@@rehabhqofficial Thank you very much I think I wish could happen is a waste of workload of the therapist in the rehab hospital was lightened a bit so they could really push the patient because looking back being awesome myself they pushed me but never as far as I could’ve been and the thing I would convey to anyone who’s come home from the hospital and waiting for rehab is don’t be afraid to push yourself at home just know your limits and be safe about it and don’t let yourself make up excuses why you don’t do something I make sure I get a lot of steps every day that’s part of my rehab myself I’m careful about it becauseHumidity gets me more than they used to with all the drugs I’m on but I never give up and when I start to feel down about where I am in my recovery I think about 5 come. From when I was a Hoyer lift out of bed and having to have people dress me like I was an infant and to the point I do everything for myself to my own shopping a separate my pills out I’m thankful that I was the help I was given to get me to that point

In the initial stage, I made an awkward movement in one place, the brain remembered that and every time I would stiffen in that place, as if I were on ice. It helped a little to practice that movement at home, he would stiffen there every time, like a stage fright. It was only after meditation and a lot of visualization gave way. Now only light music helps me a lot as a basis for meditation. Thanks for explaining the problem.

Dear Dr. Tara, thank you so much for this 😍😍🙏🙏 I am battling with fear since day 1, mostly fear of falling. Standing free lead to a chain of fear and insecurity, then spastic shot in and then came the panic attack. So I did exactly what you say, plan well, avoid these situations, build safe environments and then learn in little steps. I even moved my home to a smaller place with "furniture pathways" for safe walking exercises. With time, I now do not need any more "furniture touch walking" and love to practice in supermarket isles 🤣🤣🤣🤣 better fall into cucumber glass rows than free falling 🤣🤣🤣 ... just joking ... but this works and gives back the feeling of freedom and security. Walking gets better and safer than with fear in free spaces 🙏🙏🙏 Have a great day in Florida!

Hi Nina! You are dropping more excellent tips this week. I love how you tackled your fear from multiple angles. Starting in the home and combining that adding "challenges" in the community! I don't know what cucumber glass rows are, but I definitely have a funny image in my head right now 😆 That being said, supermarkets are a great place to practice. You can always find an aisle that isn't crowded. And a shopping cart is a great "assistive device" 😊 I also love that you are showing others that it doesn't matter where you start, it is just about taking small steps each day. Chico and I are sending much love to Germany 😊😀🐶

Thank you for addressing this real element that comes along with neurologic/spinal injury and rehab. This is something I've dealt with for years after my spinal cord surgery was botched and I ended up paralyzed from the waist down for months. The rehab and journey to mobility definitely left mental scars and fear is one of them. I know from daily experience that meditation helps calm my fear and anxiety when I have to go out of my comfort zone. #Meditation 🧘🏾‍♀️

Dear Dr Tobias... THANK YOU for all of your wonderful videos. Many of them has helped me in my stroke recovery journey and continuing to help me. Right now fear is my biggest problem and it is holding me back. Im going to implement your techniques TODAY in the hopes of training myself to overcome fear. today is the 7th anniversary since my stroke. I was only 32 when I had my stroke. The therapists whom I have worked with r all good, but none of them have the insight that you do. Unfortunately, they didnt emphasis on many of the drills which you do in order to strengthen the foundation needed for walking. but I have basically reverted to the basics set out by u in your videos and even though it is tedious work, I soldiered through and already seeing the positive differences in muscles and movement and stability. I wish I had somebody like you as my therapist. I think you are great and have a wealth of knowledge which will only improve stroke victims lives to an exceptionally high degree. I hope you will go strong and only grow stronger in your work and life which will only help others. God bless you for taking the time to help others in a vulnerable situation after stroke. Lots of thanks and appreciation from sunny South Africa

Meditation does not have to be complicated. All that is required is the breath and a straight spine, whether lying done ,sitting, or walking. Start with 3 minutes, not 20. When your thoughts start racing , breathe and bring yourself back to your center. The idea here is to lengthen the spaces between the thoughts, not to obliterate the thoughts. The brains job is to think and you will never eliminate thoughts, but you can control the speed of them and how you react to them. ❤️

I sound like a broken record. I try walking in my safe room unaided I.e. no tripod( long shower room with grab handles on either side) & while I feel that my AFO prevents me from performing a good walk. I visualise my technique, I.e.heel strike, toe flexion. I do squats to promote dorsiflexion assisted with foot heel flat on ground at home. Might be drifting off subject matter but would Botox in gastroc muscle improve this . I attend pt weekly & he is working on dorsiflexion stretches.I am 8 years post stroke with left side hemiplegia. If you've had a stroke, which causes damage to the brain and you can restore functions through neuroplasticity and specific pt exercises (which you prescribe) does it also mean that people with HSP (the disease I have), where the long nerves deteriorate, can also restore fuctions through neuroplasticity and specific pt exercises? Really, really looking forward to your response. Thank you for what you do. You're a star!

My first year I didn't have much fear of anything( after waking up with half my body paralyzed basically dying.) what could scare me now). I did fall.... ALOT though. Never got hurt, other than my pride, through the grace of God, so I can't recommend being completely fearless. My problem is that when I visualize myself doing things I don't visualize my body having any kind of deficit. So when I go to do that activity I have to start strategizing in the moment and that often leads to disappointment that I'm not as far along as I thought I was and I hate having to compensate with my un-involved side because I know that's not helping me recover and is actually making things worse..

@@HarshPatel-xm7zb I was in medically induced comma to prevent my brain from furthermore damage. Seems like your dad is waking up and should be up soon. I'm not a doctor, but seems like hes on his way to waking up now.

Hi Glen! Yes, I didn't make a big announcement yet, but there is some rebranding currently going on. This channel is becoming more than just what I can offer in person. Stay tuned for more info on this!

Hi! Dr. Tobias. I have been watching your videos for 1/2 a year. I have not had a stroke. I have Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia (HSP) and here is my question.
