In the 1960's, Garamba National Park was home to over 20,000 elephants. However, by 2017, their population had declined to fewer than 2,000. Local extinction seemed inevitable until Naftali Honig, a park ranger and National Geographic Explorer, discovered a tool that finally Naftali and his colleagues a much-needed advantage over the poachers. Watch this video to discover how smart maps became their secret weapon in the save their elephant population from local extinction.
