I thoroughly enjoyed the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel. Countless masterpieces. Had a private guide. Next time I will only visit the top ten masterpieces, hit the Sistine Chapel and move on. For me the highly overrated venue are the Spanish Steps and the Piazza Nuvona. Regards, P
Love this channel! Only found it a few days ago. Yes, the Tiber walks, I always wondered why the "nightclub barges' of the 50'sand 60's are fewer. Love the via Appia Antica. My 3 underappreciated areas; - 1. Ostia Antica, a 1-hour local train ride from Termini and a Pompeii in miniature; 2. Bramante's Tempietto in Trastevere, a little masterpiece with interesting artwork in niches as you go up the stairs to the Spanish Embassy, great views of Rome. 3. S Maria in Trastevere, the external walls covered in ancient Roman gravestones, the inscriptions still readable; and the pillars inside, no two the same as they were taken from various ancient buildings.
I would like to make a suggestion: the Uncatholic Cemetery. It's located at the side of the Piramide Cestia, at Porta San Paolo, it's the cemetery where Protestants and (also) non-believers were/are buried, there are beautiful graves (the original “Angel of Grief”) and (who are interested) also graves of famous people (Keats, Percy Shelley, Gregory Corso, Camilleri, Gramsci, Belinda Lee and many others).
@@nni9310 I don't understand, I wrote a wrong word? Assuming it wouldn't be a problem for me (my English is really bad), I'm not sure yours is the ONLY possible (correct) word. I explain why: the true Italian name (although it has different unofficial names) is "Cimitero Acattolico", however (again, since my English is not good), I looked up how to translate the word "acattolico", the translator gave me several words: uncatholic (that I wrote), un-catholic, una-catholic, non-catholic, acatholic (the same of the “official” name). So, that word is taken from an online Italian-English vocabulary (one of the most widely used). PS Just to understand: if you understood what cemetery it was, why to write the comment?
I will visit this cemetery , as I did come across it years ago when I worked in Rome .it is interesting and hopefully will not be crowd3d with many tourists
The problem is that the mass of tourists kills every beauty. Without tourists (or with few tourists: pure fantasy) Vatican Museums are a wonder of the Earth.
Did you really say that the Vatican Museum is overrated? I tell everyone that the more you put into researching your visit, the more you'll get out of it.
We are going in 2 weeks … I have an early morning tour of Vatican and expect to be done before noon. I have been trying to figure out what to do afterwards. I now think that biking on the River path would be perfect. I suggest a video on how to use/rent a bike for this experience. Hopefully I can figure it out before we leave!
He does this video on the app Ian way and suggests a bike rental spot close to circus Maximus. Ps we also be there in 2 weeks😊 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oElt7rCUY_Y.htmlsi=ePqI4Uyql-MNg1LP
Right at Circus Maximus there is a bike shop called Easy Bike Rentai Roma. Great shop and they can give you everything you need to bike the Tiber, Via Appia Antica. For a nice e-bike it is under €30 for 4 hours or about €40 for 24 hours. Check this vid out.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oElt7rCUY_Y.htmlsi=cv1_pwSogNfGAlle
You can. actually rent bikes at Circus Maximus and there is a bike path and trail from there to Via Appia Antica. On The Tiber I rode bikes all the way to Ostia (To the beach) along the River and paths and then we took the train with our bikes back to Rome. Much of Rome is not bike friendly but well noted!
I wholeheartedly agree with everything you have said ... especially the Tiber !!! I'm coming soon and I intend to spend hours walking along il fiume !!!
Trevi is ridiculous as far as crowds. You certainly can't enjoy it. There are nicer places to see. So I agree. I won't be waiting to see through a keyhole either. I love the Vatican museum is fabulous, but I agree, it's much too crowded. I would love to walk to the Tiber!! Will put on my list. I definitely want to do the historic road! Phenomenal history. Thanks much for the recommendations. 😊
The Trevi fountain is absolutely incredible! I haven’t seen it in 16 years so I haven’t experienced the crowds but social media is the cause of that… and the world has changed because of it! So glad I did most of my traveling before it.
@@RozierRoma it certainly was! My first trip was in 1979. That was when Europe was truly Europe! Toilets were holes in the ground even for fancy restaurants! Rooms were $12 a night and wine was practically free!
Saw the Keyhole last year. There were only two of us (private tour) there . Two vans came as we were leaving with maybe another 20 people. Totally overhyped. Would not waste my time going there again, especially with a line. How did it become so popular in only a few months?
Another great video, thank you! ☺️ I have been to the keyhole. I waited five minutes or less, no one was there, but I think because it was too hot. It was impossible to walk around. After that, we were at the park to relax and drink some water.
Thanks for the tips guys - I will definitely be visiting Giardino degli Aranci, the Tiber river & the Aqueduct Park when I go to Rome next. I will still visit the Trevi Fountain again, but will go at a time when it isn't crowded 👍👍
