I'm working on lots of new theories of course so see you on the 20th or maybe just fractionally before ;) Hope you are all enjoying the game like I am!
so Toby I got to ask what Pokemon did you use on your team for Pokemon legends Arceus I used Samurott Wyrdeer Kleavor Tortera Goondra Palkia/Dialga I havent chosen which one yet
I hope you enjoyed the game. Also the sound the flute makes is the same as the game freak sound in the opening of diamond, pearl, and platinum. Fun little detail I realized when I play the game.
I think the most interesting fact of Laventon mentioning that the Pokémon’s “natural” ability to shrink makes me think that Eternatus and Gigantamax energy is some how a reversal of that same natural phenomenon
Except one involves a _blunt_ object smacking pokemon the backs, backs of their _heads_ or _hindquarters_ while the other involves a metaphorical _knife_ to the back of the _torso_ specifically. That metaphor simply doesn't work.
It was also foreshadowing on how I'd become the danger You start off as this nice eager trainer. And then you kill countless Bidoof, Shinx, Wurmple and Drifloon for the dex And before you realize it, you've turned into the biggest monster out there
i also just realized, All the ridable lords from the Diamond clan are able to utilize the dash button but the ones from the Pearl clan do not. because they value their time so much!
A lot of Pokémon have very unique behaviours in this game, as an example blissey will normally attack or run however if your injured they're completely passive and actually follow you.
Not really an Easter egg because it's stated outright, but the ending confirms that the Arceus we catch and carry around is not actually Arceus's true self but a proxy/ avatar of Arceus that allows the player to use a portion of its power. This settles the whole "10 year old catches God in a ball" controversy.
@@IOwnKazakhstan in gnostic mysticism, a weird branch of Medieval Christianity, God is the collective memory of all mankind; so God is “captured” by all humans capable of conscious thought. In that belief our existence is a mimicry of the essence of God. Not only do we control God, but we are becoming it.
Apparently in Japanese, Kamado's accent that breaks through at the end is Kansai dialect, which could suggest that he's actually from Johto, which is the pokemon world equivalent of the Kansai region. I've seen some people say specifically that he could be from Mahogany town, since Mahogany is called a ninja retreat, which would explain Beni, and it's near the Lake of Rage, which could have been where the pokemon that destroyed his home came from.
It would honestly also make sense in his clothing. If he were from Galar he would probably wear clothes more akin to Laventon and not something that is clearly more traditional. Maybe he travelled to Galar before and acquired the Armor that way. Maybe it was a gift to him being a foreign diplomat.
@@AzureKite In the picture we see from him and his wife both are wearing a more western (galarian) style of clothing. With his suit and her dress. What if his wife had been from Galar and the armor was a sort of gift or something he bought when visiting?
@@lurkingone7079 But he also mentions the Darkest Day from Sword and Shield. Maybe his ancestry is from Johto and the family moved to Galar afterwards. His ties to Galar ars stronger to me though: besides he stating about the armor, there's also the Galarian Weezing in the Galaxy Team building (which the constructio were probably overseen by Kamado).
I gotta say, the Beni and Koga thing is just a coincidence. There's always been ninjas in pokemon, not just Koga and Janine. Also, Palina's goggles are for diving for pearls, as she's based off of japanese women who would do pearl diving.
@@alfredorivapalacioirigoyen8068 I had a feeling from the start that he was the Striaton triplets' ancestor, due to him cooking and having the green hair and 3 spiked beard, plus his ninja outfit also having blue straps and a red vest underneath, but I feel like that's mostly coincidence since he's supposed to be an inverted ninja. Plus, Unova isn't known for its "better weather". Hoenn and Alola are though, and most ancestors don't do anything their descendants do. Candice isn't a thief, Karen isn't security, Rowan isn't a commander or leader, etc
The Manaphy event isn't postgame, you can actually do it as soon as you reach the Coastlands area for the first time. Although given their levels, you might want to wait to do it.
I ended up waiting to do it just because I couldn't figure out how I was suppose to do it. I had taken a major break from Brilliant Diamond, and hadn't gotten to the library yet, so I didn't know a new book on Manaphy had been added, and ended up looking up what I was suppose to do to complete the request.
one of my favorite easter eggs is in the Coronet Highlands; at the base of one of the waterfalls, there are Magikarp, and at the top, only Gyarados, which is a reference to an old myth of how fish who could climb up waterfalls would turn into dragons
I like to think that, rather than becoming your own ancestor, that Akari is Lucas’ ancestor and Rei for Dawn. That way you’re meeting your own ancestor when you go back in time.
@@Tharja-iBW but they are genetically similar enough for their mother to potentially look the exact same. In fact, Dawn and Lucas in the Sinnoh games might be related because of this fact, which makes it possible for your character in Legends to actually be meeting their ancestor.
@@Buphido By this logic 90% of the male and female protagonists are related by blood. If similarities is all it takes then May and Brendan's relationship in ORAS is pretty sus considering it's teased as romantic. The fact is that if you choose male then you meet Dawn's ancestor, if you choose female you meet Lucas' ancestor. They wouldn't make something as convoluted as make Lucas and Dawn related if it wasn't already something that was theorised and supported.
