After the full-scale invasion began, Jonathan Fink launched a RU-vid channel to provide in-depth, hour-long interviews with some of the most well-known experts on Ukraine, Russia, and the war so that listeners would have a deeper appreciation for the struggle that Ukraine is facing.
Despite alleged waning interest in Ukraine, the channel that bills itself as being "about propaganda, digital disinformation, politics, corruption, hybrid warfare, weaponized conspiracy theories, social echo chambers and digital dystopias," has grown from 8,000 followers by Christmas 2022 to over 80,000 today.
Fink's thoughtful, serious discussions with guests, have made strong impressions on audiences that tune in to learn not just "the facts on the ground in Ukraine," but to have subject matter experts explain aspects of the war that are often overlooked by the public.
During this interview, Fink explains what drives him, his programming, and what he sees as the largest obstacles facing Ukraine today.
Jonathan Fink is host of Silicon Curtain, a RU-vid channel and podcast. He creates content daily, in support of Ukraine, and has become one of the most prominent voices in the RU-vid community condemning Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine since February 2022. The channel now features one of the largest collections of Ukrainian experts in English online, a conscious effort to elevate Ukrainian voices, because they understand better than anyone the nature of Russia’s mindset and strategy and how to counter aggressive propaganda and other hybrid and physical threats.

Jonathan Fink is great and a wonderful source of people involved in the war 👍🏼 I should probably also mention the 'Other Jonathan' i.e. Jonathan Pearce of ATP Geopolitics who does really insightful(and lengthy!) in-depth daily updates on Ukraine, he's been interviewed on Silicon Curtain and vice versa. They're well worth a sub both of them 😁

Russian style propaganda falls into roughly three categories: 1. Building support for Russia 2a. Eroding legitimacy of Russian targets (eg Ukraine) to isolate them and justify aggression 2b. Eroding the capacity of allied nations to provide reliable, relevant, consistent and timely support to defend against Russian aggression. At this point, we can already see that "support for Russia" alone is not a good indicator of the effectiveness or pervasiveness of Russian disinformation campaigns, as it only makes up a portion of those campaigns. However, these three categories are not evenly applied across the geopolitical spectrum, which is part of Russia "knowing its audience." Russia doesn't try very hard to create sympathy for it in the West, but like China promotes narratives of sympathy, partnership, etc amongst the Global South exploiting that historical (and earned) rift between the Global South and the West. Eg hence its narrative of "liberating" (sic) Ukraine from (Western) Nazis (sic). Conversely, in the West Russia still does try to erode Ukraine's legitimacy as a recipient of support from allies, and it directly attempts to undermine the effectiveness of allied support by exploiting emotionally charged political rifts in society and promoting acrimony and conflict. Because of this, people who fall prey to Russian disinformation in the West may very well think poorly of Russia itself even as they act in ways that help accomplish Russian geopolitical goals.

it is taken as granted by russia that western support for russia will always be limited and non-mainstream, it works better to inculcate disruptions within strong western nations and between them, making it easier for russia in the short term.

yes, especially the fact that vs iron curtain, the new russian curtain was created by them over the past decade and half thru online activities including hacking, and infowarfare via the social media formats. Thus, silicon, ie the basis for the chips that make that possible. Ru's only truly potent tools have orginated thru online formats & they have hundreds of K's of ppl involved in it, ie cyberwarfare.

As a German, I am ashamed of the federal government's behavior regarding the Taurus debate. In particular, the influence of many high-ranking SPD members such as Ralf Stegner, Rolf Mützenich and Manuela Schwesig, who either still adhere to Brand's tradition of Eastern politics and an outdated image of Russia, or simply pursue economic interests with Russia. Just as the Russians made a misjudgment of winning the war in three days, the West fatally underestimated Russia's influence on media and politics.

See, I studied Russia from Peter the Great to present day as my retirement project. I was born the year NATO was born the year NATO was born n lived in the US all of the Cold War and lived near a missile base during the Cuban Missile Crisis. So Russia was always my enemy so after the Cold War, I never embraced Ru😢like many did so I delved into their history to try and understand my enemy. So I never believed Russia had changed. As a history lover I learned early on that you need to understand your enemy maybe more than they understand themselves!😊

You studied russia and cant tell the difference between now and the soviet union? What did you study the western propaganda handbook? This nonsense is exactly what led to my own study of russia and my findings were pretty much polar opposite of your own analysis. They arent saints and still have a lot of problems but nothing even close to what you folks are selling. Not even in the same ballpark even...

I don't think it's the public's interest that is waning. I think it's the MEDIA'S interest that is waning, and that is leaving the impression that public boredom and disinterest with the war in Ukraine has set in. The media is the main culprit.

Germany is mostly cynical .In fact they just have a different perspective about how this war should end ,and this perspective is not to far from what Russia has. We just have to look at the relation between these two countries in the last 35 years. USA has to be aware why countries that are in Nato and EU have a very close friendly visible relations with Russia in today circumstance and invisible support of Germany about it to keep the door open to Russia.

I am hoping that you can possibly ask your guests for their opinion on the following subjects- 1) Is it possible that "Russia" and "Putin" are not synonymous and interchangeable? 2) Is it very, very probable that Lavrov and many other Russians in high positions are perfectly decent people, highly competent, very well read, very humane, but giving off POW vibes we are not picking up on. It's entirely possible that bad actors have a gun, or energy weapons, or lasers directed at them and their kids and their bank accounts, right? And there's always kompromat and fake sex tapes, followed by fake witnesses. 3) How likely is it that this infection of atrocious behavior is now affecting the Indian government as well? 4) Do you have friends in the FDA, military, DARPA, CIA. FBI, Google, Tesla....that you might be able to talk to about questions 1, 2, and 3?
