Scotland get any decent Scottish history? Gotta admit the combo of Outlander and your vlogs have got me tempted to do an Outlander tour.

Yeah, I'd have to second that . . there should be more male fans with all the swords & battles and interesting male characters! How can they not teach about the Jacobite uprisings in Scottish schools? That seems quite shocking . . .

Shaun (and everyone else): I definitely recommend reading the books. More details than the tv series, and sometimes the series veers away from the books in order to make sense for the viewers. I just finished listening to book 3 in preparation for season 3. This is my 3rd time through the series of books.

Just found your RU-vid channel as I only recently discovered Outlander - late to the party I know! Thanks to the lock down I was able to fall down the rabbit hole and watch the first 3 seasons over the course of a couple of weeks. My ancestors emigrated from England and Ireland to the US and possibly Scotland in the 19th century and as an American, I'm very unhappy that Jamie and Clare left Scotland. Season 1 is still my favorite and I want to know more about Scotland's history. The last thing I want to watch is a depiction of my own country's god awful, bloody history of genocide and slavery! I can understand why Diana Gabalon wanted to take the series to Colonial America, but I still think there were missed opportunities for possible stories set in 18th century Scotland - or even other time periods in Scotland, since this fantasy is about time travel. I've been curious about how Scots view the series so thank you for getting into the subject on your channel. Have you found that fans of the show in Scotland are disappointed too?

Casually adding all the the Outlander locations you visit to my prospective Scotland visit in about a year. Quick question: how possible is all the touring you've been doing without a car? Is Falkland an easy bus or train ride from Edinburgh?

Ruth Kendrick I took a n 8 day tour through Inverness Tours. It was specifically designed as an Outlander tour. Diana mentioned Hugh Allison as an outstanding tour guide. Hugh runs Inverness Tours. All of their guides are highly educated on the show and filming sites. They even showed us some season three sites.

Ruth, you could also ask Mary's Meanders, who are based in Linlithgow just west of Edinburgh and get yourself a one day tour of the near vicinity, with them providing transport. I think they do other tours that are a bit longer as well but look them up on the web. They are Outlander fans, so know the locations well. Here's their Outlander tours page: www.marysmeanders.co.uk/outlander-tours/

Hey Ruth, thanks for the comment. I think a lot of these places would be very diffilcukt to get to without a tour guide as some are very remote

From the OS map it looks like Landbank is the nearest train station and is about 3.5 mile from Falkland. For me thats an hour walk each way. The train is £20.50 return. The same train stops at Glenrothes before that and is 4.7mile but as a very large town it probably has a bus service to Falkland and plenty of taxis . If I find bus and taxi info I will let you know here. I plan to use public transport for my trip..

Hi Shaun: I'll be in Scotland in a couple of weeks (coming from Canada) and am very excited for my visit and I'm using your vlog for ideas for day trips! Totally of topic and random but can you recommend a tattoo artist in Edinburgh? TIA

Laura McCurdy hey Laura, that's awesome. Actually I can - look for Studio Vii in Edinburgh and ask for Sarah Louise. BUT contact them asap because their waiting times can be months as they're very popular.

I came into the show after episode 4 of the first season had been shown!I was hooked after she woke up in the past and almost got raped by Black Jack Randall!I fukn love when they speak Gaelic and theres no subtitles!just like when One Stab talks to Brad Pitt in Legends of the Fall movie!something between the actors themselves and not the viewers!

I'm confused (nothing new), when Frank first parks his car, isn't it on the wrong side of the road (where you parked)? One way street?

A block off the main road is the stand in for Inverness in the 1700s..where Black Jacks brother was ill and died in an apartment. Can't upload a photo here but will send you one via messenger.

Invereness is our nearest big town, we live North, and although there are lovely parts of Inverness the center has been destroyed with many historic buildings neglected and run down. The 60's and 70's did much to take away its charm.