And then you get that Back To The Future Awkward Moment where you instead actually bang your own Ancestor because Akari wants to obviously jump your bones lol.
There's also a side quest that has you investigating a drifloon playing with children and when you come upon them the kid screams for help because the drifloon won't let go. In modern pokedex entries it's stated they would carry children off. You literally catch one in the act and save the kid.
The fact the kid states he and the other children are friends with the drifloom and have been playing with them for many moons makes the implications so much more disturbing
Its also the same thing with froslass as you find out about it leading people to their doom though sidequests refferencing its pokedex entries in later dexs
@@Deepseashark Well froslass is based on the yuki oona(snow woman) myths and drifloon is obviously based on the same yokai that the soul piper in inuyasha was
The drifloon are never strong enough to carry anyone away. I forget which dex entry said so but i remember one mentioning that. It could never really lift any children. It is just a balloon and string
My favorite easter egg is the names of the three NPCs that give you the Burmy quest. Their names each represent the cloaks of the Burmy they want to see respectively ☺️
69. Snow goggles aren't to keep snow out of your eyes, though they can help with that too. The narrow slits prevent snow blindness, where sunlight reflecting off snow makes it hard to see. If you pay attention to what the NPC is saying, you can clearly tell that the DIVING goggles of Palina wouldn't do anything to prevent this. Also, Palina's goggles are to help her swim from island to island because she's ostensibly not allowed to use Basculegion.
After you beat the game, talk to Sanqua and she’ll ask what your interpretation of the time space rift before you closed it. Whatever you pick Sanqua decides to make a painting of it. You never see the results but she describes what happened when Spear Pillar blew up. That painting she makes I’m pretty sure is the same one you see in the church in Hearthhome City.
Given that Sinoh's real life counterpart is Hokkaido, and Hokkaido was not incorporated to Japan until the Meiji restauration sent settlers to it along with foreigners (led by an American actually) in the Hokkaido Development Commission (real life equivalent of the Galactic Expedition), it would make sense that the game is taking place around 156 years or so before the present.
1000% it’s definitely 19th century, the game states it’s been 2 years since the village was founded so we are partly into the restoration but before it was named Hokkaido
The narration for the reveal trailer says that this game's story is a tale from a long, long time ago. While definitely based on that time period, I don't think 156 years is nearly enough time for the people of modern Sinnoh to not know their region was once called Hisui or to not have knowledge about the events that took place during this game. It would be one thing if this game had an event towards the end that gives a reason for such a thing, but that isn't the case. Rowan is 60 years old. He likely would have heard stories about the things that happened in this game by his grandfather or great-grandfather.
@@777Roxen how do you know that the people really have forgotten these things and not that it is just never brought up? Do people always talk about the things their grand-grandparents did or something?
I'm nearly certain that Kamado's story with his wife is he lost her in the fire of his old town. He decided to leave that all behind by going to a new land, which the Diamond and Pearl clans called Hisui. There he wanted to keep everyone safe from the dangers of wild pokemon and therefor he was blinded by that and tried taking matters into his own hands.
They talk about kanto and there was an important fire involving the legendary dogs. I believe his family may have lived or been at the temple and lost them in the ho-oh fire
Based on Cameras existing and the whole "Expedition to Hokkaido/Hisui" thing, Legends Arceus took place around the time that Brass Tower burned. So, add that to the pile. His 'accent' seems more Kansai(The region Johto is based on) than Galarian as well.
Dude I get this now the fire of the tower were the Pokémon perished maybe it is connected to Kamado’s story that explaines a lot. I also think we are the old hero mainly cause you see all them statues and brake which would explain them being ruins in bdsp I mean sometimes in time travel movies and shows/games the person that travels back in time i mean we went far back into the past so maybe we are the hero just starting out
I like to see people ignoring the normal ass NPC in town that says that dispite Kamado being the Team Galaxy leader he has a wife and kid waiting for him to come home, implying that she and the kid beside her are those people in favor of making a big scene about a normal family photo in his desk...
11:04 I can 1-up the detail on Vessa: when she's giving you the quest, she says there's 107 spirits to find, while in every other title so far, the Pokedex always mentioned it's 108 spirits.
She’s actually not possessed by Spirit Tomb; she is actually one of the spirits that should be locked inside the odd keystone. Thus making her the 108’th spirit
also on the wiki hisuian typloshion (i dont know how to spell it) attacks with 108 spirits i think its the wiki idk i know its some official pokemon website
I think the snow goggles mentioned by the Pearl clan member are like the ones you can buy at the clothier, which are in turn based on traditional snow goggles that were/are made by Inuit populations!
The Galarian Weezing actually makes a lot of sense if you consider when the game takes place! The Industrial Revolution occurred in the early 1800s, and if this one is based off of Japan's takeover of the Hokkaido region, that occurred in 1869. So Galarian Weezing would have shown up only a few decades before this venture
I would believe after the two clans reconcile with each other, both of them built Eterna City next to the Summit Camp (which is where those broken statues are). This will make the fused statue a lot more sense because they wanted to make a statue that both clans can worship at the same time. Funny enough although Eturna City got the name from its long history, this means the history of Eterna City isn't actually that long. Possibly they gave this name for hoping this city with the statue could live a long history in the future.
