Overcoming fear of leaning a BIG BIKE with a retired COP

On my 1000 mile road trip I train with retired moto police officer, Jerry Palladino. Here I train on his 800 lb Harley Road King. I want to be able to handle any bike... BIG bikes: baggers, adventure bikes, and I know that with the right training, and most importantly, with practice after that, even a petite girl can handle those bikes.

Hi Jerry, I've watched many of your videos and follow you on your RU-vid channel. Very helpful for sure!! You make it look easy! Do you have any videos with the cam mounted on your helmet? Watching Doodle with the helmet cam gives me a very helpful visual for "SNAPPING' the head looking for the next cone. I'm up in Johns Creek, GA, I would like to come to your class in the near future. I only have 2000 miles under my belt so far. I need a few miles more before I do.

4) he’s a meanie 🤪 5) the skills aren’t hard to translate - it’s defeating the mental part by myself that’s hard - having an instructor cheering me on and telling me about how good his crash guards are great for getting rid of fear! I struggle with my BMW K1200LT with linked brakes I find the front end brakes wants to make the bike lie down for a nap. Add to that it has a dry clutch and slipping the clutch will wear it out before it’s time. At 68 years young now and 165lbs and having had quad heart bypass I’m beginning to feel it’s time for a lighter bike. But I love my LT.

Hey Doodle did you never realise that those Triumphs like yours have THE worst turning circle ever !! They are chassis designed around the daytona and that's a racing design. Racing bikes have awful turning circles and triumph never modified the bikes to accomodate the more upright riding position. My partner had the same bike as you and as an ex instructor myself ,I rode it and realised they just will NOT tight turn without doing the old shifting over on the seat and motorcross/offroad turn. It's a fact they get to a point on full lock and it just so happens it's the tipping point of no return so DON'T beat yourself up about not being able to turn on the Triumph. 👍😉

Doodle, I ride everyday. 8hrs in the saddle every work day. On my days off I have my own bike. Every time I ride, I start off with warm ups for 5 mins. Tight circles and figure 8's. Been doing this for years. It gets my bike warmed up, tyre pressure sensors activated to check if I need to add some air, and more importantly it warms me up. Slow speed manoeuvring is a perishable skill and one that if maintained contributes, more than most realise, to smooth, controlled, and safer riding at all speeds. Ride safe.

I rode from 1968 until 2017 when I had to quit riding because of cancer. In all those years, I only had one small accident and I attribute that to plain damn luck and practice, practice, practice.

Riding a motorcycle is easy, riding it well is a totally different thing, most young male riders would never go for"Training" let alone admit their riding was crap, & that's where the problem lies, people are dying because of "Ego", all young riders, & some older ones should be made to take a course like this, all my family can ride on the road or track & we have the "Silverware" & clean licenses to prove it even though we all ride like our arse's are on fire at every single opportunity. Good solid advice that an awful lot of riders should take.

I am not a fan of looking for the and at the green cones. No one is going to set up green cones on the road for you and fixating on the cones only sets you up for failure for the next turn. Your head needs to be constantly turning. Always practice, it can be done every ride you do. Every turn, every stop can be mentally evaluated for improvement. Use the training you have done to self evaluate and improve.

There is no such thing as too much bike for someone! 😉 I started on a v star 1100 never even ride a bike before and it just took some practice

As a non American I find it odd that any police force would keep bikes where the training course shows how poor they are for the job.

you should ride a bike you can handle and pick up if you dump it. i dont think you should ride a bike you cant handle. ride with in your limits dont try to show off to anyone or your viewers. i think you have good content with your rides but dont try to push this on brand new bikers either. ride with in your limits and bike size get use to how you ride as a person/biker

Once the bike is going forward, always good to help other women to ride. You do this well
