OVERCOMING INSECURITIES |  

*LONG POST* I have a gap tooth and I got it from my dad, whose mum has it too. I'm from Ghana and people big up the trait because some people think its attractive. I was really indifferent about and half the time growing up I forgot I had it. After O'level my family moved to Canada. I was 16 at the time and just got into high school and people would pass certain comments about my gap tooth. It was mad cos I had come from a place where my gap tooth didn't cause a ruckus. It got to the point where in Uni I walked into a dentist's office to get screened and prepped for braces. I got home and told my dad about my braces budget for the next two years. Now my dad is a quiet guy, doesn't talk much, gentle giant. But after telling him, my mum who was also in the room, pulled me aside a couple of days later. She told me that my dad was very sad that I wanted to change the part of me that really represents him and makes him so proud that I've got it too. I FELT HORRIBLE and quite frankly today I'm glad I felt that way. I went to bed thinking about the reasons I wanted to close my gap. Apart from realizing that I was only doing it for others to shut up, I also realized that it's not going to fix my gap tooth gene. So if I get married and have kids and they end up having a gap tooth too, what am I going to tell them? How am I going to tell my kids that they are beautiful and I love them, but force them to get braces because I don't think their gap tooth makes them unique. So that night, on my tear-drenched pillow, I decided to fall more in love with myself- gap tooth, dimples and all. Today I am so happy with my gap tooth because it is such a powerful conversation starter. And my boldness has just shot my public speaking confidence through the roof! I remember the first time I watched the wedding video I thought to myself how beautiful Cassandra was. It was her energy and her smile as well a her husbands that really captured my eye. I always forget other people get insecure too but religion/ GOD really helped me overcome a lot of my insecurities. continue the great work!

honestly babe!!!! the 1st time I seen you on you tube I was like "she is so beautiful". I think that you and your husband make a strong beautiful power couple. you sound like myself after I had kids but I had to pray to let me know I am a confident beautiful person. I also remember people used to say "I am pretty FOR A BLACK GIRL" ... yessss cas!! pretty for a black girl. I just had to look at them side ways 😒 cause I just know I'm pretty cause I AM pretty. lol But cas don't make any negative people come in your life and make you think your less of a person. social media takes alot of the blame. god wanted you to be on you tube because it might be self heeling and it's to give people like me(🙈lol) the ablity to say "i am beautiful". this video also shows me there's someone else out there that understands the insecurities we go through as young black women growing up. love u guys x x x

You literally spoke straight to me, everything you've been though I'm going through right now. I turn 18 in a couple more days and I realized just 6 days before my birthday that I don't love myself and I'm not truly confident with out my weave and makeup and I preach so hard about how important it is to be confident and that's not how I truly am. The video just meant so much to me because I'm to afraid to talk to my friends about because I'm afraid that they'll judge me. I'm seen as a "pretty" girl and my friends think I have it all but I don't. I'm going through a lot inside that I won't let come out. You made me realize that i need to express myself and not try so hard to be something that I'm not and something that I truly don't want to be.

I'm big on self love but today is just one of those day. I woke up in a blah mood, feeling overcritical of myself, there's a slight comfort in knowing that everyone experiences bouts of not liking themselves and self doubt however it's key to remember it all temporary

This is so painful to listen to. I had these same insecurities as a young girl, throughout my teenage years, young adulthood and sadly still to this day. Some of us never come out of it unfortunately. Thank you for sharing Cassandra .

I love the inspirational videos like this ESPECIALLY because of your candidness and encouragement. Thanks for sharing I know exactly what you faced. I went through years of insecurities and low self esteem but God definitely lifted me up and I worked on myself, my perception of me, and renewed my mind.

Everything you're saying is EVERYTHING I've been going through...I have been living for Christ and was finally getting all of what the enemy stole from me with confidence issues but then I got married last year (which has been hard) and started a new uni course and even though I've been praying through the battles, I've just completely lost my confidence. I remember when I was in boarding school I had friends that didn't want to be friends with other girls just because they weren't beautiful? However later on the person that they say was "not beautiful" ends up being more successful than them!! It's just so painful to see. you changed my life today u gave me the how to do it.. i was askin how?.. this z from a v confident person who thot i was strong enough n i use to loive myself n hv th hyest standards bt aftr goin thru a few things i knw i dont 2love myself n was settlin for less for the 1st tym in a long time n it made me keep on hatin myself.
