I recently lost a son to a drug overdose and resultant anoxic brain injury. I'm finding it both painful but also enlightening to learn through this video that rescue breathing could have saved his life. Unfortunately for my boy he overdosed in a place where he either wasn't found by anyone or those who found him didn't care or just didn't know what to do. By the time paramedics had arrived and administered Narcan his brain had been w/o oxygen for too long. He died in the hospital just days later. Since he had previously overdosed several times before, this video helped me understand why he likely couldn't stop relapsing even though it seemed he had turned a corner before through rehab and incarceration. Thank you for producing this information and for the kind hearted people who are working on the front lines with addicts. Their lives matter and you are making a difference.

More people working in Addictions Counseling need to educated on this - because we aren't. And these brain injuries are affecting a significant portion of our patients in long term treatment and/or medication management, we cannot help the person if we don't understand the brain that we are working with

In cases of severe brain injury is it really smart to reanimate the patient,both in terms of cost to society and the family but most importantly the patient who must live life in such a reduced state.

@@Cheese44456 what are your symptoms? It’s hard for me to tell bc I have inner ear dizziness already and for over a week I have have had cognitive issues like rereading the same sentence over again, foggy brain, feeling disconnected almost, weakness, restlessness etc..I’m so scared. But since I live with 24/7 dizziness I can’t tell how extreme it is. I just know it’s different from my normal dizziness. It hasn’t gotten any better or worse. Can drs even help with these symptoms so late after? Are you feeling better?

Now do a report on the intractable chronic pain patients who have been lumped in with the addicts and now have no pain control and no quality of life. People who previously were able to work, sleep, shower, socialize and have some quality of life, were not just cutoff, but finding a doctor who will treat you is practically impossible!
@samsara-summermooncomehome5881
@samsara-summermooncomehome5881 3 года назад
Yes, you are right and something needs to be done about this issue. Chronic pain is very real and it's bad enough living with it, and then you have to fight just to get some relief. I have had a dramatic drop in pain meds, and quality of life is drastically reduced. I feel like my life is over at 50yrs old. My family has basically fell apart due to my severe depression. I just want to give up.

So true! Nearly 1/3 of my body is titanium. from my right foot, ankle, shin, knee. hip, 14 vertabrae & right jaw. My asshole dr fights me every month for 30 5=325 oxycodone. I hope that dr gets hurt some day (God forgive me), so he can feel the pain I deal with every freakin day

I would rather live with pain than be on opiates again that’s why I quit them all and then tapered from methadone then suboxone. Pain was so exaggerated on opiates ironically.

I find this video interesting, not only to help with my own understanding of those addicted to drugs, where I try to stay close to lines of patience and understanding without being too judgmental with those suffering from substance abuse, my low level of tolerance and lack of patience mostly resides with those who hold themselves out as professionals who are clearly lacking in knowledge and empathy for others. It is difficult to watch your own children suffer from substance abuse. It is hard accepting where this country stands, in recognizing that there is no real help out there, people in communities idlely standby and allow things to transpire, manifest into situations that involve death. I strongly believe if the government reversed their robe and gave more finding to communities with proven track records shown in low occurrences in various forms of death and related crimes instead of funding based on increased numbering, positive changes who occur rapidly. The government funding model is all wrong.

I'm in the state of my life where I can't tell if I'm having trouble because of a possible brain damage from companies lying about their products, or if life is just THAT stressful and I'm reaching my limit in a way that I can't control. I keep thinking a pure oxygen (medical grade) breathing treatment can help teach my brain to accept more oxygen and therefore think better. When you smoke, yoy may be teaching your brain bad habits like "hey you don't need this much oxygen" when you do. So an oxygen treatment sounds like therapy for the brain where you tell it "Hey. You DO need oxygen.".

These "experts " are not experts ! It's just "cognitive dissonance." No. No it's called addiction .I understand EMT's are not trained on addiction so they don't know what they're talking about , why don't you ask somebody in recovery how hard it is instead of asking the EMT's who reluctantly respond to every overdose call and and are dismissive. 0 compassion. That lady clearly isn't there to help those who are struggling she's there to get a paycheck.
