*UPDATE 30/04/2022* - This machine has now vanished completely from this arcade! :( It wasn't in all that playable condition in 2021. I was expecting a new racing game to replace it, but no! Six more ticket redemption carnival games now sit in its place. In fact, despite this arcade being so big, it has no racing games at all now! :/ Very sad times!!!
such a shame to hear :( i have more fond memories of playing the setup at mirage in mablethorpe, which to the best of my knowledge is still there, but i did get to play this one once. not many of these left now sadly. to be fair i don't think there are really any new racers out on the market right now, certainly not of the same scale and quality of outrun 2 SP SDX - and i'm not sure there ever will be again. dire period for the arcade industry here.
@@ted90909 I asked a vendor who apparently knows something about this. Supposedly this very machine actually went to The Mirage in Mablethorpe so they can use it for parts? I'm not too sure how true this is, but I do have a bit of a theory. And that is I don't think so much it was dying, but more so they were breaking parts from it whilst it was still in use?! :/ The blue one has always had very good wheels and pedals, with yellow and grey having those half decent, and red always being terrible even with a broken shifter (this is all stayed the same since I tried all 8 of them out in January 2017). For all I can remember of 2021, I have never seen the blue one working once, then later on in the year, yellow was out of order too. This stayed the same until the machine went away recently. I could never understand why those two, given those were the best? At first I assumed it was to do with the 2 meter safe distancing rules because of the pandemic (because those two are in the middle), but then drawn the conclusion that it couldn't be that because those restrictions were dropped before the yellow one was decommissioned. The DLP screens replaced with LED TVs, also the leaderboard and camera screen covered up by a Ferrari billboard. It makes me wonder if those parts were taken earlier on? Such a shame! No arcade game will ever be as good or as much of a classic as this was. If it had to go, fair enough, because surely six Daytona USA 3, Dead Heat, or similar cabs could of fit on that same raised platform this machine was on? It still wouldn't of been great, but at least it would of been something? But nope, more ticket redemption games! If you look up my review on Google for The Forum I posted very recently, you should see a picture attached to it of what it looks like now. It's depressing! :(
@@ted90909 I got a reply from the owner! They said unfortunately the upkeep and getting parts for it were impossible to get hold of... it was past it's time. In it's last days, only the grey 512BB car worked and honestly was in a very bad state at that! If it's true spares for this game can no longer be had, these things will soon be extinct! :(
@@BedfordMarcus the mirage got their 4-car setup much later than the forum did, and also have spares from a 2-car version which they had prior to a space expansion in the mid 2010s - so hopefully theirs will be around for a while yet
@@ted90909 Heck, even the DLP rear projection screens and face cam screen is still going strong on Mirage's! :O I only played one wheel on it though recently (blue car, right side) and all of the controls were 100% perfect, so I trust the others can't be too bad! :) I can also report on the Skegness ones too: - Planet Fun's 4-car: Controls are mediocre, but oh boy this literally has the worst LCD conversions ever! (wrong aspect ratio with screen information cut off top and bottom) - Lucky Strike's (what was 2-car): Still worse than ever! They have done away with the yellow car, so it's only red now. Controls totally butchered and the Plasma or OLED conversion has scoreboards burned in pretty bad. - Empire's 2-car: Works totally fine, still has an LCD conversion but it's definitely better than all the others I have seen. - Golden Palm Resort's (Chapel St. Leonard) OG OutRun 2 Twin: Was fine, but now gone.
It's so nice to see this still operating in 2021! :) But unfortunately, this machine is not holding up too well. The F50 (Red) has non-working manual transmission, the Dino 246 GTS (Yellow) has problematic audio, the 360 Spider (Blue) wasn't working that day and the 512 BB (Grey) has bad steering calibration and sticking brake pedal issues. Also these new LCD conversions don't look too great (but definitely not the worst either) and the leaderboard/cameras are now gone! :( This machine needs a lot of TLC to be good again.
This game brings back nostalgia. Can you tell me how you drift? Do you drop down a gear and then instantly go back up one then break + gas? I can only do the pedal drift on its own! Thank you nice vid
gear down and quickly up to drift, keep the foot on gas, no need to use breaks for this. Once you get the hang of it, you will use it almost every drift. if you do the shifting really fast you will be able to drift maintaning most of speed at the beginning of it. Hope I could help! found out about this shift strategy on an arcade here in my city back on those days, by a guy that was holding the highest score on the machine at the time. It was mind blowing for me back then that this was even possible xD
