I really like my Outlaw 5000. I bought it for use with a used Arcam preprocessor but the hum in the Arcam was unrepairable so I found a used Marantz SR7005 receiver. This unit was no slouch in its day but when I use the Outlaw amp instead of the Marantz internal amps the sound is so much better! The Outlaw was so inexpensive and it kills the Marantz for control of my Sonus Faber 3.0 towers. What would be a reasonable step up from the Outlaw? I’m now hooked on the improvements one can get from swapping equipment. It will be my financial ruination no doubt!

I'm running a Z97 Hero board with supreme Fx 2014 onboard audio directly to the amp. Pushing KLF-30's. Sounds amazing for an hour or so at 80 volume on the meter in windows 10 until I overheat the amp at 76 degrees ambient temperature.

Great review Audioholics crew. After watching this video and some additional research I purchased the Outlaw 7700 (7-channel) and the Outlaw 5000 (5-channel). I use them both with my Marantz AV7702MKII pre-pro and run 11 channels. I recently remodeled my primary listening room and moved things around. After reconnecting everything back up I noticed a lot of noise coming from the Outlaw 5000. It appears maybe I'm getting bit by the poor chassis grounding issues you brought up in this review? I tried running a wire from chasis to chasis in an attempt to provide a common chassis ground to each device. This helped a little but I still get "the buzz" or "the hiss". I'd love to hear any suggestions you may have.

I recently purchased a five-year-old outlaw audio 7125, does that one also have more power than the 125 W? Also does that one also have any grounding issues and should I also not go off the back label as far as my center channel speakers etc.

Great review! Could you answer a quick question? I'm running a pair highly modified Klipsch Quartets off a Denon AVR-3805 strictly for music listening, two-channel stereo. I am curious whether an upgrade to something like this would improve SQ at higher volumes..The SQ of the Denon kind of falls apart at its highest volumes and just starts sounding kind of "noisy", with less articulation, control and musical separation. Supposedly my AVR is 120wpc x 7, but in 2-channel mode I believe it is supposedly rated at 139wpc x 2 @ 8ohms (which on paper seems very good to me for what I am trying to do with it) I really don't need 5-channels of amplification, but rather high quality 2-channel audio. I am interested in Outlaw's price/performance. Can you recommend this or any other good separate amp to connect to my AVR? Or would I probably not notice any difference since I am not really taxing my AVR, as it is only running 2-channel..

I just purchased the Outlaw 7000x to pair with my Pioneer ScLX 801. Balance connection is not possible so what would your suggestion be for cables to connect the units?

Thanks for the awesome reviewsnover the years Gene & Hugo! Your review on the Oppo BDP 105 was the clincher for me buying it. The Outlaw is a 5.1 Power amp. Would be great if you could let us know if there are good power amp offerings in the 7.1 channel domain as well. Once again, Thanks a ton guys and keep on doinf the good work! You guys rock!!!

So if I were to use the FL & SL channels to bi-amp my front L speaker, would I have to use a RCA Y-Splitter (2 Male to 1 Female) in both unbalanced inputs on the Outlaw 5000 (The FL/SL input) then a single male RCA from the Outlaw 5000 to the unbalanced FL speaker input on the receiver? Then at that point, after adding the +/- speaker wires from both inputs from my speakers (Bass to the FL terminal and the mid/high to the SL speaker terminals of the Outlaw 5000, my Front Left speaker would then be bi-amped, correct?

suggestion: maybe have the chassis of the amp off so the viewer can see the power supply you are talking about. But very glad to see an outlaw review. Thanks Gene and Hugo also would love to know your thoughts on the new B&W CM series especially the bookshelf CM s2 and 5

I agree that most AV Receivers are under-powered for low impedance and low efficiency speakers but the Outlaw offers very little power increase for the money especially since it can't run in bridged mode. There are lots of pro-amps that offer many times the power of this amp for less money, not to mention their other features. I would really love to see a blindfold test between these "audiophile" AB amps and any of the pro-amps (eg: Crown XLS 1500), when paired with a modern AV Receiver.

Glenn Watkins exactly to the point, but ati made equipment, like this outlaw, is FIRST rate engineering. But $600 is not good price to performance. Have my ati amp bought used 20 years ago & runs still like new, 180 watts for each of 5 channels.

Literally i juat bought this exact same setup. Got a Marantx sr7012 for $749 as a factory refurb and a brand new outlaw 5000. Infinity Primus P362 frons, PCS350 center channel and P152 rears. 4x JBL Studio2 6.5" 2 way ceiling speakers for Atmos. Currently using a Pioneer SC-LX502, but those towers and the center channel crave more power. Ill report back in a week or two when everything is hooked up.

@Lift1One correct. Sc-lx502 is a Class D 9.2 receiver without preouts. The SC-lx501 is 7.1 with preouts and class D. The new vsx-lx503 is a Class AB 9.2 receiver with preouts. I replaced my sc-lx502 with a Marantz SR7012 and the outlaw 5000. Plan is to do a full 7.1.4 setup Infinity Primus P362 fronts, Primus CS350 center channel, Infinity Beta es250 bipole rears setup as two separate speakers to make rear and side surrounds, JBL Studio2 6ic ceiling speakers (4) and a custom sealed Image Dynamics IDQv4 10" dual 2ohm sub (wired in series) with a Parts Express BASH 500w Class D amp.