This comment needs more attention. I want to note that is this is true, the two clans are meeting in the area between their two settlements. They are literally meeting in the middle.
@@mmyr8ado.360 Obviously they got married, it's just not obvious enough who is their descendant. They could literally split Cynthia into a male and a female character presenting different halves of her, but couldn't do this with Iscan and Paulina. Very weird.
@@hhjan594 Jokes aside, what I mean is if there's going to be a unification of the clans, marriage between the most prominent members of each clan would have to happen. Speaking of Volo, if there's going to be DLC with him in it, I'd like to think the Lake trio would intervene this time.
Since Palina & Iscan are a couple I assumed they are both ancestors to Nessa. Also both of the Pokémon they are the guardians of share a type with Nessa's Drednaw, water & rock.
I think you missed Beni explaining Kamado and his backstory. Beni mentioned after you beat him that he and Kamado came from the same village, which was burned to the ground, leading Kamado to create an expidition team to settle somewhere people could live in safety.
@@KN81257 Neither are from Galar. Kamado's accent is likely a reference to a Kansai accent. Johto being the Pokemon world equivalent of Kansai. He is friends with folk from Galar, making it entirely possible he had the armor specifically made for him, since Japanese armor of the time was notably weaker.
@@shipool definitely this. All other translations of Kansai accents irl do the same thing too, the kinda brooklyn/southern thing of "droppin' g from the end o' words an bein' informal n whatnot"
@@shipool Speaking of Johto, remember that one time a belltower was said to have caught on fire, the same event that led Ho-oh to create the three legendary dogs? Surely this same fire has no implications on the connections to Kamado's roots and a tragedy of his lost wife.
1:41 This is porbably also mentioned later in this video but if not, after the sidequest where you catch a Crogunk so it's poison can be used for medicial purposes you can find the person you helped around the village (I specifically saw them behind the training ground building) where they then talk about making a wooden statue of Crogunk as thanks.
When you were mentioning how Jubilife is Canalave and the modern Jubilife is a relocation I remembered an NPC in Jubilife saying some of the corps had gone to establish another village in the Obsidian Fieldlands area which would be closer to Jubilifes actual spot in modern daya possibly meaning the NPC is actually officially hinting that as ypu said, the new established area is where Jubilife city in modern day ends up being??
One point that wasn't elaborated on further was the names of both Volo and Cogita. Cogita is a play on the phrase "Cogito ergo sum" ("I think, therefore I am"), which is befitting for someone who is the keeper of knowledge. Volo's name means desire in latin, which also reflects his role in the story. Cogita is most obviously the direct ancestor to Cynthia.
@@twilitlloyd7167 Volo says he is directly descended from the ancient hisuian people like Cogita. So they share a common ancestory but are possibly not closely related. I think they are saying that it’s more obvious that Cynthia is directly descended from Cogita given her position and knowledge.
I feel like Cogita, as the keeper of "knowledge", while Volo is the "desire", there is a vacant of "feelings" as if these three represents the three lake guardians.
Cogita is more likely to be directly related with Cynthia is because she is the Celestica people living in the Ancient Retreats (which becomes Celestic Town in the modern days). From the Sinnoh games, we know Cynthia's family lived in this very town for ages and they were passing down the Sinnoh myths, and we even meet Cynthia's Grandmother in the game for this. All of this totally matches up with how and what Cogita is in this game. Volo on the other hand does not seem to be in a relationship with Cogita, it looks like Cogita is one of Volo's elder relatives that happens to take the duty of passing down the Sinnoh myths.
I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the characters in Legends could be ancestors to characters we haven’t seen yet. Adaman gives me heavy Champion vibes in his design and demeanour, while Irina reminds me of a protagonist in her design
Interestingly, game states Adaman and Irina are related to the founders of each tribe. We see photos of men we can assume are the founders, and both men are 100% Archie and Maxie ancestors. So they are actually Archie and Maxie stand ins.
Also upon getting the shiny charm there is a cutscene that plays out where Kamado says he will study under the professor to learn more about Pokemon and will let Cylene take charge
And before that, there's another scene with Kamado and Cyllene again where they discuss the origin of the name of the Galaxy Expidition Team, and how Cyllene will keep the name and history of the team alive through her descendants.
Finding Tao Hua's decendant is actually really simple. His granddaughter married Choy. Therefore, if Choy is Charon's ancestor, Tao Hua probably is as well.
I like the idea of reincarnation, especially given Volo's parting words. I won't spoil anything, but the idea that spiritual connections span lifetimes and even possible alternate realities and the idea that some events are just meant to happen across time and space seems very interesting to think about.
One big hint to the timeline of when Arceus takes place is that Laventon owns a camera, the first cameras were created in the 1700s ie. 300 years ago by our standards. While we know that tech in the pokeworld doesnt exactly follow normal conventions it could still be a big hint to place this timeline wise.
