I have a Parasound 5 channel amp with my Denon X3400H and I love having the headroom and extra dynamics an external amp gives you. Its just something I really, really like.

By the end of 2019 I was researching to add external amplification. Something I wanted for a long time. This review was really helpful to convince me adding the amp and to look into Outlaw as well, besides Emotiva, Monoprice and others. I ordered the 7000X with 130W at 8 ohms all channels driven. The build quality, heft and weight of Outlaw is superb, also liked the less distracting single button light. After connecting to my Denon the sound coming out of my B&W speakers was absolutely incredible, it really brought extra life and breath out of them. The sound simply crisp and clean with no hum even without grounding. Today almost 2 years later, I bumped into this review, being thankful for your great reviews.

Channa, Great review, as always. I picked one up as "B Stock" for $549 shipped. Currently running big Definitive Technology towers (BP30s) and matching center (BP2000) off it, using my Yamaha RX-A860 as the pre/pro and the rest of the outputs to power the rest of my current 5.1.2 setup. The amount of low end these can now deliver with ease is very impressive and a substantial upgrade over AVR power, especially when listening at or near reference levels. This amp is a bargain, albeit a very heavy bargain.

I just added a second 10" paradigm sub to my system and wow does it ever smooth out the bass and make it much less directional. It now smooths out the bass across the entire room.

I really like my Outlaw 5000. I bought it for use with a used Arcam preprocessor but the hum in the Arcam was unrepairable so I found a used Marantz SR7005 receiver. This unit was no slouch in its day but when I use the Outlaw amp instead of the Marantz internal amps the sound is so much better! The Outlaw was so inexpensive and it kills the Marantz for control of my Sonus Faber 3.0 towers.

Quick question, is the power rating accurate? As in do you actually get 120 watts RMS per channel? I'm running a 3 channel setup and was hoping for at least 120 watts per channel.

At 4:55 of this video by Techno dad he goes over the factory specs for 4ohm speakers. Not sure why he doesn’t mention the more common 8 ohm ratings. Check AudioScienceReview for actual measurements by the reviewer, it appears to exceed the ratings. audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/outlaw-model-5000-multichannel-amplifier-review.10585/

Hello, your spot on with your review. Recently upgraded my system to an 11.2 with Marantz 7012 and B&W speakers. Without an external amp, the system just did not have the punch expected. I should note that I am running full tower front speakers. I added an Outlaw 750 amp (bought used) and the difference was huge. The punch and over all transition of loud to normal volume levels was amazing. I am now a huge fan of external amps. The Outlaw 750 is a 5 channel amp that I am using to power my front 2: towers, center, and 2 front height channels. Great job, keep the info flowing.
@TechnoDad

Thanks David!! Yes it does make quite a difference. I also sit about 14ft away from the front stage so having that extra power to get Reference level where we sit is not doable with AVR power alone. Thanks for watching!!

Great alternative for a receiver then add a Pre-Pro. Outlaw has occasional sales. I have the Outlaw 975 Pre-Pro and am using an old 2004 Denon receiver for an amp so this could be a great amp for me. Next would be a Monoprice 5 Channel Monolith 200x5 amp (made by ATI), but at $1299, it's double the price. Many Outlaw amps are made by ATI as well, but this one's probably made in China. Most receivers have very poor amps. Just not room and thermal limitations. Thanks, Shanna D for the long awaited review. I'll be buying this amp next month.
@TechnoDad
@TechnoDad 5 лет назад
Hi Stanny! Thanks so much for watching. The A/V Receiver has so many things going on that it is in deed "crowded" on the inside. That's not to say they aren't great at what they do, but having headroom for big dynamic shifts is something that a power amp is much better suited toward. Thanks for watching!
@amazoidal
@amazoidal 5 лет назад
I had a Yamaha R-100 receiver that cost $1000 and the amp chips fried and were not available. So I'm not a big fan of receivers. Poor thermal management. I still have my Marantz 19 from 1974 and you could run that all day at max because it has heat sinks that extend to the depth of the cabinet on both sides. Maybe the switch to Class D will solve the heat problem. I don't think a Pre-Pro would have a heat problem and a separate amp would have much larger heat sinks. Today's receivers are not made to fix but amps are a lot easier to repair.

