For the majority of women, there are no effective methods to screen for ovarian cancer. Memorial Sloan Kettering experts discuss how important it is for women to carefully monitor any changes that occur in their bodies that might be symptoms of ovarian cancer. The four most common symptoms of ovarian cancer are bloating; pelvic or abdominal pain; difficulty eating or feeling full quickly; and urinary symptoms (urgency or frequency).
{partial transcript}
Let’s start off with ovarian cancer. We hear a lot about it being particularly deadly because it tends not to cause specific symptoms. Let’s talk about ovary cancer detection, screening, who is at risk and what should we do with it.
Doctor Hensley, would you like to start off?
Sure, ovary cancer does have a reputation of being difficult to diagnose in early stage. Around three quarters of women diagnosed with ovary cancer are in stage three or stage four at the time of diagnosis.
By that we mean the cancer has left the ovaries and spread into the upper abdomen or invaded into distant organs like the liver of the lung.
Also the chances of being cured for cancer is linked to the stage in ovary cancer. If the cancer is diagnosed in early stage, then the chances of cure is greater.

It’s so interesting that there isn’t a lot of discussion about negative diagnostic tests (MRI, CT scans, transvaginal ultrasound) and the only abnormal finding is an elevated CA 125 and advanced ovarian cancer when the patient goes in for surgery for a simple laparoscopic hysterectomy

They love expensive tests and repeats of the same but rarely will they look at actually finding answers and actually reading the results! It seems like it's just a big money making scam off of people's misery.

Well, this is happening only for women. I am sure that testicle cancer research is funded handsomely. This is the hidden stuff that feminist should be fightng over...equal health care instead of who opens the door to the restaurant! 🙄

I am for almost one year asking for an appointment to check my symptoms. Doctor just ignore our symptoms. 4 months ago I had an ultrasound and my right ovary is bigger than the left, the symptoms are getting worse and I am on opioid pain killer to manage the pain on my ovary. Not an appointment with the gynecologists ... "We are not booking because of pandemic"...Right,if I dont die of COVID-19 I will probably die of ovary cancer. Ridiculous.

Please can I get this test. I’m 62 and had breast cancer 12 years ago. I’ve had all the symptoms for years. 3 transvaginal ultrasounds did not get images of the ovaries. I’m so frustrated and I believe I probably have ovarian cancer.
