I had a dream two years ago where I was prayed over and immediately after, a popular secular song began to play. All of a sudden, I started humming along and it was as if the power of the prayer was being cancelled out. I kept stopping myself to meditate on the prayer and would lose focus and start humming to the song again. The dream showed me that like scripture or prayer, the music we meditate on will stick with our souls. If it is not aligned with God, it will compete and diminish any work that He is doing in us. The song was Beyonce's "Crazy In Love," which I hadn't even heard or thought about in years.

I once dreamt that I was listening to secular music and this dark figure beside me, which I believe was a demon, was dancing along to it. Each time I'd pause the music, it stopped dancing. Then, when I start the music back up, it started to dance along. I hope this vision blesses somebody because I'm on the journey to removing secular music from my life and I have done it "cold turkey" several times before and come right back! I'm gradually deleting artists from my playlist and downloading gospel music.

This did bless me. One thing I had to realize to is that music ushers in spirits, godly or ungodly depending on the music. I love music and currently getting secular music out of my life. We as children of God have to watch our ear gates. Thank you for sharing.

I looked at my playlist and deleted everything. I'm just going to throw out my whole phone and music out of my life 🤣 I deleted my social media because too many demons and I dont even watch TV. What you said is true. Last night I was singing Adele's songs. And, it played on repeat, i kid you not...I haven't slept yet because that song is disturbing my soul.

I use to struggle with this area up until last year. After seeking God for one month with no TV, no radio and just getting into His presence, He delivered me from listening to secular music and to no longer have the desire to be entertained by it. A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump. Those seeds are planted and will eventually grow in some fashion or form.

What's interesting is, when you remove secular music from your personal life, the music that others play around you don't affect you. Because your mind is focused on God and nothing else, even as you're working, eating, shopping, caring for your kids etc. Same for television, most times.

I can totally relate to this segment. I was on a binge, watching the episodes, "Being Mary Jane". I loved the episodes, but I noticed how my spirit would change after watching it. Being Mary Jane was not good for my spirit at all. Actually it aroused my flesh, and looking back the show does not edify living godly. The show is so worldly and promotes fleshly desires that turn around and effect you later. Because I am single, watching the episodes would make me feel like I needed to be in a relationship, when I am quite content in my single season. The show advocates for women to act desperately and to have a "free spirit" sexually. I remember clearly and plain as day the HOLY SPIRIT told me to turn it off. Of course I thought that was just me, but again I felt this tugging on my spirit to turn it off. I was a little annoyed because it's like, "ok LORD", I have nothing else, I have given up everything to include the majority of secular music and I have nothing else for entertainment. So the LORD directed me to go on RU-vid and find some wholesome entertainment, and I did. THE LORD led me to shows such as the Heather Lindsey Show, where I can be entertained and my spirit does not have to be tainted. GOD is amazing.Blessings All

Compromise in one area always seeps into all areas. I also think it's crazy how our culture worships entertainment. The most influential person in the world today is an entertainer. That just says something about our world.

Tryna tell people not to watch certain tv programmes. I've had to and am in the middle of pressing out of the mindset of not listening to ungodly music and TV shows and I feel I sense the present of God clearly when I pray, worship and fast. I know that secular music gives you a certain mindset whether you want it or not. I was listening to certain female rappers and all of a sudden I'm always angry and wanna start issues with people. You only see it when you stop and realise why you was battling with certain spirits !!