With the steam and Victorian-era motifs on the Galarian style buildings (Team Galaxy building, Galarian Weezing chimney, street lamps) and character designs (Kamado, Cogita), along with the crude steampunk-style technology of the Pokeballs, it's safe to say it's loosely in the late 1800s-early 1900s with fantasy elements thrown in everywhere.
The biggest hint is that its actually based off the Meiji restoration that started in 1870. The time where Hokkaido (where Sinnoh is based off of) was annexed as part of Japan. Before the Meiji restoration, Hokkaido was known as Ezochi, kind of like how Sinnoh was known as Hisui. Its also the time when Japan began to industrialize.
@@cielbie8251 this also explains the galarian wheezing since they only would have started to appear during the industrial revolution so this would be after that.
I feel that, thanks to how similar Dawn/Akari and Lucas/Rei are, it’s more likely that, depending on who you choose, Akari is Lucas’s ancestor and Rei is Dawn’s ancestor.
Regarding the Croagunk statue, the man who was healed by the medicine made from Croagunk Poison, will later on say he will make a wood carving statue of Croagunk, referring to the mysterious wood statues seen in DPP games
I think the Moss Rock and Ice Rock were just included as nods to this being the gen that originated them with the introduction of Glaceon and Leafeon (since you don't NEED them to evolve either of them). They don't need to be the same ones in the same locations, as there was probably more than one of each at some point.
I think Iridia is wearing swimming goggles since she talks about traveling on the ocean. You can find actual snow goggles in the clothing shop later on, and they look like traditional Inuit snow goggles.
It's also very similar in shape and style to what Japanese pearl divers would wear when diving for pearls. They're also a group of all women. So Palina's design is directly inspired by and a reference to Japanese pearl divers. Edit: Palina not Iridia
Kinda late but I believe you mixed up Palina with Iridia. Iridia is the leader of the Pearl clan and Palina is the Lord that watches over Archanine. Now back to the topic at hand, couldn't Palinas goggles be diving goggles instead of snow goggles being that well, she lives by the ocean? Edit: messed up and put Paula instead of Palina
You can get Ryley's hat in the clothing shop. Also, there's a cutscene in where Kamado and Cyllene discuss with you the origin of the Galaxy Expedition Team's name, and how Cyllene will carry on the team's name and legacy through her descendants. Also, with the Daybreak update, we get a quest that hints at the origin of the Pokemon statues we can find in the Grand Underground, which is also a hint at a possible reason for the Massive Mass Outbreaks.
A clever nod in the Cobalt Coastlands that I haven't seen anyone else mention: at Deadwood Haunt there's a few shipwrecked boats, around the same place where the Sunyshore Lighthouse will be.
I'd like to add to this that there is a spot on the shore named Ginkgo Landing nearby. Maybe the merchants of Ginkgo guild (or their earlier generation taken how weathered the ships look) have traveled to Hisui by sea from another region.
There's sketchings on the walls in every Lord/Lady pokemon's arena & while it may not be a code it IS interesting that they depict all sorts of legendary pokemon like the lake spirits & even Arceus itself (and also certain ride pokemom like sneasler), also fun fact that the potato mochi is a Hokkaido specialty & that Hisuian Zoroak COULD be a reference to the wolves that used to be native to Japan until hunter traps wiped them all out
They kind of are! Japan used to have a large population of wolves from Hokkaido down to Iwate, but once expansion started, the wolves were either hunted to extinction, or the ones remaining ran back to Russia through Sakhalin Island. Sakhalin Russians share ancestry with Ainu, Norther Chinese, and Norther Korean indigenous tribes!
The fact that in a certain Sidequest, the Driftlon just does not want the child to leave and the fear people have of Pokemon might be the origin of the "Driftlon abducts children" myth.
It would have been neat if zoroark was used to reference that but since it's referenced in game as the baneful Fox multiple times I don't think that's the case
@@evelinepotter4551 I highly doubt it, there probably be is more evidence that came after this game, because we would then need to find a reason for why the games say it hates fat kids, and the fact Pokédex’s from even other regions say it brings children to the afterlife.
Here's something regarding Commander Kamado's backstory: Talking to npcs around Jubilife before going after him to mount coronet, someone mentions something close to: "powerful pokemon at the space-time rift, could this village be burned to the ground, like it happened to the commander before coming to Hisui?
@MegaLegoLuigiEX certainly possible. I think an NPC in town mentions kamado's village was destroyed in a pokemon attack, and another mentions that the husui region is for people with nowhere else to go
@@megaplays2748 But we don't know that, do we? I mean, we only assume that Legends is just a few hundreds of years before modern day games but it wasn't officially stated, or was it? I truly don't remember. Also, most of this assumptions (at least of what I've seen) is by comparing it with real life Japan. The darkest day was 3000 years ago supposedly, but the images and everything depicts it in a medieval like aesthetic... which wasn't 3000 years ago. My point is that videogame timelines (or fiction in general) are bunkers and at the end they can just do whatever they want with the time lol.
