My son who started wrestling loves it and wants to get to the top! I want to help him and get involved by asking you two questions, since you have a lot of experience 1. what would be the most important things that make the difference between an average athlete and an outstanding one? 2. what should we focus on in the beginning, more to create a solid base? Thank you very much!
Hey great questions. Off the top of my head I would say being coachable, having a high attention to detail, being able to motivate yourself/ be disciplined and learning how to be creative. Creativity will help a lot if you are limited in resources and will help you enjoy the sport more. In the beginning it depends on the age of your son really. If he is really young then teaching them how to have fun and have a high degree of coordination is really important. If they are older and have that base then learning the basics like how to shoot (drop step) correctly, how to sprawl correctly, head hands hips defense and being able to stay disciplined in a stance for at least the length of a full match would be among the top things to have down. Hope that helps and I will try to address these as well in future videos . Thank you!
Hey good question. It really depends on your goals. For me I wanted one of the heaviest ones so that I could learn to throw around dead weight easier, but if you want to do a lot of reps in a shorter time then I would recommend getting a speed dummy or one at a lighter weight. Both will work power well but on the heavier side it will definitely force you to do technique more correctly and build strength. Hope this helps