@@diemtran3799 I have the Outlaw 5000 and 7000x models both on my SR7012. Only real notacable difference between the outlaw models is that I have more electrical hum coming from my 7000x I am currently using RCA connectors (waiting on a HDMI 2.1 replacement to the AV7705 before I go XLR balanced). Its interesting that basically this humming is becing caused by the transformer in my APC SMT2200 ups in my server rack in my basement. Hum goes away when i unplug the UPS from the wall. When hum free I dont notice much of a difference. I would say if you intend on choosing between the 7000 and the 5000 buy the 5000. You can do a full 7.1 on a single amp without paying Monolith 11x prices. Either one though is a solid upgrade. Definately noticable with tower speaker or large bookshelves (I have the Infinity Primus P363 towers). Much more depth and midbass. The 7000x supports XLR balanced inputs and that is worth the $350 price increase. I also like the fact that I can turn on Eco mode on the Marantz now. These Denon and Marantz receivers get hot as hell without Eco mode. Unfortunately you cant turn off the internal amplifier on this particular Marantz receiver to save energy and heat. The outlaw amps run much cooler than the Marantz receiver does.

Hello, I have a 5.1 setup using the Outlaw 500O powering my Front L/R/C with a Denon AVRX3600H powering the rear L/R. I've noticed a low volume hiss from the Outlaw powered front speakers and the Denon powered rear speakers are dead silent. You mentioned a star washer was added to the Outlaw, do you think grounding it to the Denon would cure the issue?

Hi I was interested in this amp. I'm not an expert in audio...I've Def Tech 8040 series matching speakers 7.2.2, Marantz 7010 receiver & Dual Svs PB1000. The Marantz is 140wpc and since the Outlaw is 120wpc does it means it is lower power than the Marantz? Would it be huge difference if I add the outlaw to my setup? I mean would it be too loud? I'm mostly in movies. My room size is 16x14. I have never purchased an amp so I don't know if I would notice any difference in the sound if using with outlaw 5000 amp and without outlaw 5000 amp. TIA

Hey guys I just got model 5000 as you know 5000 now comes with XLRs. What a difference in sound. I had my Marantz SR6011 running all my paradigm monitor. Thinking of swapping Paradigms later. What speakers would you recommend?

OSD amps are made by the same supplier of Outlaw as revealed in a lawsuit. Outlaw sued OSD for using the same product manual! Outlaw won the suit. But OSD markets as class H and Outlaw is class A/B. Maybe that was the difference necessary to differentiate enough and avoid copyrights and lawsuits.

Anthony morel XPA-3 is a more powerful amp. If you're planning on just using 2-3 channels then go with the XPA-3. If you need a 5CH amp than the Model 5000 is a great budget amp choice.

Some people discriminate products made in China, yet they often praise the quality of Apple products, which have been made in China for many years! Stop being so ignorant and go visit China! There are lots of different cultures, languages, and physical appearances, it's like numerous countries packed into one. Regardless of which country a product was made in, the quality all depends on its design and the quality control of its factory!

At the time I got my two 5000 they didn't offer the freaking 7 channel one. I should call them and see if they would trade up like SVS and other companies do.

The high capacitance is more for dynamics/transients, so Outlaw doesn't get a pass (IMO) for just meeting the ripple current requirement. At this price point I suppose most manufacturers need to play the same game (con game) the first dishonest company started, because it is so cutthroat at this level. The consumers need to demand accurate specs, because not many know what an actual watt of real power is anymore. The only real spec (probably due to law) on mass market gear is the total max power output (in watts or VA). How many 7+ channel receivers are 150-170 watts/ch, yet the VA or total watts on the back is only 500- 750. Do the math people and it has to add up to at least 200-300 watts more than all channels, because the pre amp/processing takes at least 30 watts and there are always losses because no amp is 100% efficient.

What is with that white furry creature on top of the amp? As a matter of fact, if you're showcasing an item, shouldn't that be the only item being displayed? I'm not sure what to look at. I think this video could have been done a lot better.

Yep I think I'm done with receivers they have gotten to be such crap. Power ratings are a joke on them these days. Look at this spec from Onkyo, 160 Watts/Ch (6ohms 1kHz, 2 Channels Driven. Now rating things in 6 ohm loads to inflate their numbers. Or they'll have a 130 watts 2 channel driven(Half Power) listed. Wtf does that even mean. Any way to fudge the numbers to inflate. Not to mention ONkyo's famous hdmi decade long failure issues.

Given a choice between something made in an established Chinese factory to acceptable QC standards vs something made in southeast Asia, I'll take the Chinese gear every time. I lived in Thailand for 18 months - locally made electronics are cheaper than the imported gear from China and elsewhere (Japanese gear rocks even if you pay accordingly), but in general the standard in Thailand is lower IME. Dont even get me started on Bangladesh or any of the African countries that the corporations are increasingly drawn to for cheap labor.

Guys, I know everyone's a critic on YT but do they teach *geography* at any stage of the education system in the US ? You have a President who is absolutely obsessed with China (admittedly based on what he sees on Fox) and you don't know what 'PRC' stands for ?? Kinda leaves the door wide open for a slew of goodies from the DPRK if Trump and Little Rocket Man learn to get along ..... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Korea A good rule of thumb is that anytime they have to preface the name of a country with 'People's' of 'Democratic', you know its a one-party state ruled with an iron fist. Might be time to take a glance at an atlas once in a while - just sayin.