Small thing I found interesting knowing some Chinese, Zisu is actually the Chinese word/phrase for 'technique', making it very easy to remember who the move tutor is. Chinese and Japanese do share certain words and characters so there's that.
something i think that’s really cool is that, during the time when all hell is broken loose and there sky is colored red green and blue, the load up screen for arceus (the menu you first see after booting the game up from the switch’s home menu) has the red green blue sky too. it’s a SUPER cool detail and there’s also no music playing-it’s so ominous and spooky
Tao Hua which I'm pretty sure is pronounced Tah-oh Hwah, is later revealed to have a granddaughter who is married to the shopkeeper Choy he has a grudge with. So Tao Hua's descendant is also Choy's descendant.
Its always nice to see how Pokemon kept its promise being a mysterious world! Remember how in the anime some pokemon are just insanely huge, well that could be Alpha Pokemon. In Alola they call them by a different name.
Honestly I feel it is clearly implied that the commander's partner is dead and got killed by rampaging pokemon in the past. I believe that the commander and his "problemsolver", that was the best plot twist in my opinion, are the last of an ancient tribe that lived in the Hisui-Region even before the ancestors of the two clans arrived. The region was clearly settled long before as the ruins suggest. When you interact with the statues in the highlands there is the question "but who built them?", I believe this also fits the character of the commander and gives a good and compelling motivation for his actions when he clads himself in steel and literaly walks to war to kill whatever pokemon is at the tempel causing the rift. It is clearly stated, that the commander and the mochi maker are the last of there people that got destroyed by pokemon. This is the reason why the commander wants to build a new and save place for the people. Also the place of their origin has the same name as one of the ruins in the highlands map. This would also explain why the armour he wears seams to be a combination of japanese and european design inspiration. Compared to the other leaders of the Expedition he is also the only one with a clear japanese inspired background and name. The professor is strait up a person of galarian (english) background as he is speaking english in the japanese and german game versions. I started today with my japanese playthrough of the game after I finished in german and I have to say some parts in the english translation are very different then the original japanese and also the german translation which I think are interesting. In the original and the german translation the "Nobles" are called Kings and Queens specificly. Now that I have this fancy RU-vid-thingy I leave a sub and maybe I will sometimes offer translations in the comments; at least someplace where my Japanese Studies come in handy
@@Justic_ Western clothing was very popular in the main island of Japan in the era the game likely takes place. That said, he says that he and Beni come from another region. So he's not from Hisui for sure.
Kamado specifically mentions that he is donning traditional galarian armor if you rematch him in the Jubilife dojo, so it is highly likely he is from the Galar region, just like Laventon.
@@Justic_ not really a valid argument as it is stated that kamado travelled to hisui and beni followed alongside him as his righthand man, Beni also stated that both he and kamado came from the same village together This could potentially tie a few things together being that Wikstrom, Kamado, and Beni could possibly be originally from the Galar region and maybe strengthen the idea that it was Galar that Kalos was at war with which would obviously have been inspired by England and France's history.
@@XjerichoX12 It is a valid argument when you consider the accent folks are calling "Galarian" doesn't sound Galarian, and is more akin to a localized Kansai(Region of Japan Johto is bassed on) accent. Only a Japanese player would be able to answer that though. And the armor being imported 100% makes sense, since Japanese armor of the time was nowhere near as strong as European armor, his fears towards pokemon would have spurred him to have a suit custom made, note how he still carries Japanese style crests on the back. The games also take place during a time period where trade with the British was picking up.
tao hua possibly has more than one descendant. after you finish all of choy’s requests it’s revealed that choy is married to tao hua’s granddaughter making both him and choy chiron’s ancestors. however, his design would suggest another possible descendant so maybe somewhere along the way his line split off even further.

Volo is the ancestor of Cynthia AND Lusamine. Sure, you see the necklace and blonde hair, and think of Cynthia because Hisui & Sinnoh. But the big twist, the hair covering one eye, and even his revealed palette are Lusamine. (Lusamine and Cynthia even share similar, if not identical poses.) @@gabriellockwood2780 I am not ignoring the possibility of them being related. In fact I believe that Volo is not only an ancestor to Cynthia, but Lusamine. But the whole "they Summon otherworldly entities" =/= mean they are blood related and is more coincidental and less concrete as once again, this connection has to first assume they are related to say that this is a common point relative to the family when it takes less assumptions to assume that they are 3 different people who are Summoning otherworldly entities. It's by far the weakest connection here as this connection would therefore connect Volo and Cyrus when other than that they have no connection. Fortunately they have somewhat similar elements in design, but once again this is still not the strongest connection compared to the blatant Cynthia ancestry.
I heard a theory Canalave and Jubilife were once one city, the river expanded causing them to become 2. this is interesting because very clearly Snowpoint also seems to have flood, because it had access to the sea which it doesn't in this game. however if the region flooded the waterfalls would no longer be there and instead we would see a river flowing to the river
9:14 Marley, Cheryl, Mira, Buck and Riley form their own exclusive club called the Stat Trainers. They specialize in a single stat rather than a single type, save for Buck who specializes in both Defences. These are trainers whom are allowed in the Battleground club and are treated as being on the level of Gym Leaders. In fact, Riley, even with 5 Pokémon, stands a likely chance at dethroning Cynthia; a better chance than any other Sinnohnian trainer, at least.