I do not listen to secular music at all..and when I mean secular I mean anything that is not glorifying God...I only listen to worship, and at times Christian rap when I am in the mood for something more up beat..I remember going to church and my pastor mentioned in order to get closer to God she threw all her music out the window..I was like "umm no that ain't gonna be me"" because right after church...👀🎶😂...but God was working on me..He had to change my heart first..out of the heart flows the issues of life..once my heart changed..I lost the DESIRE for the music that did not allow me to worship Him..you have to ask yourself..am I giving glory to God through this?.. I also gave away my TV about 5yrs ago..I have my phone and watch movies, etc but it's shows I choose to watch...I ask you to pray and ask God to show you your heart on this..remove pride and let Him work on you..it may be holding you back from getting closer to Him! God bless ❤️

Thank you so much for this episode. I've been secular music free for over a year now. the Holy Spirit has been convicting since I got born again (over 7 years back). I was really young then and had too many influences. It's important that you get to a point where you obey God because of revelation and not only knowledge. What's revealed to me now is that your eyes and ears are the direct gates into your spirit. What you see and hear goes directly into your spirit, whether you intended it to be so or not

To me, it depends on what KIND of secular music and TV. I'm working on this myself. If there's music that is too violent, and talks about drug use, gratuitous sex, etc., then I don't think it's a good idea to listen to. However, there are some that contains inspirational messages, talks about the human condition, and is empowering to women, Black people, etc. Same with TV. Sometimes TV can be tooooooo crazy with violence, but stuff like war movies and boxing/wrestling shouldn't be an issue if you haven't struggled with violence. If it offends you, cut it off. I stopped watching soap operas and reality shows because ***TOO MUCH DRAMA***!!!

I saw this video in my recommendations list and it took me a while to actually watch it. I've been recently convicted about a show that I was watching that was becoming more and more about sinful topics and my husband told me that I "act different" when I watch it. Of course, I was taken aback at first and even in denial but when I honestly thought about it, I knew he was right and I felt God's nudging. Such a great video and they're right; there's so many Christian options out there now that there's no excuse.

Music was a rough one for me. Starting from when I was a young girl, it had such a strong ministering hold on me and it was where I turned during the hard times in my life. Seeing the evil roots in music was devastating in the beginning because I couldn't believe how something that helped me so much, could come from such an ugly place. I'm not saying all music is bad, but I don't know what to trust anymore😔
@arimorr
@arimorr 7 лет назад
I definitely understand because I love music very much and it was a form of expression for me since I was a little girl. Music is very powerful because it can invoke certain emotions. You can literally feel connected to the lyrics of the song. I recently cut down my music consumption by a lot because I would listen constantly, and my I feel more aware of my thoughts. But praying and asking for the guidance and discernment from the Holy Spirit is something I will try to do more of when listening to music and it does not hurt to start there. You can do it! :)

That would be great but where I live they play secular music in the mall, to go get a smoothie, etc. I can't escape it no matter how hard I try. I listen to christian music all the time, but when I have to go out I face the consequences. I can't just storm down the people that control the sound and tell them to shut it off because I have a problem w/ it as awesome as that would be....and I also can't stay shut in my house forever. I think in this day and age you're going to have to be in a bubble to escape those seeds being planted. It's just SO difficult.

Alexis Salcido I was thinking that initially but I've been recently convicted about secular shows/music and am beginning to lose a desire for those things that are not of Him. So now if I'm out, I often listen to my worship music from my phone with my earphones. So that's something you could try (:

i honestly opened up my RU-vid here at here to listen to an audio book my coworkers recommended called "Stranded with a Billionare" and this video popped up along with another one from Heather Lindsey. This is something i feel strongly convicted of. I am intentional about guarding my heart and mind but at work i listen to music all day long and i kind of got burned out with the same songs, i checked out christian rap and i do enjoy it. but i wanted to try something a little different today and listen to a story, so i got the audio book idea from my coworker. the Holy Spirit is protecting me from my flesh but showing me this video. Lord knows what would have happened if i started listening to stories about romance and drama. Thank you Heather for having this channel! it is truly making a difference!

I understand that it may make you a little uneasy. I recently had to ask my best friend of 15+ years to chill with the cursing around me. And when I first wanted to tell her, I was nervous. Then I noticed she cursed....A LOT! And I had slipped a few times after I stopped because she cursed so much around me. When I asked her to stop, she was understandable and supportive....btw, she's an Atheist. So if your friends don't understand, they aren't your friends.

