Oh yeah, as a kid in the 1960's, I remember the wooden paddle used at school. One particular teacher, Mr. Ball, who was a really nice guy, wouldn't tolerate disrespect or bad behavior. His spankings were remarkably effective at changing ones' attitude. Thanks Elizabeth!
Did Mr Ball ever need to change your disrespectful or behavior attitude with the wood paddle? It was neglecting some assignments in HS that earned my butt my first paddling from a teacher after school. Was quicker than an hour of detention but walked home with a sore paddle spanked rear-end.
There’s also Naval punishment, and the receiving “punishment as a boy” which would result in being bent over a cannon, and a cat o nine tails being used on your exposed bottom. There’s a similar punishment for the non commissioned officers that was similar except a rod of wood was used instead
You know in my country I heard a story as a child. A young man got arrested for bullying and sexually assaulting young girls. 3 months later he went to trial. It was later discovered that it wasn't him. But it was a coordinated pattern between him and his father. Should I let the boy ago and arrested the father. Three months later. In the middle of the trial the father changed his plea from not guilty to no contest. And even recommended the form of punishment. Now this is the form of punishment I've never heard of but I was young so I was learning a lot of things from people and this was told to me by an old lady. He recommended to the judge that he be over the barrel. The judge paused and convened with the attorneys. After debating it for a weekend. The following morning he was sentenced to 6 months over the barrel. Meaning that over the course of 6 months one day out of the week he would receive a flogging over a barrel. And he thought he was hardcore enough to go through that punishment. The country I'm referring to is the Caribbean country. And the prisoner was sent to one of the worst ones back in the day he hadn't understood what he was asking for because he never heard of it before. The only reason why he asked for the sentence because one of the attorneys recommended it to him so that way he wouldn't have to do a long jail term. By the time he ended his sentence no one heard from the man no one seen him. Not even to come outside and eat. Rumor has it that his first beating was the worst. I would describe it on RU-vid but I would just say that he was put over a barreled with his member in the barrel and told he had to fill it up in order to be released back to his cell. The story gave me nightmares how my parents could punish me.
In Scotland we use the phrase as a euphemism as “there’s nothing I could do they had me over a barrel” to indicate you had no other option to get out of the predicament you where in lol.