I always thought Irida was May's ancestor due to the very similar claw hair style, bangs, same eye color, and red and black being a part of their main outfit colors. Even their face looks similar.
I have one, if you look at origin form dialga and palkia, the things on their waists can be combined to make Aceus' ring, showing how they are both a part of him
biggest easter egg you missed is from one of the Old Verses! so it's a bit of a spoiler if you want to discover them all for yourself, but Old Verse 12 explicitly mentions Sinjoh: "Wintry... Austere... Brimming with strange power... Certainly the land of Hisui bears some resemblance to Sinjoh. Here, where the ancient Sinnoh people were born, I will spend an eternity... until the one with the mission appears." SUPER fascinated by this, and it really makes me wonder who wrote the old verses, since their description says it's all the same author - the ancient hero? is cogita immortal? would love a theory on this! (also, Old Verse 5 talks about the ancient Celestica people and their disappearance, which is fascinating, and... really makes me even more curious about Cogita). Anyway, sorry for the super long comment, I've just been so excited to hear your theories and thoughts about the game!
Legends kyurem would make so much sense all the gen 5 references plus the fact that we the kyurem we know is just a “husk” of the old ancient dragon so having a story before he was split would be incredible to see
If anything, this makes me wish we'd get some developer diary on this game. Like, the process that went into creating these very specific moments. This game is just stuffed to the brim with references and content, I'd love to hear from some people who worked on the development of this game of what the team was like and how it was to work on everything this game has to offer. I would LOVE to see more games in this style. Maybe not so much the past, but could you imagine Unova or Kalos in this style?
I'm just imagining, they either did days of full playthroughs of old games to get references, or got people who were really really passionate about past games as developers... and likely had an insanely long planning time brainstorming all possible ideas and ancestry and map locations and game mechanics etc to tie together neatly with a storyline of "person wants to rebuild world, player sent to stop".
I'm excited for future legends games. I love and still enjoying PLA even though I've beaten the main story. There's lots of things they can improve on, PLA is somewhat considered a "baby" or trial game before the next one comes along in the future
Yeah plus it can also retcon and explain a lot more lore in different regions. Imagine being able to witness Johto's 3 great beasts arise from the ashes of the tower, or explanations to regileli and regidrago in a knights of the round table style galar during an age of kings and clans
I want a Legends Unova game based on the American Civil War--it'd be perfect. Not only because of the whole dichotomy with truth and ideals and the legendaries and stuff, but also if they continue to take historical inspiration with these games this would be smackdab in the middle of the colonization of western America. Imagine Red Dead Redemption but Pokémon. That'd be sick. Although considering how this game turned out...I'd rather wait till GameFreak sharpens their skills before Legends Unova. Well, assuming they sharpen them at all--seems the devs are still as bad at optimization as they were in the development of gen 2! 😅
I also really appreciate the nods and references to the first Mystery Dungeon game. The hero that falls into a new world with (maybe) memory loss, the way the story is structured, the familiar plot elements that gave me MAJOR deja-vu feelings especially towards the end of the game. And also concerning Gardevoir, who has a big role in the first MD game, whereit literally sacrificed itself to protect its trainer from Ninetale's curse. That was a fascinating story in itself.
Sword and Shield's entrees actually mention Copperajah came from a far off region to Galar a long time ago, so that could mean Laventon is actually from Copperajah's home region originally, and just studied in Galar. Possibly references Britain's control over India during the same time period that Legends seems to align with(1800s)
Also, in FR/LG, Raichu's Pokédex entry said that he could KO an Indian elephant, Copperajah isn't from Galar, so Copperajah could be the Indian elephant.
@@regalseagull To the first one no, I'm just a history nerd. And to the second one, that is pretty much already accepted. The thing is that in the point in real world history that inspired legends Arceus, the Meiji Restoration, Great Britain would have already been in India for a long time. In the context of the Pokemon world, it would be enough time for pokemon like copparajah to become part of Galar alongside curry, which did happen in the real world. Meaning, him saying copparajah from my home region doesn't mean he is from the Pokemon version of India. Especially with his very British mannerisms and how he speaks. In all languages he shown speaking English in occasions and in English he says very British sayings. Just because he has dark completion doesn't mean he is not Galarian.
I really hope you talk about the relationship of Cogita and Enamorus. Cogita makes a comment after you capture Enamorus implying that she will outlive the protagonist and how Enamorus will eventually return to her. Idk what she means by this but it feels super interesting to explore
@@miles6492 I don't think so. It could just be his desperation. If he were truly immortal, that would mean he was Cynthia--and considering Cynthia and Volo's different behaviors, I think we can both agree that is not the case.
