The water/fire tender reminded me my old land lord would tell stories of he and the kids in his rail stop town would follow the steam engines in and out of town with wet blankets in the summer to put out the fires that would pop up in the fields. He made it sound like a game. Gate, Washington.

I had a great grandmother in Sidney, Montana who would do that. She eventually lost her sense of smell because of all the smoke. At least that was what I was told.

I assume you are referring to the conversion to oil. Note that both the Carson National Forest & the Rio Grande National Forest are closed on various levels as of Thursday, May 19. I can only speculate but that conversion to oil just may be what keeps the trains running at all this year. We will see on or about June 12.

The sound of the whistles in The Valley is a haunting sound something that American steam locomotives have over any other On Earth the haunting moan of the whistle

Good Footage, but I am doing something impressive with this scenic line, my first Scenic Railroad to be brought into sprite form, all locomotives, the 44-ton diesels later on.

18:14 I will have to respectfully and politely disagree….the Rio Grande was its proper lettering! Great video and beautiful railroad! The history of the DRGW is fascinating, especially with how they were still using steam power for regular freight operations late into the 1960s after all the other class 1’s had long been dieselized. Of course the DRGW was a tale of two personalities, the standard gauge side was already dieselized and using big diesels like the SD45s, while the narrow gauge was still using steam with the K-28 and K-36. You could work for the same company and have two totally different aspects of railroading! Pretty neat in my book. It’s a shame they abandoned the chama to Durango section though. Thank you for including the old footage!

That is a good point! I should have said the numbering not the lettering.

Still some great cinematography and history! Definitely enjoyed the long valley shots with the echo of the whistle bouncing off. Just a overall fantastic and well done video. Glad to see they still have some dual gauge track in the yard, albeit it doesn’t appear to be connected to anything. There’s some neat old footage in Alamosa in the 60s with the Rio Grande K-36 and K-37 locomotives running through the yard with standard gauge Rio Grande high hood GP’s rolling through the yard alongside. One of the diesels had dual couplers so it could switch both standard and narrow gauge equipment.

Amazing work in this footage & upload! Sadly, the lunch is only a shadow of what it once was. First rode C&T in October of 2013, and the lunch was amazingly good (turkey/gravy) Rode it last week, and it is so bad you can't hardly eat it at all (wife agreed, so did family members who had ridden recently), and I mean ALL of it. Even the desserts. Next time I will stay outside and simply watch the engines & patrol switching. Much better use of my time.

Cumbres and toltec railroad engines of K-36 are 483 484 487 488 489 And durango and silverton had 480 481 482 and 486 that’s all K-36

IF YOU HAVE A STRONG DESIRE OR LOVE OF TRUTH, THIS IS MEANT FOR YOU... Jesus Christ said that He is the way, the truth and the life, and that NO ONE can come to Him unless the Father draws him. Salvation from sins and true transformation comes when your sins have been forgiven, if you feel led to do so, plead for God's mercy, in the name of Jesus Christ to save you from your sins, and wait for His response --Christ said that, 'if you ask you will receive'. Forgiveness and restoration with God comes through Christ's work and payment of sins upon a cross, --This forgiveness is for all those that will come to believe in Him. THE HOLY SPIRIT COMES AND GOES AS HE WILLS, and so it is with salvation, because it's an act that is carried out by the Spirit. --John 14:6 [ Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me." ] --Acts 4:12 [ "There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name(Jesus Christ) under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!” ] Knowing that the penalty for sin is death(eternal torment in a Lake of Fire); the Bible states, -- Rom 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.", and that we all have sinned, --Rom --3:23-- "for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God", God's method of salvation is a work of the Holy Spirit of God, purchased through the death of Jesus Christ, --John 3:8 "The wind blows where it wants to, and you hear its sound, but don’t know where it comes from and where it is going. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”, and as it is with the wind, the Spirit will come on the repentant sinner, when God draws that sinner to His Son Jesus Christ, --John 6:44 "No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him; and I will raise him up in the last day.". All a person can do is to plead for God's mercy, as in -- Luke 18:13 "And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.". God will cause his elect to know: That he is a sinner(-- Rom 3:23 "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." ), To believe in Jesus, that He paid for his sins, and that Jesus died and resurrected on the third day, To confess Jesus as Lord( or Master; all men serve a master, they are either slaves to sin or slaves to God ) --Rom 10:9, "that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.". --John 3:16 "FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD, THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, THAT WHOSOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM SHOULD NOT PERISH, BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE." If there is no noticeable change in the lifestyle of a person claiming to be a Christian, that person is more than likely unsaved(born of the Spirit)--"by their fruit you will know them". A true saint will come to love the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost, this person's love will be manifested in his obedience to God, and will no longer be a slave to sinful compulsions(i.e. living in sin), he will have a desire for, and a love of truth, have an appetite to learn more about God by primarily reading the word of God--the Holy Bible, will be heart-broken over his sin(having a humble and contrite heart), have love for his fellow believer, and hate his own fallen-nature and his life in this world.
