My best friends sister had this. She started at 12 yrs too, and was dead by 16. It's one of the scariest things to watch. And her family didn't understand the severity of her condition. She died of respiratory failure in her bed. The parents didn't find her until after work the next day. Her dad had a heart attack after. The mom died a year later. She started drinking and drank herself to death. It's a devastating disease.

That is a devastating story and a I am so sorry for your loss of your best friend. I know what it’s like to lose a best friend and to not receive any comforting words, even when they are a friend that is as close to you as a sibling, but then going through that loss and feeling like that pain hasn’t truly been acknowledged by anybody else. So truly am sorry for your loss and I hope you are doing okay. 💓💓💓✌🏼💓💓💓

Can you guys do more of these sorts of episodes, like mental health type stuff. I dunno if it's just me but all the sexual topics they all just kinda become repetitive after awhile and like okay, we're gonna talk about sex, but these ones are like very impactful and much more interesting to me. Like I still remember the OCD episode you did, it just gives us so much insight into each others lives and allows us to better empathize with what people are going through. I'd love an episode on binge eating, but just more of these!

I’ve been suffering with anorexia for a very long time. When she said it takes over your mind it truly does. How you just want to die, you think everyone is against you and just feeling alone. I know that feeling. This video helped remind me that I’m not alone. If anyone else is dealing with this as well, you are loved.

I was listening to this episode while in the shower and while listening to this episode I almost passed out because I hadn't eaten enough that day (combined with the steam). I hope this episode is a wake up call for others. Thank you for yet another great episode

Recovery is one of the hardest things to go through, from surviving anorexia to drugs to suicide attempt(s). For me was suicide...it's not an easy journey for sure but, I applaud you woman! Learning ro walk again, something so simple to us humans but damn, you're such a warrior. 👏🏽👏🏽💪🏽 Having a strong support system does wonders to recovery, to get better emotionally, physically, mentally or even spiritually. You are TRULY an inspiration love. Much love from Brazil. ♡

Also a little reminder that you don't have to be underweight and certainly not this extreme, or have been hospitalised to have anorexia and to be worthy of help. I like the fact that you did this interview but I do think it is important to mention because many people still think of the image this woman drew when they think of anorexia but it's only a very small amount that gets to this level. Nonetheless this was a beautiful and gripping story and I think Greg and Joe did a great job being compassionate as always

This was so insightful. Thank you so much to OPL and this woman. As she said, a lot of people have a misconception that anorexia is looking in the mirror and wanting to be slimmer, and then becoming disorderly. I didn't know that it could be insideous in the way that it slips in. Thank you for shedding light on this, I'm sure it will help a lot of listeners understand themselves and others❤️

Hey guys, just so you know it can be extremely triggering for someone who is affected by an ed to hear specific numbers about weight and calories etc. Anorexia is EXTREMELY compedetive by nature and a lot of people find their so called "goal weight" and calorie restrictions by looking at examples of currently or formerly very sick other anorexic people. A lot of people with eds watch content about anorexia to self-trigger, and numbers are a big part of that trigger. Its your show and you do as you please, but from someone whos been there- it could help a lot of people by just censoring out the specific numbers. To prevent people from self triggering. Its every persons responsibility ofcourse, but i just want you guys to know how it can affect people because i know its not your intentions to hurt anyone! 💜

My cousin suffered from Anorexia all throughout her teens and into her 20's..I can remember listening to my aunt telling my mom that my cousin thought that the extra body hair was her body's way of protecting her from getting cold..She was so far gone at one point that she would rub conditioner on her stomach hair trying to make it healthier and thicker..She would even lay in her bed at night and comb it thinking that it was beautiful and that her body was helping her not have to gain weight in order to stay warm..There was all kinds of crazy behavior and rituals that she would have to perform all throughout the day it was truly sad to watch..After years of suffering from this disease she has finally overcame the demons and she looks amazing ..Thank you for spotlighting this horrible disease..

Fyi Beat the eating disorder charity have media guidelines on reporting or talking about eating disorders ans mentioning numbers or showing low weight images can be very harmful to people like me who have an eating disorder. An eating disorder can impact people at any weight. People can die at any weight. So focusing on low weight even in passing with a number can make people think you need to be a certain weight to have an eating disorder

Better yet, censor the numbers, as suggested in an earlier comment. People will literally take these kinds of numbers as their goal. It sounds unbelievable but it's common.
@emmajade3382

why do they need to have a trigger warning if the content matter is in the title? /g
@emibw
@emibw 3 года назад
@@emmajade3382 Good question. It's because this interview can be very triggering for some, particularly because of the numbers mentioned. Not all eating disorder content is triggering (for example, talking about the unpleasant health consequences like osteoporosis should hardly trigger anyone), so the title alone doesn't give it away.

Even though this episode was uploaded a year ago, I hope that you guys get this anyway. I LOVE that you guy covered this topic. Eating disorders are co complicated and messy, that the stigma surrounding them doesn't even scratch the surface (and just misses it entirely lmao). But when talking about bodies, especially in the context of ED, please don't refer to/ask for numbers. Any concrete numbers, especially regarding calories, body height, and body weight. Simply, it's just triggering. I know others can empathize with me, I used to purposely trigger myself with the number-comparison game to motivate myself to lose more weight. Just for the future :)

I did not realize where my eating issues came from until about 2 weeks ago where my childhood best friend would ALWAYS talk about being skinny and her being smaller than me. like mother like daughter. Not only can toxic parents ruin their child’s mental health but their friends as well. that girl triggered a downward spiral of how I handled all relationships with people moving foward until i was 16 and ended up bakeracted. I have come a long way since then and worked through a lot of that within myself. Maybe that’s why I am having these realizations because I have been working towards them myself

Can i have anorexia if i am obese? I have started a diet where i fast and i never eat anything for days. I realized I don’t need food cause my body could survive with no food for many days. Ever since i have stopped craving food, liking food, in fact i found food disgusting and i got disgusted by seeing it or seeing others crave and eat it. I feel full all the time and i developed habits where i would chew my food and spit it when my fam forces me to eat just so i could say look I finished my plate... I can’t eat in public no more i feel shy if someone saw me EAT. However after my long fasts i end up feeling like i need to eat alot and uncontrollably but ive been holding back and walking and exercising to avoid weight gain. I just don’t understand if my relationship with food is what everyone goes through or if i have a problem which could be smth like anorexia with binging or some eating problem that affects fatties? Or am i just a fat person who feels sad over that so i take desperate measures to lose that weigh. At this point idk.

You’re definitely not alone I went through the same exact thing. I used to love food and was obese but I just realized how I didn’t “need” to eat. I had very similar habits as well I’m not sure if it’s an ED like you said I will say for me it’s gotten better. I’ve found some comfort foods (for me it’s broccoli and chicken) because food disgusts me I only eat twice a day. I try not to pay attention to calories but I eat enough I started loosing weight in a healthy way and it’s so much better I would say it doesn’t sound healthy at all and I would recommend talking to someone if I were you Even a stranger I hope u get better

This does sound like disordered eating to me and this does sound like something that should be discussed with a professional before it gets out of control. Anorexia requires low weight for diagnosis,but there are other EDs that do not have weight requirements for diagnosis and a good medical/mental health professional should at least refer you to someone that can help in these situations. I hope you're ok 💜