After watching this, I'd really like to see them do legends of Johto and Kanto This is fascinating (especially since I didn't play Diamond or Pearl) I'll have to change that
I think one thing ossibly discounted in this is characters that are also specifically referrences to characters that only appear in the anime. One that was like a bucket of ice water to the face for me was that Melli is 900% the ancestor of Team Rocket's very own James. Mannerisms and style both match.
oh my god i can't believe i never saw it before. this bugged the hell out of me that i couldn't place him but that fits really very well (to me) now that you say that
8:22 Given that Kamado and Beni came to Hisui to essentially begin a new life after their hometown in another region was ravaged by a Pokémon, and that their goal is to create a place where humans can live free of fear of Pokémon, i think its a safe bet that his wife died in the town that was destroyed.
I feel like Iscan could be an ancestor to Marlon, but that really only comes from the idea of Iscan being the caretaker of Basculegion, and Basculin being a Pokémon common in Unova.
Terminus is another word for the end of a railway or transport route. That would explain why Ingo specifically chooses that word for the end of Wayward Cave
Irida and Adaman’s names are both derived from the Lustrous and Adamant Orb. Adaman is just dropping the “T”, but Irida is a cut down version of the word Iridescent, which is a synonym of Lustrous
I must say, that after playing legends arceus, I'm even more on Lockstin's side about the time frame of the game. The whole architecture and even the clothing resembles, what you can find about Japan around 1850 to 1900. It'd make sense, that there are other Pokédexes as well, ride pokémon are already used in Alola. Spiritombs "hundreds of years" would make sense as well, if its just 150-200 years back from today. The story framework is a colonization effort and learning about "zoology". There are no "farm animal" pokémon around like miltank, tauros or mareep, who should already be domesticated on the main land. Also we get a Petitlil to craft a known remedy for the psyduck. I do not really see a reason to say it is way earlier... We can buy dress suits and "modern" shoes for arceus sake.
Yeah, and the stuff that's modeled on the more Western style looks like it's from the late 19th century. Probably near or during the second Industrial Revolution (even though it obviously hadn't made it to Hisui yet) because the Galarian Weezing on the headquarters is based off the smokestacks from old coal plants.
Finally, someone recognized the floor design seen during the Arceus encounter (#112) at the end of the game as the same one from the Arceus event from HG/SS!
2:12 The most odd part about that to me is thatclearly both Voltorb and Electrode were around many years before that and even the variosu chests and crates within the ruins in various areas contain Pokeballs.
I have a few theories.. 1) I think those creates and chests were dropped by travelers who got attacked by wild Pokémon. 2) It's also possible that mischievous Pokémon may have stolen them and used them as toys. (I had a cat that used to go around the neighborhood stealing stuff like plants, baby toys, shoes and food.)
That was so sweet that you paused to thank those still watching :) I love looking for Easter Eggs too, and I think I’ll keep finding animal comparisons to make as well! I need to check out your tree of life videos!
Iscan and Palina both get together since they usually meet in secret and the two are more than likely Nessa's ancestor. While there is traits very similar to Nessa from Iscan, Palina's genes is probably one of the reasons why Nessa is also a model.
Given the level of technology and the slowly improving relations of the Diamond and Pearl Clans, and the Galaxy Team, I feel confident that the game takes place in the early to mid 1800s. Allow me to explain: Photography as we know it today got its start in 1839, and barring Professor Laventon's steampunk Kodak, the photographic technology lines up well. The Galaxy Team also appears to use electric lighting, albeit an early iteration of it. I also believe that gunpowder had been invented, due to the firework shot that fires out of Pokeballs to signify a Pokemon having been caught. Maybe guns just don't work well on Pokemon. Finally, we have the aftermath of the events of the game. Since the Temple of Sinnoh was destroyed, and we as the player discovered that no entity known as Sinnoh exists (instead being Arceus, then Dialga and Palkia), the Diamond and Pearl Clans, with the Galaxy Team, decided to rename the Hisui Region as the Sinnoh Region, and to rename the ruins of Sinnoh's temple to Spear Pillar after the events of the game. This would reflect Hokkaido's renaming, which happened in 1869.
The forces of nature therian forms are based on the Chinese sacred beasts (4 symbols). The Japanese have different names for them. Tornadus-Suzaku Thunderus-Seiryu Landorus-Byakko Enamorus-Genbu
I'm still on the theory that perhaps Volo finds a daughter of Cogita's and their bloodlines merge there but then diverge again into Cynthia and Lusamine being distant relatives: Cynthia taking more after Cogita and Lusamine taking the ideals of Volo leading to their creation of Type: Null to fulfill that line of Volo's of conquering Arceus. No matter how many centuries it took to took them.
I found a super cool Easter egg in the game just this morning. The movie The Rise of Darkrai has a character named Baron Alberto who has a Lickilicky, and if you challenge the Path of Solitude with Darkrai, the opponent Ingo chooses for you is a Lickilicky. I understood the reference as soon as I saw what Pokémon Ingo chose for me to fight.
