This song gives me a weird sense of nostalgia and pride. It is just absolutley beatiful and gives me a really good feeling every time I hear it. Thank you so much for uploading 🇬🇧❤
This song was updated for the Sharpe series. It dates from the time of Malborough with Queen Anne referenced in the chorus. The tunes is many years older than that
This has always been my favourite, found a video of this version ages ago, but youpoob must of deleted it, cause I couldn't find it again. However I don't think I have ever heard it so crisp, don't know if you've edited anything on the audio side, but this doesn't sound as cracky as the other videos I've listened to of this song. Bravo me old chum the pictures as always tug my Imperial loving heart strings, to see those paintings of fine red lines, swaggering cavalry; I genuinely wish to be among them in that era, for my heart and soul lies within those century's of linear warfare. Though I think I am starting to sound a bit like Rimmer. xD y
Probably my favourite version too. I don't think I done anything special with the audio, but I may have turned it up a bit. I have a lot of nostalgia for this period also mate.
Is it not a valid question to ask if Scots and Irish had more to gain from fighting *with* Napoleon than against him? The French would have wanted to see both countries as prosperous, powerful and independent as possible - n'est pas?
@@jaimiehardy5652 Yes, but neither country was independent of London, those men acted as individuals. Many Highlanders returned from fighting for Britain in the Napoleonic Wars to find their families burnt out of their crofts during the infamous Clearances.
@@229andymon Not quite as individuals. However awful the clearances were (which they were) the Union stopped the wars that had raged for centuries between the 3 countries...so hard to tell how that would have played out. I would also add that the vast majority of men returning from the Napoleonic Wars returned to poverty irrespective of their national identity.
@@jaimiehardy5652 Yes, we’re speculating of course. I’d say though, the wars in question were (almost) exclusively defensive on the part of the Celtic nations, it’s not like they were random. I expect us Scots would have ended up in a union in any case. England never fancied the idea of independent Celtic nations and sooner or later would have come for us.
@@229andymon well I respectfully disagree with your characterisation of the wars between our nations as defensive on the part of the Scots particularly. However, consider Englands position, the most powerful aggresive nations in Europe, France and Spain to our south, both with powerful Navies and Armys and their Ally, Scotland to the North sharing a land border. To survive England had to fight both sides, hopefully one at a time but occasionally and sub-optimally all 3 at once! Thank You for your respectful tone and interesting perspectives. It's rare and appreciated.
