It's really hard to overstate SNK's importance in the video game world, especially the arcades. They were RIGHT THERE from the very, very beginning, starting in 1979. The Neo-Geo sort of overshadows a lot of SNK history, but they were there in full force many years before that. Hell, SNK ports and original titles (Crystalis!) were a staple of just about everyone's NES library back in the day. Real shame what became of the company later on.
SNK one of my top 10 favorite gaming companies in the arcades growing up in the 80's & 90's next to some of my other favorite gaming companies like Sega, Capcom, Namco etc..
So many of these I'd never seen before... It's unreal to see where SNK cut their teeth and as an 80's kid, it's always nice to see new stuff. I practically lived in the Arcades growing up, but being from Australia, perhaps many of these games weren't released here? Keep up the great work 🎉
Fantasy is a hidden gem. Not sure how to classify it, but it’s just too goofy and charming not to be fun. POW is one of my favorite fighting beat’em ups, probably owing to the NES version being an outlet for me when I was a kid and my mom was diagnosed with cancer. She’s a survivor so that story has a happy ending, but it was nice to have digital people to beat the snot out of when you’re scared and angry as a child. Beats some other outlets one could take, lol.
I can relate, I was going through some bad family stuff when Streets of Rage 2 came out and used to just put my headphones on and get lost in the action.
Used to play HAL21 all the time when I was younger, every Saturday morning I would go to the arcades in Blackpool and get the high score. Must be rose tinted glasses cos I thought it looked amazing at the time.
Thanks for doing these I do love the variation, very interesting, only thing I'd ask is that when it's all in Japanese you could help us with the title cuz I like to look into some titles. Cheers keep it up !