I know that it's a callback to Cyrus, but I can't help but feel like Volo's comment "Do you mean to tell me this world doesn't mean to be remade" is meta commentary toward the constant hunger for earlier generations to get remakes. Especially when Legends Arceus seems like it's had so much passion put into it, where BDSP largely felt... unspirited... 👀
I think it just might be both, and that makes it really good and clever writing. In the meta sense, it might also refer to how Legends entirely changed up the gameplay formula, and might very well impact the direction of Pokemon games going forward.
33:00 Copperajah sword Pokédex entry: “They came over from another region long ago and worked together with humans. Their green skin is resistant to water.” That means that the professor isn’t from galar but rather this region we have yet to explore in the games.
@@BirdKeeperToby honestly yeah there is a lot to suggest professor Laventon is from galar. Still he could be from this Copperajah home region and I hope we see it someday!
I saw something interesting while going through the Tidal cave! There's some drawings, which at first appeared like UNKNOWN characters but it turns out to be mini drawings of some other known legends! I just thought it was pretty interesting and wanted to share!
I think Spitiromb request is one of the best. The message is that, inside the Odd Keystone, one of the 108 spirits broke the seal. That one spirit, Vessa, searched for the player to help her collect them all, which could've been done by herself too but she still had that single wish to play with someone before getting sealed again. We can finally get to sorta know a bit one of the 108 spirits thanks to this request, who happens to be just the spirit of a girl. This request also reveals how lonely some of those spirits probably feel inside the Odd Keystone.
I personally think that Volo isn't Cynthia's ancestor I think, that it's Lusamine Both Lusamine and Volo tried summoning creatures from other dimensions!
My theory is that Iscan, Palina, and possibly Calaba will be the ancestors of characters we'll meet in Gen 9. It would explain why their resemblance to existing characters is so fuzzy compared to the other wardens.
@@Ajzan1 No. They're just not. Stop trying to make original characters fit as ancestors, They're very obviously not. All the ancestor characters are made very obvious, usually by having the same hairstyle. Those three do not.
It’s so hard watching the community run around frantically trying to figure out who’s an ancestor of who when I doubt all of them even have ancestors/descendants. People are trying to justify it by “that’s the point of worldbuilding” but it’s very possible some of these characters just died and never got descendants
In jubilife village farm there's a guy named "Leif" he's from the kanto region. He mentioned something about the people over there catches and train pokemons. I think it's a nice nod to the original red and blue versions.
Toby: "Your player character is their own ancestor" Me: "What the Futurama!" I also recently heard a theory that Volo could also be Lusamine's ancestor meaning that Lusamine and Cynthia are related
I like to think that role reverse for Cylene and Cyrus was a nice mirror to what Cyrus could have been if he wasn't brought up they way he was. Its like a what if Cyrus didn't have to repress his emotions
Yeah the whole time travel thing is a dubious theory at most. There's a lot of inconsistencies and paradoxes that conflict with it being connected after the events of Diamond and Pearl. I believe they decided to do this in order to leave it open ended, thus your character could even be from the real world like how they were in the Mystery dungeon games, which would explain a lot, such as the numerous options for your character to state they're unaware of what Pokemon are in addition to Arceus explaining to you what Pokemon are. If they were Lucas/Dawn, these options wouldn't make any sense considering they already completed the Pokedex and know what Pokemon are and it's world just for starters. In addition, your character uses a modern looking phone instead of a rotom phone (for modern series) or a xtransceiver (updated version of a poketech that people used as phones up till gen 5)
I think the theories about being from other regions, albeit modern ones, is more likely, given the T-Shirt they were wearing is one that can be gotten from modern games. (Male character is from X/Y, can't remember what people have said about the female character) Then there's also the discussion with Ingo after the Voltorb battle where the player character agrees with Ingo on what modern life, and living with Pokémon, is like.
I feel like some of the ancestor connectons you mention are real stretches. While there are certainly ones I thought of that you didn't agree with, not every character has to have a connection to a modern day counterpart. It's probably better that way, even. I don't think Mellie, Calaba or Adaman, for example, are really related to anyone we know.
I think that there’s a lot of characters without descendants and that people just took the “oh these people are obviously descended from ___• as a “oh everybody is an ancestor”
32:19 I've been wanting an Africa region for a while. The culture has so many myths and legends that would make such interesting legendaries and the animals there are so varied. Fingers crossed we get that for gen 9
I still think Australia should be the next region. No only do we have some of the most unique animals in the world, like the Lyre bird and the Platypus, but our indigenous culture, the Aborigines, are the oldest, living culture in the world. We have a lot of ancient myths and legends to build around. I may be a. It bias being an Aussie myself though
@@jembozaba4864 as an Australian I would also adore an Aussie region, however I’m scared they’ll do what they did for Unova & have the Natives be White
14:25 I think that Palina and Iscan descendant(s) would be the same person, because... you know, they are a couple. So they are like two birds in one stone
There are quite a few references to the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series in Legends, the Noble boss fight theme has the Fogbound Lake motif, there are drawings in cave walls that look similar to Time Gears, the story itself is super reminiscent of the player character being taken from their world and transformed in PMD, even a little bit of Ingo also being transported back reminds me a LOT about Gengar in PMD Blue Team being a second human to be transformed and put into the world of Pokemon