ForeverMel94 Your walk with Christ is between you and Christ, not your friends. I totally get it & I sympathize with you. Ask God for wisdom on how to have a conversation w/ your friends. If they are truly your friends, then they will have no choice but to respect your decision & relationship with Jesus. It is not easy, however, God will walk you through this season in your life. He has your back! Praying for you! God bless! With love, Beuv 💓

In agree that music is POWERFUL but it's up to you to take it that seriouslly or not. If you have a weak spirit, than you shouldn't listen to mainstream and maybe focus and work on that. In the other hand, it depens on who you're listening to. I like Fantasia and she made a lot of "He broke my heart" songs but she still worships God. It's really up to you and the artist that has a message.

Pray about what is right for you. God is personal. I only listened to music that glorified God for a time, now I incorporate "inspirational" music that is about good things in life. Be mindful that some songs about good things glorify us, how we are all we need in life, rather than dependence on Christ. I encourage you to read Phil. 4:8 (Whatever is true, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely) when thinking about refining your music, tv shoes etc.

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode! Something similar happened to me a few months ago, but it began way before that. I slowly became sensitive to reality shows. Like, they disgusted me. The way people behave themselves just for a check just became disgraceful. I stopped watching. Then were the scripted shows, again, annoyed me with the normalization of overt sin. I stopped watching those. And the last thing that I realized was affecting me was my favorite morning show. I saw that after listening to them every morning, I would be annoyed throughout the day for no reason. I became a complainer, and that is EXTREMELY uncharacteristic. One day one of the hosts said something about what he assumed the bible said and how Jesus would feel about something and it was COMPLETELY against the word of God. I stopped listening that day and that was some months ago. Since then, I've had joy and just been in a much more positive mood. I now listen to a Christian morning show while I'm getting ready for work.

I really enjoyed this episode! However I realized that every person is different when it comes to what music and TV to listen and watch. You are going to hear and even enjoy secular music from time to time. I don't exactly believe its sinful. I am a huge fan of Rap music. My father and I bond over 90s Rap. Rap artists back in the 90s talked about Black issues and my dad encouraged me to listen. Now I listen to Drake, J. Cole and some 90s rap and I make sure I listen to the clean version of the songs. I think you have to have discernment with secular music. The same with TV I believe you just have to be intentional about what you watch even with Secular Shows.

Hi Angelica, while everyone is different in how they receive listening and watching secular music...the enemy uses the same tactics to gain access to you. While saying one artists is all bad or good, the most important point is that the SPIRIT behind the music and show. If a person is not saved and believe in Jesus Christ, the Bible is very clear...they are not of Him and filled with darkness, even though they could be nice. Don't be tricked into believing that the enemy won't use one the most powerful expressions of feeling to permeate in your thoughts and ultimately in your life. Be blessed sis!

Angelica Shipps I agree! We have to guard our hearts period. Because we have all heard of scandals within the community of believers as well. Just because the individual says they're a believer doesn't mean that when they make music, the spirit behind it is of God. So we have to be mindful with all genres... not just secular.

COMPLETELY agree with guarding our hearts by being careful with what we watch and listen to, but why are today's Believers so against any consumption of alcohol?? Jesus drank wine and He was perfect, therefore what is wrong with Believers drinking on occasion?

Don’t be drunk with wine, which will ruin your life, but be filled with the Spirit. Ephesians 5:18 its okay to consume it but not get drunk over it

Kyra Passion yes, I completely agree that drunkenness is absolutely wrong, but Luke 7:33-44 shows that Jesus makes a contrast between himself drinking and John the Baptist not drinking. Also 1 Timothy 5:23, Paul advises Timothy to drink a little wine for health's sake. I just don't get where or how believers began to condemn wine when clearly out is used all throughout the Bible, except of course in the case of the nazarite. And the nazarite was forbidden to take ANYTHING from the vine, including grape juice, grapes, and raisins.