Thanks for the review! For my first AV Receiver ever I purchased last years Marantz SR5012 on sale for $575. It does have preamp outputs. Perhaps I'll look into this outlaw amp as I'll be powering some SVS bookshelf speakers. The Marantz might be ok temporarily but more power is probably better. Movies will be my primary purpose but will likely rock some music on occasion.

Hey Techno Dad, I currently have a Denon 6400 powering 2 RP-280FAs, RP-450C and 2 RP-250S with plans on adding additional surround backs and rear atmos speakers. I know the Denon says that it outputs 140-Watts per channel at 8 ohms, 2 channels driven. My question is, do you know if I would notice the dynamic difference in adding this amplifier at 120 watts per channel, all channels driven? Thanks!

Thank you for a great review. I have a Denon 4500H, Klipsch Floorstanding (Reference Premium). Now the Klipsch RP floorstanding specifies 150/600 as its power rating. Will this Outlaw 5000 Power amp work if I wire it with these Klipsch floorstanding one ( I am planning front stage amplification through this Outlaw 5000). I have been reading that my power amp should drive double the amount of power per channel versus the speaker rating. So in this case, do I need 300W continuous power per channel from a power amp?

Hey, so I’m new to home theater audio. I just picked up a used set of klipsch r28f and a r25c center. I’m looking to get the r51m bookshelf speakers. Now with the amp, is it bad to get one that’s rated higher than the lowest rms of my set up. So the r28f are rated at 150rms, the r25c is rated at 100rms, and the r51m are rated at 85rms. Will an amp that does 125rms for all 5 channels damage or blow my bookshelf speakers? I was looking at the Emotiva a500 or the a5175. So I didn’t want to get the 5175 if it would not work with my speakers. Thanks for your advice, and I truly enjoy your videos. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

Hi! I just contacted them asking for them to send me the XPA-9 as I only have a 5.1.4 setup. I will make a video of that for sure. Honestly, I think only a 7 channel amp is needed. The Denon can handle the height channels. Let all the ear level speakers have more power and headroom because you'll hear more out of those than the height channels. But there's no harm in getting an 11 channel amp. You'll always have it and it may come in handy if you decide to go with a pre/pro down the line.

I'd really like a 5 channel to power the front 3 speakers (center, bi-amp L+R), then later on I'll get an amp for surrounds/Atmos. This is all just dream shopping, who knows when I'll have the cash to pony up for a better life, but I like to be prepared.

@@FastCarCentral I did eventually, but it was a cheap amp I picked up used (60 watts per channel), so the sound already wasn't any better. It wasn't a very accurate test. I'm still waiting for the stars to align so I can pick up a nice 5 channel amp for my front speakers.

Hi! Depends. Those are pretty different price wise. If you’re running 11 channels, I would get the Model 5000 and power either just the front three channels with that and have the AVR power everything else. Or have the the Outlaw 5000 power five channels and the AVR power the rest. I would recommend the Monolith 9X if you were running 9 channels. They have an 11 channel, but I would t recommend that one.

Hi! I would try powering your front stage (Left, Center, Right) with the external amp. Did you run Audyssey after you setup the amp? If you did run calibration again, I would go into crossovers and change your crossovers to 50 Hz on your front stage. Let the Denon power the surrounds and heights.

I think what most average audio enthusiast don't know about are they differences between the wpc an amp delivers (hopefully) vs the current it produces. High current amps is where it's at ! I'd rather go with 80 wpc high current amp over a 150 wpc "regular" amp any day. Maybe you can break it down in a video 🤔

I have a Marantz 7012 for a 5.1.4 configuration. Would this be ether for the mains than my Marantz?
@TechnoDad
@TechnoDad 5 лет назад
So that Marantz says 125 wpc with two channels driven. The Outlaw 5000 running just two channels will output 170 wpc. Not sure that 50 watts would be a noticeable difference. To go up 3db we need to double the power output. So you might go up about 20 - 30% but I can't be sure.

@ml6008 5 лет назад
Techno Dad thanks so much for the reply. I’ll probably not worry about it too much until I feel the need to expand to 7.1.4. (Marantz 7012 requires an external amp to power a full 11 channels).
